And I’m one of those people who likes getting useless things to make my games feel more full. I just feel like Capcom is once again has good intentions but its execution is very sloppy. And the icing on the cake is they’re selling it like youre really getting a bang for your buck. For the record, 40 bucks for Ultimate is a good price, but it isn’t any kind of “killer deal” by any means.
-New stages are nice
-Balance tweaks are nice
-New characters are really nice
These costumes are starting to get lame for two reasons.
1. The Capcom colors arent paying homage to anything.
Spencers PN03 alternate is totally going to fill the void of not having Vanessa Z in, right? lol. Wrong. To take it a step further, they’re giving us alternate colors for characters that people were begging for. ie: Green Goblin & Kraven The Barbarian? I dont think anyone is sufficed by having a Green Goblin Firebrand because they wanted Green Goblin…lol
Not to mention so many ORANGE and PURPLE costumes. It’s just kind of weird.
Then you have characters who have colors that supposedly represent already existing costumes in the game. Like why give Dante and Trish a blue alternate and then claim its “in homage” to Vergils default? Sounds to me like you just needed a caption for why you gave Trish a blue costume. I’m not a marketing whizz, but I think they would have come across more genuine by just having a blue alt with no explanation…or at least find a better reference point.
2. The skins for the Marvel comics are lazy
If you go through the trouble to turn She-Hulks leotard to a body suit, then why not make Storm’s flesh part of her costume white if you’re supposedly giving us the 90’s classic Jim alternate? If you go through the effort to change Captain America’s shield and logo on his chest, but not have a maskless Hawkeye for his ultimate alternate…what are you trying to accomplish?
In a nutshell what I’m really trying to say is for what they tried to do, aside from Hulk (?) not too many Marvel characters alternate costumes even look like the comics they supposedly drew inspiration from.
Marvel is so critical about Dr. Strange and yet a blind eye was turned on his alternate colors, because none of them look like the comics they came out of. Lol.
I’m not being an asshole, but I naturally get curious when people say things and then their actions show something else. I know everyone is excited for these reveals every week but now they’re just starting to get lame. What next, purple Chun Li in homage of Psylocke?
Man, you will whine about anything won’t you. Your name really does fit with all the bitching I see you do.
Anyways, for #1, Capcom doesn’t have nearly as many alternate costumes and things to draw from as Marvel does, which allows them to take a more liberal approach. Also, people begging for Kraven the Barbarian? Hahahahaha good one.
And you know, for someone who doesn’t like “uninspired” costumes, some of those orange and purple costumes are specific references to other characters. And again, they don’t have as many costumes to draw from for some of these characters, so they may just give em colors for the heck of it, like Orange Dante. I’d like to see somebody come up with a full set of “inspired” Dante/Haggar/Tron/etc. Capcom alts that wouldn’t all end up looking really similar.
As for the “Vergil” costumes, its specifically stated that yes, they are specific references to Vergil. They both have specific details and color schemes to match them to Vergil. And again, you claim there’s so many “uninspired” costumes, yet here they are and you still complain. Hell, Vergil and Trish have Dante costumes themselves. So if it makes you sleep better at night, just think of it as a DMC only thing c:
For #2, I don’t work on the game, but I’d assume they have a reason for not doing specific things for some costumes. I’ve done some texturing work in the Brawl hacking community (inb4 shitstorm), and I know that sometimes in between textures there can be some ugly border lines when you texture something wrong. For Storm, I’m assuming that since that part of her skin isn’t given any other color in any of her other costumes, that there are probably get those kind of issues if they do try to texture it any differently. As for She-Hulk, she may not have that same problem, hence the differently clothed costumes And for your Hawkeye complaint, you’re asking for a completely different head model. They’d have to create a new model for his hair and unmasked face, etc. Captain America’s Punisher alt, however, is just a retexture, not a model swap. Even the missing earwings are most likely a simple transparent texture. And as for Strange, his costumes have such a different shape each time, its likely that what we have is simply the closest match they can make with his current model.
So overall, they really seem to be trying their best to make these costumes as accurate as they can. Barring some on the Capcom side, most are also pretty inspired, I’d say. And again, that’s only because they don’t have as much to pick from for their side hahaha. The only costume so far that I really think they dropped the ball on was that one Wolverine costume that looked pretty much the exact same as the original, and that one was probably a request from Marvel’s side.
side.
Let’s all step back and take a moment to realize that the op is whining about ALTERNATE FUCKING COLORS. They don’t “have” to pay homage to jack shit and if they do they don’t have to look EXACTLY like the character the color is based off of. it’s just their so you can tell player 1 from player 2. that’s it. It’s cool that they tried to use color schemes from the comics but it should be expected that a lot of them don’t work out without changing the entire model. This is a shockingly stupid thing to complain about.
Agreed, Colors are used for variety, sometimes these colors can be very different and unappealing, but thats why there are 6 colors, and with marvel they probably have a huge say on what colors are in and which ones are out.
some of them are actually pretty cool anyway. who cares if they pay homage or inspiration to anything. they don’t have to at all. Vergils “demetri” color is a clever kick in the dick to everyone who wanted Demetri in MVC3, i love it. Who cares how close or how vaguely look from their “inspirations”. This game is like the only game people give a shit about character colors.
It doesn’t matter anyway, most people are just going to use brain dead all black teams.
Am I whining over colors…or am I whining about Capcom’s constant contradictions?
Hmm.
I can care less about the colors. Just dont give She Hulk pants then turn around and say you tried to make Storms alternate as close to the 90’s classic costume as possible. Thats all I’m “whining” about.
Ammy’s Shiba Inu alt is technically correct but probably happened in specific because of Missile from Ace Attorney. I’d link a picture but it’s literally just a dog.
