Something I was reading in Tekken Zaibatsu

T5 is just crap but I’m interested in the T5.1 changes especially the oki changes. I’m sure evo is putting T5 and not 5.1 Right now, I think snb fest is worse.

I don’t think a ‘Mishima fest’ will happen if Evo uses 5.1. I do however think a SNB fest is pretty much guaranteed for 5.0.

Doesn’t matter anyway, it’s too soon for 5.1 to be at Evo, especially since there isn’t any demand from the Tekken community to play 5.1 at Evo.

I think Yun/Chun Li/Ken fest in 3s is worse.

Well, if you exclude T4 with Jin then yes, I’d rather prefer the Mishima fest, because #1, imo they are harder to utilize than SBN, I know that the fluidity of TTT to T5 is greatly different, thus Mishima’s would be easier to use in T5, however, they are still more difficult to play at a higher lvl than say SBN, which have moves that are extremely abusable, even for intermediate players and scrub players.

As for 5.1 changes being crap, seriously, many of the people who complained about 5.1 changes didn’t even get to play it yet, and you hear them complaining about it already, it’s kind of ridiculous, especially when you haven’t played it yourself. I’ve watched vids of 5.1 in action, and to be very honest, it doesn’t look that bad at all! I can’t say anything except I can’t wait for it to hit the U.S. so that I can get my hands on it, I want to try 5.1 right now.

I can say honestly that people are dropping T5 for no reason once 5.1 came out. I just got back from Okinawa after playing it for 2 weeks, and I personally like the changes. Does it suck that Roger and Ganryu don’t have their BS anymore because Namco chose to fix Bryan’s BS the wrong way? Yeah. Did that stop me from still playing? Hell FUCKING NO

I’ll probably be safe saying that 90% of the heads on TZ haven’t even touched 5.1. They have nothing to cry about until they actually play.

Correct me if I’m wrong, since I know next to nothing of T5, but it’s easier to beat 3s’ big three, thanks to parrying and everyone being sorta equal, but in T5 it’s harder? I don’t know, why am I even posting this?

T5 character balance is pretty much right there with 3s. Feng, Devil Jin, Law, Raven are like the Urien, Makoto, uh… Dudley and somebody else?

I think I sorta dodged your question. T5 has universal low parries, and the top 3 in T5 are by no means unbeatable. I still don’t quite understand enough about Tekken myself. I just know that the number of useful characters outnumber the number of useless characters.

The problem with T5 is not balance. The problem with T5 is not oki. The problem with T5 is people bitching about T5.

In 5.0 SNB have advantages over the rest of the cast, yes. It’s no different to 3S though, and how popular is this game again. You have 3 characters with clear advantages, but it’s not at all like the rest of the cast can’t do shit. It’s what makes the game interesting.

The No.1 reason people are saying they want to quite T5 over on TZ is because 5.1 removed tech catches, hence making oki less rewarding. People are definatly not bitching about oki being overpowered.

The problem with T5 is people who don’t know shit bitching about shit they don’t know about. They pick up any tiny anomaly they can in the games system, and then beat the dead horse about why it kills the game. If you haven’t noticed all the best competitive games are what they are becuase of little nuances like these. One of the biggest reasons CFE got dropped so damn quick is becuase there isn’t anything to exploit. The game is just too boring to many people. Say what you want about balance but I think MvC2 pretty much flies in the face of whatever argument you make.

Roll Cancel changed the face of competitive CvS2. The tiers in 3S are far from what anyone would deem balanced. Then we have MvC2 speaks for itself. T5 is no differenet to any of these. If you haven’t noticed already these are the top 4 games at tournies pretty much anywhere in the world atm. Come Evo2k5 I’d put money on them being the top 4 or very close to that again.

The argument is not whetehr T5 is dead. The argument is whether 5.0 or 5.1 is the standard.

No it’s not. Lei and Kuma suck too much for it to have that kind of balance (even though the only reason why you would see Q winning is because a god is using him). Also, SBN are much scrubbier IMO than Yun/Chun/Ken (say hello to my b+1), thus making halfway decent SBN players deadly.

5.1 is a lot better.

Sure their will be tiers but the tier gap won’t be as high as it was in the first imo.

sean?

yea they really fucked steve up :wasted:

5.1 is not out for PS2, so no way on Evo imo.

My only complaint on T5 is a general one about the combo system. I really dislike getting launched for 60% of my health or even more if we make it to the wall. I liked being able to roll off of walls in T4, so the first time I played T5 I got smacked into a wall and tried to wall tech. My first though when I couldn’t was, “tournaments should be played on open stages only.” I really don’t understand why they took the wall mechanics from T4 out in favor or the ridiculousness of T5 walls.

Open stages are a scrubby solution, I know, but I really, really hate being comboed for over half my health because I ate b+1 from Bryan or df+2 from Steve. It ruins the game for me. 5.1 is toning those moves down but it doesn’t fix my general problem, which is the enormous damage you get off a launcher.

Solution: do as the Koreans do and play at 140% damage.

you mean 120%

Ah, my bad. 120% it is.

Thats debatable to, its to a bad analogy although overall T5 is alittle more balanced then 3S. Yes I know some yahoo is going to come in here and cry foul and say some stupid shit about Twelve once won a tourny where all they had to do was win one game and dont fail to mention the 100 of tournies and or games that guy lost. People seem to want to neglect that.

PLEASE . .I would fucking MURDER your ass in Soul Calibur talk.

Were not even getting into this because I am right and you are wrong. But just to prove a point I’ll name a few GUARANTEED hits that Ivy has after they hit the ground::

1_2_3B+K
1A,A
2A+B
44_33_99B
1_2_3B+K
214**
K2
9B
4A+B
2B
1A+B

22_88_66**
A, B (guaranteed to hit grounded OR guard crush instant standing block)
A, A,A
B:B

44_33_99**
B, B

44_33_99B
Anything that Ivy has that hits grounded besides maybe 2A WILL fucking hit you, and it is guaranteed. Ivy and Xianghua are top tier for a reason.

And there arent “anti-airs” in Soul Calibur, dipshit. These are what we call “Three-D fyghterz”. Dont YOU comment on shit YOU dont know about.

EDIT: crumple stuns can be mashed out of and if you wait until they hit the ground it can be escaped. And thats if you actually count falling stuns as guatanteed ground damage/oki setup.

:encore: graffiti_sex :encore:

Haha, almost everyone has at least 1 move in their list that allows one good free ground hit in SC2.

And anyone that thinks that playing on open stages will un-scrubbify 5.0 play fails to realize that all 3 of the top tier do either a little worse(Bryan), just as good(Steve), or even fucking better(Nina) with no walls. Feng also goes up a bit because it’s easier to get his tech catches with no walls to screw up his distance.
