Kuro - If you’re willing to put on the show, then I’m pretty sure people would be willing to drive out there. Start talking about dates and a more specific location and people will respond better to the prospect of a gathering/tourney. A tourney at a park would be a little odd, though, unless it’s enclosed somehow. And not cold as hell.
K Balch - There are a lot of players in the LA area (and in the vicinity). Unfortunately, I’m not particularly closeby, but keep asking around and people will speak up.
Ok, well, forget the park. It doesn’t have outlets like all other parks in existence  . Plus, the whole weather thing is seriously killing any outdoor possibilities. So I was thinking that maybe I could rent out like a hotel club house or something, and host it there. One of my buds roomie’s lives there, and it’ll be done by about mid-March. If I could find an official date, I could ordain something as soon as this weekend. But that’s all pending because of the weather. Another option, since I still live with my parents, I could possibly ask them if I could use the house for about 8-12 hours for the tourny. As long as everyone helps me clean up afterwards(black moms are neat freaks), we could do like Little Caesars for food and crap. What do you guys think?
P.S.: What kind of head count could I expect for this?
I think an outdoor tournament is a bad idea. Getting a conference hall at a hotel room would be FREAKING AWESOME, but would probably require not only a reservation, but some sort of rental fee. I can’t imagine they let people hold events in those rooms for free. If you can hook us up with an awesome club house at a hotel, though, that would be rad. I don’t expect anyone would want to spend the cash to stay in a room there, though. That stuff gets pricey.
Barring that, I think the best option is to just offer up your house for the day.
Could you put up an address or something so people can stick it into a map-finder and see just how far away Norco is? If it’s central to a large portion of the community then I’m all for it. If not then I don’t see why we don’t host a gathering/tournament at a more central location.
I don’t think there will be a problem with people cleaning up. Everyone that attended the tourney I hosted was incredibly tidy (though my mom did help quite a bit). All you have to do is make trash-cans easily accessible and prominently placed, and remind people where to throw stuff out and things will be fine.
As far as food goes, Domino’s has this medium-pizzas-for-$5-each deal that worked out really well. We ordered like twelve and it only came out to like $6 per person, and everyone got their own pizza.
Anyway, that’s my input. Hope it helps. I think I might be able to put my house up again for a tourney in either late March or early April, for those that are interested.
Like I said, I’m pretty damn sure I can get a reservation at my bud’s clubhouse that’s up and coming mid-March. It only costs like $35 for the whole day. Also, here’s an address so you guys can see how far Norco is:
7481 Spindlewood Dr
Corona, CA 92880
That’s not my address, it just 3 houses away. Since we’re a fairly new residential district, we’re not on Mapquest yet.
Ok, I just thought of another plan. Since most of us don’t have curfew(actually, I don’t think any of us do), I should just get a decent hotel room. Not only can we hold about 15-20 people, but we can be there until the uber-wee hours of the morning. Food and spills wouldn’t be an issue either  . Thoughts?
Edit: A thought had just occured to me, are we going to be recording any of these matches? If we did I would need someone with a camera or something though.
Kuro - Man, worry about getting the tourney happening before you start even thinking about recording matches. I think most people would rather go to a smoothly-run tourney with no match footage than a crappy one that had the matches recorded. I know I would.
Also, I think it’d be better to run the tourney in something a little bigger than a hotel room… in my experience, hotel rooms get pretty expensive when they get big enough to host, say, 15+ people.
acggod - I’m sure there are some, they’re just being lazy and won’t speak up. =/
EDIT: not intending to sound like an overbearing ass, here. haha, let me know if I do
I live in Watts, so I am close to San Gabriel, Arcadia or even Temple City. But am dying under a pile of work, but I would definately be down to play when I see a little light in my workload. Yo, Acggod, who do you play?
Edit: Just looked up, and you made a sol vid. That might be a clue who you play. Damn Im lazy. :xeye:

Alright, I’m headed over to my buddy’s complex right now. Apparently it’s not 35 bucks for the whole day, but I’m going to find out. If it’s not more than 60 bucks to rent we’ve got ourselves a tourny spot. Also, it’s relatively closer than my house; it’s in Chino Hills. Anyway, that’s all for now. Peace.
If you make the tourney entry fee like $2 more and use that extra cash to pay for the place, that might work out alright. I’d be amicable to a slightly higher fee for the chance to play in some awesome club house…
Yeah dude. Let’s get this one on the road! Aw, man, I’d really be up for holding a tourney in my place, but it would probably be set random when my mom and step dad aren’t here. I mean, big screen TV #R!! It could happen, some day, but for now, I guess I’m going to travel for teh tournies. I’d be up to pay a little extra for a tourney fee. Not too stingy when it comes to cash.
Edit: Btw, think it’d be possible to slate this tourney on a Saturday? Even though the only ones I’ve been to are on Saturdays… that makes it all the better. Weekend tournies are own.
