I thought you would work in a counter hit change of direction to level 2 focus crumple in there somewhere… he’s one of the only characters who can combo into a crumple like that. Overall though, I’m impressed with what you’ve got here. I dn’t think you would do an Abel vid at all because I found him to be pretty limited flashy combo-wise
Yeah that is a cool combo but the problem is Abel can’t do anything afterwards beyond what we’ve already seen in a couple combovids. He’d be left with half meter, and then what? I’d probably just end up repeating something i’d already done. Some people called the video repetitive as it is, probably because they were concentrating on the CoD FADCs too much, but it would only make the problem worse.
This was a fun video to make though, especially once it started coming together. Except for the last combo. That one was annoying.
Also i did this setup against Rose where Abel trades HP Falling Sky with Rose’s j.LK, then trades EX Falling Sky with LP Soul Spark. But then nothing else works. Another EX Falling Sky whiffs right through her. And ultra looks too slow by like two frames. But even if it wasn’t, i doubt it would connect. Super has no juggle potential so obviously that’s useless, not to mention impossible because of meter resitrictions. And EX Wheel Kick is even slower than ultra.
Ah well, it would’ve been cool to do this whole combo as time expired so that it would do zero total damage.
It’s been nearly three months since Classic Combo Challenge 01: Ryu was posted and it seems unlikely that we’ll see any more responses anytime soon. A lot of people have been asking for a solution video, so i finally decided to compile one.
Classic Combo Challenge 01 Solutions
Everything should be explained in that post but if anything’s unclear, feel free to ask for a better explanation.
I’m a bit unfamiliar with how the old games worked (I played them, but i was about 7 :P) Surprises me that even those had some very technical combos, seems deep hitting attacks also had a considerably better use.
Where the combos harder than they look in those games?
Yeah there’s definitely some crazy stuff in those games. SF4 is relatively basic compared to games like SFA3 and CvS2. Going all the way back to SF2, the obstacles are way different cuz there’s no superjump or dash or canceling into supers or even juggles to the extent they exist nowadays.
But the oldschool games were built solid, so there’s a lot of challenges to overcome. You can’t simply break ST the way people have broken most of the other games of that era. Also execution is a huge challenge. If you play SF4 a lot and then go back to SFA2, you’ll be surprised at how much sharper you have to play. If you get in a bad spot, it takes you a while to get out of it because you can’t just reversal uppercut FADC for a get out of jail free card. Even getting the reversal is a challenge.
But it’s not like you have to be scared of those games. Just pick one you like, dig in, do a little research, and you’ll come up with something cool.

To be honest i haven’t thought about what i’m gonna do for SSF4 at all. I kinda want to make one early video just to see what i can find but other than that i might not do anything at all.
And i almost forgot to mention i found this really strange thing against Gouken. He can’t be passively pushed at all while he’s charging his fireball. Like walking forward, dashing into him, whatever - he doesn’t budge. Just looks weird.

Maj, it’s all perfect, just one little thing you could have fit into this, his Counter absorb cancelled into his Ultra.
Not many people seem to know that it’s possible.

One thing however: Does anyone know whether cornered back-throw > roundhouse Tatsu FADC (under) j.MP > Ultra works without some ‘assistance’?
Can’t seem to get the Ultra out in time…
It’s useless in combos though. The only way it would provide a functional benefit is you could cancel a normal move into counter then armor cancel into ultra so it looks like you’re doing c.HP xx ultra. But that’s impossible because you can only do armor cancel kara from neutral.
So basically in the combo instead of Rose i could be doing HP fireball, counter armor cancel ultra which is a more sparkly version of HP fireball, ultra.
Damn, that last Gouken combo video was amazing. Keep up the good vids.
