Sorting Roms into Genres

I prefer having roms sorted by genre. That way I can think ‘shooter’ rather than ‘Truxton.’ I can easily filter out sports games so I don’t have to scroll past NFL 1947 - 1996. It also makes it easier to discover new games I haven’t played before.

I couldn’t find any automated tools to do this. So I put some together. These are small bat files that work with extracted GoodTools romsets. Put them in your rom directory and run them.

NES - http://srktt.com/files/nesgenre.bat
SNES - http://srktt.com/files/snesgenre.bat
Genesis - http://srktt.com/files/gengenre.bat
Master System - http://srktt.com/files/smsgenre.bat
PC Engine - http://srktt.com/files/pcegenre.bat

Have you considered using a manager like clrmamepro? Someone did on another forum I use that to easily turn rom collections into sets for flashcarts

That will work for MAME.

It works for Any romset actually - no-intro and such have DAT files prepared for it, for their various collections.

Sorry, I mean to give you genre. The No-Intro NES data files have entries that look like this:

game (
name "Contra (USA)"
description "Contra (USA)"
rom ( name “Contra (USA).nes” size 131072 crc F6035030 md5 5A5C2F4F1CAFB1F55A8DC0D5AD4550E5 sha1 979494E7869AC7AB4815FDBD1DC99F893F713FBF )
)

You can set it up to do folders - He has ones set up for each letter, bad dumps, lightgun (on nes), etc.

I apologize for bringing up this topic, but the .bat to organize the Sega Genesis romset is no longer available for download. Could you send it back?
Thank you very much.

Please don’t bump 4 year old threads asking to reup old downloads.
There a number of reasons for this, often it’s because the project could be dead or abandoned.

Also I can’t go though the specifics HERE (in SRK) with Roms because of reasons, but Roms changed ALOT in the last 4 years.

OP haven’t been active on the forums in like 5 months.

Kay, thanks.

Okay, sorry for the inconvenience.
