It depends on whether you mean the Hori Fighting Stick 3 or the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3.
Every time you win or lose, try and figure out why it happened, and remember it. Practice execution, learn the matchups, watch vids, learn to get inside your opponent’s head. Practice a lot and play even more. You will quickly grow stronger.
It could be your internet connection or just the PSN’s fault, but the netcode in SFHD is definitely still a little buggy. Are you on XBL or PSN? Wired or wireless internet? Behind a router? Torrenting stuff while you play?
There is no such a thing as “too much offense” in ST. You just need to learn to be smarter about how (and when) you… offend. Patience and understanding are powerful virtues.
Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of hardcore SF2! This did not need its own thread, but I’m happy to see that you are genuinely interested in learning the game. I promise that you are in for a very, very good time.
Which Hori stick 3? The Real Arcade Pro 3 or the Fighting Stick 3?
If you’re into fighting games, then investing on an arcade stick is never a bad idea. Just remember that having one doesn’t necessarily mean a significant improvement on performance. That’s something you have to work on yourself. But in my opinion, in the case of Street Fighter, an arcade stick always helps. You have more fingers to access buttons for different attacks, and triples, and piano methods are much easier to do.
Also, here’s a bunch of links to some Super Turbo tutorials. Most of these still apply to HD Remix, and a lot of these apply to most of the characters as well:

FYI, there are a few very notable sticks that will be released within the next couple of months if you can hold off for a little while…
the HRAP3SA: better buttons than the HRAP3 for only slightly more
Mad Catz SF4 FightStick Tournament Edition: will be awesome
Mad Catz SF4 FightStick: not nearly as good as the above two (or a regular HRAP3), but will cost the same as the HFS3 and probably be better
About all of your other PS3 games working fine… unless you imported Battle Fantasia or something, T5DR and SFHD the only online PS3 fighting games right now! Fighting games as a whole need muuuuch better netcode and connection speed/consistency to play well online, compared to pretty well any and every other type of video game that exists today. If it can be helped at all, try physically plugging your connection right into the PS3 and you’ll likely see some improvement. Is the router a particularly old or cheap one?
Soul Calibur 4 is also a fighter on PS3. I am getting the Hori fighting stick 3 soon, and might get the SFIV one when it comes out depending on how happy I am with the fighting stick. I needed an arcade stick to be even a little competitive at any fighting game. I literally move and react unbelievably slow like I never played a fighting game before with the controller because I grew up playing fighting games in the arcade with a stick. So even if it turns out I don’t particularly like the fighting stick 3 I know it’ll be a lot better than a PS3 controller.
My router is pretty new. Its a netgear wireless G router. I’ve played on a wired connection, but I can’t do it alot because my cable modem isn’t on the same room as me.
As for the arcade sticks, I’ll have to see for myself. I’ll be getting the SF4 fighterstick and controller when they come out. Sorry, but I don’t see myself paying $150 for a fight stick.
The best advice I can give to improve is to never blame your loss on something that shouldn’t have happened or something you didn’t mean to do. Every time you lose, your opponent presented you with something that you could not deal with. Find the root cause of not being able to deal with that, whether its input, strategy, or maybe you don’t know.
It can be very easy to say to yourself “ugh i meant to flash kick there, i should have won that”. Always challenge yourself - would flash kick have really won that? If I was almost dead, how did I get to that point? Etc… Never let yourself get comfortable with the current state of your game.
A wired connection definitely helps. I was playing on wireless and had a lot of disco’s like you. But after switching to wired I got a lot less. Plus try not to have stuff downloading on other computers i.e. pr0n lol
I have the Hori Fighting Stick 3 and bought it because I needed a stick, any stick. I nearly broke my thumb playing this game and the stick has helped out a lot, but it takes time to adapt.
The stick is actually pretty damn good. I got mine for $29 and it will do until I grab up a Real Arcade Pro.
One thing I don’t like about it is that it is restricted in four directions instead of eight. This means that it’s possible to miss a directional input. For instance, I can’t do a shoryuken every single time.
