SocalRegionals 2013 Side Tournament - Results

Guilty. Thanks so much.

OHHHHHH… dash j.HK… I was wondering how he was able to chain j.MP j.HK and have the head not OTG. It’s j.MP dash unchained j.HK. Makes sense now. (Really that’s all I personally wanted to see about them, but I know a couple of people also were interested.)

Also Skippy, you’re better off moving the head away from the corner ASAP after a double snap. It gets in the way and scales the combo too much. If you do, you can do s.HK, delay FU, j.MK (1 hits) xx qcb+HK sliding knockdown, OTG c.LK, s.HK, repeat or something of the like that doesn’t take too long, scale or become character specific.

Or hell, OTG c.LK s.HK, wait or IAD, j.HK repeat.

Lol I don’t know what’s special about that match, I was screwing up left and right and couldn’t even finish a combo. One of my “resets” on Parasoul was a dropped combo. Anyway I think this is a decent time to plug my Fortune guide I posted a while ago, a lot of my tech is in there including the turnaround combo.

I forget, did I land a double snap in the tourney? Anyway, I haven’t really practiced any double snap combos. I’ll try some of those out.

Yeah, what can I say, I got bopped. I need to play more.

So you coming back to SG or are you still on that boredurrlands addiction?

I’ll get back on SG cant have my boys getting bopped.

Hey Mike,

When SG was a FREE tournament with a $1,000 guaranteed pot you bet your ass people will enter it. (SCR2011)

How about when you promote a weekly event for $10 bucks in SoCal? How many dedicated players showed up every week? 5-8, sometimes nobody?

Not many places in the country have SG weekly events when we started them so it’s difficult to gauge how many dedicated players there are nationwide.

So I traveled to the EC and looked at the numbers at majors. They were getting about 10-20 and most of those players were cross overs from UMVC3 or SF.

I’m not sure why you keep posting like we’re the bad ‘organization’ by not supporting SG when your own community doesn’t even want to show up.

Super Arcade is a business and our WNF/TRB events must produce numbers for the venue to survive.

We gave VF5:FS a chance and LA Akira did everything he could to gain numbers, even by throwing in a $50 newcomer bonus.

At the end, less and less support came in for the title and Super Arcade had to make a decision to remove it from the lineup.

My conclusion is that not all games should have a weekly event.

Maybe a bi-weekly or monthly will probably work.

My suggestion is to attach SG to the BB,P4A anime scene and try to go from there.

We tried during UMVC3 and you know how that went…

P.S.
Not trying to be an ass, but next time don’t run events behind my back that are associated with Level|Up. You pretty much attached yourself to SCR without my permission and I just let it go.

You understand how that looks right? Have some respect for how much work I do for this community instead of QQ on not being part of the lineup.

I’m not unreasonable, just tired…

Since you put this out as an open letter, I’m gonna give my two cents on it.

I wasn’t at SCR, the only event on WC side I’ve ever attended is the one under my avatar, and I have no idea if there’s some deeper story here, so I’m not going to comment deeply on any of that. IMO you’re reading too much into that rant, that’s about it.

I don’t know anything about what goes into Level|up events outside of a metric ton of work. I watch your streams sometimes, and you’re the only guys I think are worth subscribing to outside of sp00ky.

So all that being said, I just want to tell you thanks for letting SG on the Level|up events and streaming it when it was new. I think everyone here wishes the results and support for the game was in a better place than it is now, and I personally think that you’re at least justified in not giving it the attention it had back then(even if I wish for more). But I do remember that you were willing to give this game a chance where a lot of people were turning up their noses a year ago, and considering the viewership you guys get, that was no small form of support.

So, seriously, thanks.

I don’t remember if I said thanks in the past before so I’ll say thanks for the pre-release streams, post-release streams and even the move to Thursday.

The heck? I said thank you for supporting us as much as you did! And I DO thank you for that, tons, both in person and online, and you know it. LevelUp was very open to us, and I know SG got dropped from WNF because there wasn’t enough money in it. LevelUp and Super have to make money - I don’t, so I can run things that don’t require an entry fee. I don’t mind.

(Aside: I completely agree that for most games a $10 weekly tournament is probably not useful. But I’m also not personally sure how sustainable an idea a costly weekly tournament is for players in general, and it seems that tournament fees have grown quite a bit from what I remember them being. I sort of wonder if you’d make more by having $5 weekly casuals with additional $5 biweekly tournaments instead…)

The post I was responding to referenced something they mentioned you said about SG not having a community - there’s certainly a community, they show up to the things I run. It’s just under-represented at majors…and it can’t become bigger at majors if said majors don’t include the game. That’s not QQ, it’s common sense. I recall GG, MB, and BB having similar problems.

P.S.
We got permission from UCI, I figured that was enough - if you prefer I’ll run separate events from now on. I brought all my own equipment, offered to pay for the room use, and DID pay the spectator fee. There were a total of four non-SG setups in the BYOC room all weekend, we didn’t bother anyone. And now I get crap for showing up? How is this showing support for the “fighting game community”?

Have some respect for how much work I do for this community without expecting them to pay me for it.

I am fairly unreasonable as well as tired. (^.^)

I wish i could enter SG tournaments in the US. Sadly i live in germany. But me in comparison to many other SG players in the US its not much of a difference when it comes to traveling. But its not just that either those major have an established pool of players that only play the major games. Why? Because nothing else gets a chance. There is no money in SG so why would a playerbase in an already well established region play anything else then the games that are the current line up. Atlus doesnt just make fighting games they can afford to support the community. Not sure how much money capcom puts into it, but as far as i know its next to nothing. The reason why Capcom games are doing well is because its the core audience that played similar games in the past and also adding the fact that madcatz/hori support these companies. How does a game like SG stand a chance without the core audience. Basicly if you want your game streamed at majors, either your capcom, atlus or namco or you have loads of money to your name. Its just sad that it turned out for SG this way.

Not ‘Namco’, ‘Tekken’…

#buthey

That tourney was hype especially ending with a Filia Lvl 3 of all moves to avoid the chip death lol

I’m just glad that Skullgirls was successful and that things went well.

In regards to the room, I’m sorry it was away from the main hall, but it was the best I could do under the circumstances.

Apologies to Scrub Saibot as well, I did not notice your post in our thread (I was not in charge of checking SRK posts). Had I seen it, things may have better for SG.

I’m glad I could help though. Mike Z is a great man who had opened his doors to me, a complete stranger, to play Blazblue in the past. The least I could do is return the favor and open UCI doors for him. As I’ve told Mike Z, Skullgirls will always have my support. Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves! Maybe we’ll see future SG events at UCI =)

-Ragnarok-

Skullgirls just gets crap for everything. We’ve heard every complaint ever.

  • Its art style is bleh
  • Its fighting engine is just copied
  • It just has women
  • You can do infinites on assists (the most retarded complaint ever)
  • Combos go on too long
  • People don’t attend the events

And then apparently when people decide to attend an event, it’s an issue.

We should just get used to it.

Apart from that, I don’t see how having a side tournament would cut into ANY attendace for Level|Up, especially considering Valle’s comment of:
“So I traveled to the EC and looked at the numbers at majors. They were getting about 10-20 and most of those players were cross overs from UMVC3 or SF.”

So with basically this comment, he’s made it clear that a Skullgirls side tournament will not cut into any of Level|Up’s attendance, considering most of them only came for games that DO make money.

SO… I see no issue. It was a tournament made to basically pass the time, and it didn’t interfere with any of their tournaments, and it didn’t cause havoc in the BYOC room, and you had permission from the UCI people to stream, which didn’t also affect Level|Up’s stream quality for the main stream.

It’s like if 10 people jumped at the same time to disturb a house of cards being built 3000 miles away. Does it REALLY matter if the people building the house of cards don’t want people to jump, when the jump won’t ever really affect it?

We should probably stop here.

Agreed.

I’m pissed off actually, me and my friend drive more than two hours to go to salty cupcakes to support Mike Z and a Game we LOVE! Its a community that is starting up. a new game that is growing without the capcom money behind it. sorry Ryu isn’t in it, its because its a totally different game made by REAL PEOPLE NOT CORPORATE FUUCKS THAT JUST STEAL MONEY!!!
Salty cupcakes has been growing ever since we started it up and we have more and more followers on stream, and runs parallel to marvel 3 and yer runback. By the way Skullgirls isn’t Anime! at least take the decency to look at the game.

Not that I disagree, but there really isn’t any reason to continue this.

Closing thread wouldn’t be a bad idea, Scrub. Dudes can talk about the event in gameplay discussion or something.

Can’t wait for Salty Cupcakes tomorrow!!! Everyone make sure to tune in or show up it gonna be HYPE!!!

You guys are missing the point.

I’m not upset at the event, moreso on the way Mike went about it.

I need to know everything that goes on at SCR no matter what the size of (side / specials events) that take place.

We’re a LLC and we’re liable for things that happen in case something goes wrong.

This way I can protect the players / side features that go on without it being a surprise.

We unfortunately had no room at SCR so Mike went about it to secure a side room for the event.(Which I had no idea til I saw him being escorted to a side room.)

I noticed there are SCR titles on the SG videos so people that were not there probably assumed SG was part of the SCR lineup or within the same boundaries as us. Again, if something went wrong guess who people point the finger at. Common sense should go to Mike and his staff but when legalities are concerned, they dig deep.

I was just frustrated on this whole situation after the fact, but hey it’s done and over with now and people had a good time.

Remember, I’m still a fighting game player like all of you. If you think I’m just straight hating on the SG community or something, you should really look what I’ve done for the FG communities for the past 15+ years.
