Personally I don’t have a problem with the length of the game since I do understand that it’s a downloadable title. I’m not expecting retail length (which honestly… isn’t that much longer if you consider the fact that ‘blockbuster’ titles tend to hang around the 10 hour mark in single player for $60 nowadays if not less). I’m also not saying that the game is bad either and I made sure to clarify that at the end. If you’re one of those people who has been complaining about Sonic having too many friends and this that and the other then this game was made for you. I’m also not saying don’t ever buy it either…I just think the price is a tad bit much considering the flaws and what I’ve played. I mean by all means if you want to spend the 15 bucks and formulate your own opinion then feel free to do so…
Edit:
The game is still enjoyable…otherwise I probably wouldn’t be playing through the levels trying to get the last emerald.
I honestly like Sonic 4. It has issues but it’s the best Sonic game to come out since Rush imo. That’s not saying a lot but 15 bucks is a little too pricey.
I pretty much agree with Sonichuman on all points. However it needs to be understood that the OG games were purely about the speed and some platforming to break it up. The Dimps games however treat Sonic like a perpetual motion machine. For some reason they think he always needs to be on the move going as fast as he can and we’ll constantly manipulate that factor as much as we need to. And when it comes to platforming it’s all abuse of the homing dash as gimmick and not a gameplay element. Hopefully Episode 2 embraces the old school games a bit more but I do welcome the new school stuff if it meshes correctly. I do suggest waiting for it to go on sale unless you have points to burn and you need a Sonic fix.
And I figured I’d pimp my self out a bit and link up my Splash Hill run. I love the Act 3 music. Has that old school feel. And Mad Gear Zone 1 too.
Just finished Sonic 4.
I must say it’s not bad, but I have a a couple of notes.
They need to add some speed traction when you land on the ground and hold backwards. It allows you to stop completely, and in platformers you can’t have that kind of physic.
For the most part levels are fairly easy. Hopefully the difficulty jumps in future episodes.
The combination of Sonic 1 and 2 special stages is nice, but I will admit certain stages are a pain in the ass.
1200 MS POINTS! IDK how many episodes there will be, but they need to make a full package for a discount. Otherwise buying more than 3 of these at $15 will slowly get ridiculous. But, Sega needs their money, and they deserve it after this.
It’s not worth $15 IMHO, but a good game to take you off everything else nonetheless. I APPROVE!
I don’t dislike it as much as I thought I would, as the weird physics definitely can be compensated for… but I shouldn’t fucking have to, and I’m not paying $15 unless they fix the physics with a patch or something.
I have nothing else to add about the physics or Sonic’s handling that hasn’t been said. A shame.
Dr. B ignores physics as he runs along the ozone layer.
Special stages aren’t bad and can be pretty challenging ( I still haven’t got the 7th emerald yet…That section with the pinball bumpers all in the middle is dumb. I try doing that room last and EVERYTIME…as soon as I get enough rings I get bounced into the red circles.) but like I said before I just would have prefered to actually control sonic and not the stage that’s why it went under nitpick.
i haven’t ended sonic 4 yet. but i’m at egg station with my 4th emerald. so far, i think this game is ok. but the sonic advance 2-3, sonic 2, sonic 3+knuckles and all the ds rush games EASILIY rape this game. like am i the only guy who think sonic run slow as a slug? and the startup till he start running is damn near laughable. and this game is nothing but remixed stages and bosses, and on top of that, this game is only 4 zones long. that isn’t really worth 15$ imho. especially if you add another 15$ to your current 15$ you can just get sonic mega genesis collection.
Just played the demo. For a game that claims to go back to its roots, it definitely feels different from all the other Sonics. Could be good or bad depending on where you stand.
I don’t know why it takes longer for Sonic to go full speed, but what I dislike most is how Sonic doesn’t remain in spin dash when flying up into the air.
