robo sol: yeah thanks a lot dude. i really wanted the content of the video to have their practical uses. the song for the first version is “Inner Universe” by Origa and Shanti Snyder. If u wanna dl the songs u can dl em here…
render: yeah those other bands you mentioned are pretty cool too… and i love sonata arctica!.. feb 5 sounds ok to me for now… and i dont really care if it gets pushed back for now… and no problem with posting the vid in gcc. acutally thanks a lot. just a little iffy if the people there are gonna like it.
p.s. hey how do u and kevin throw sol out of his bandit bringer? does it work only w/ johnny? or do u guys just jump and throw hella fast? and do u option select it?
A gathering Saturday. Interesting. Now I just gotta get that day off. I didn’t want to drone on about details, so I cut the explanation short. My work requires me to ask a day off by at least 12 noon of Tuesday in the week before the day off is to be. I’ll try my best to get it off. Hopefully score a switch with someone else. Worst case senario, I call in sick. But that doesn’t really look so good, so if you are able to move it back to the 12th (the following Saturday) then that’d give me ample time. I really don’t want to be a hinderance on anyone else, though. So you wont hear any complaining should you keep the original date.
Render - I like your anime tastes. Heheh. And from what it seems, your music tastes, too. That “Wolf and Raven” song rocked so hard! That’s pretty much my favorite kind of metal. If I can’t find some torrents for them I’ll be sure to bring some blank cds over to Thousand Oaks.
Def- Those guys at GCC better like it! Cause I mean no BS when I say this, that was a really damn good Millia. I was truly impressed.
Shift- My friends have been telling me you have an insane Eddie. Your gonna have to show me some tricks since I’m toying around with him right now, and seriously considering picking him up.
Actually, the 6th is my sister’s birthday, so maybe pushing it back a week would be better. As it stands, shift wouldn’t be able to make it to a February 5th gathering anyway. The only qualm I have with doing so is those that plan on attending the SBO qualifiers would end up with two weekends of a lot of driving. I’m still debating whether or not I want to go. How would you guys feel about moving it to the 12th? So far that would better accomodate Robo, Pignutz, and shift, which is already a fair number.
Def - You probably mean Sol’s bandit revolver, but you can throw him out of the bringer, too. You just have to know when it usually comes - generally after a sweep. You do it after blocking the first hit, cuz there’s a little window in there to hop up and snag him. If you instant block the first hit it’ll give you even more time. It’s not exclusive to Johnny, I don’t think. I’ve done it with Ky plenty of times. Another thing kevin is really good at reading is Johnny’s divine blade… which again you just have to anticipate what move it’s gonna come after. It often follows 5H or 6H.
And holy crap, man, you have to explain to Tim and I how to option select air throws. We kinda get how you do it, but like, what is the input exactly? How fast do you have to do it?
Robo sol - I’ll just bring my whole folder of stuff. I’ve got a ton of vids (in addition to the music) and you and the rest of the Lancaster crew can pick which ones they want.
Ok, so how’s the 12th sound, everyone? Is that too close to SBO qualifiers?
haha, well, I certainly appreciate the compliment, but I think the only reason I can win with Eddie is because he’s really easy to rush ppl down like hell with, and it’s really easy to get confused on where to block… (I should know… freakin ruin owned me for free with him at my first tourney - plz don’t dl the video haha) =] I actually don’t know his really damaging setups/combos and stuff, he’s just super fun to play and tank with… goddamn drill is annoying as hell… =] I’d love to play him against you though and try to help out… what we both really need is to have id or ruin teach us lol… those fools have got him down. I too am still considering pickin him up… he’s too good to pass up =D I have a feeling whoever goes to SBO is gonna be facin him a lot, I heard there were like 14 Eddie’s used in the Japan qualifiers… @_@
Shift - Yeah. If ID or Ruin showed up I’d definitely have a notebook ready, hahah. I learned a lot when ID was teaching me some hints about Sol. And I just got a stick so I’m getting used to that AND Eddie.
Render - If you have a computer at hand with all that information I’ll can have Zephyr bring his External Hard Drive. He wouldn’t be able to play though. He’s on the road to recovery after just cutting his thumb, had to get stitches for it and all.
Def - Thanks for the music links. Had quite the time listening to them. And what’s Render talking about? Option select?
Hey, I’m not Def, but I thought I could help. Option select airthrows are a safe method of attempting an airthrow on a jumping opponent. Basically, while you are airborne, hold back on the stick/pad, and with two fingers, hit HS, and then S quickly afterward (while still holding HS). This cancels your character’s jumping HS with faultless defense before it even comes out. So if you are able to airthrow your opponent, an airthrow should come out if you are holding back on the stick. If you can’t because you are too far from them in the air or whatever, you will use faultless defense in the air.
Render: I’m surprised you didn’t know about option select air throws, you are already too good without them!!
my friend, selfscience taught me how to do this… but to do a throw option select… you jump, and hold back… then tap and hold hs, then immediately press s. so you’re basically just quickly strumming with hs to s. the way i do it is… i use my middle finger for the hs, and then my index for s. what happens is you’re doing a hs… but immediately cancelling to a fd. so if you’re opponent is around the range, they’re gonna get air thrown. if they’re not then you’re just fding. you wont leave yourself open, whiffing a hs in the air. you can keep your air mobility also… (double jump, or air dash), if you attempt to air throw with the option select. if you get really good… and you get it in you’re habit… every time you jump in the air you should be doing this. and you keep doing it while you’re in the air. so basically you jump hold back… hold hs… tap s… release… repeat about 2 or 3 times… before landing on the floor. thats 3 air throw attempts you just did in one jump!
i know a couple of US players that do this. im sure ID and cblue knows about it. but most of the japanese players i see… do this. especially kaqn… comes into my mind. everytime he jumps… you’ll see a flash of green from the fd. or sometimes you’ll see characters doing combos in midair… and then all of a sudden they just start fding over and over… thats cuz they’re attempt to throw out of a burst. u don’t need to option select all the time though since some characters already have a good hs. like slayer. or millia … since its 3 hits. when im trying to keep someone in the corner and they’re trying to jump or air dash out… you dont need to option select since if they get hit or block the hs… they’ll end up in the corner anyways. also keep in mind that all option select are backwards throws. so chars like faust and johnny really benefit from this since they throw forwards (back in to the corner) when they do backwards throw. but chars like slayer or sol dont really matter.
also option select works on the ground too. not sure if it works w/ all characters… but i know it works with millia. when your running and you wanna do instant stop… just option select it. that way… if your run at slayer and he does a mappa… if you option select and time it right… you can throw him out of it. if you mess up then you’re just instant blocking…
wow… ok …sorry for the long post… but i hope that helps… and i hope u guys understood me lol. i tried my best to explain from my stupid typing.
EDIT:: wow ok… i just saw matt’s post above me and he just explained the whole thing… lol… that foolio is hella good at option selecting. fuckin air throws me all the time.
Sounds good guys I’ll more than likely be there…but theres a slight chance I might now make it. Since I’m looking for work at the moment still…and I dont really have much cash to go to different places. Alright guys take care and I’ll hopefully see you guys again soon.
hey i have a question/favor to ask of anyone out there who has any experience working on sticks… i have a stick with me that belongs to a friend of mine that needs a bit of wiring work, but i don’t know how to do it myself. basically the part of the controller that you plug into the console (ps2) has some loose wires or somethin and needs to be replaced/resoldered… i think it should be a fairly simple task for anyone who knows how to do this sort of thing… if anyone on this thread can or knows someone who could possibly help me out in getting this fixed, could you please let me know… barring any unforseen circumstance i should be at the TO tourney on the 12th, and i could bring the stick then (i also have a soldering iron if needed). any help would be greatly appreciated… thanks a lot guys…
I know some basic soldering…like soldering the microswiches on sticks and buttons. Haven’t messed with the actual wire that connects to the console itself though. The best place to get help on that is to go to the Hardware Technical Support section here:
I read about that Thousand Oaks tourney on the 12th. Sounded like y’all had some fun. I’d like to join in on a gathering like that sometime in the future. I’d like to see a new wave of SoCal play…and then ride it if possible. It would be a good reason to get back into shape with Baiken/Axl…since in place of Guilty Gear its been SamShoZeroSP and RumbleFish for like…god, I can’t remember LOL.
Fuck, I wish I was closer. I should make you people drive down here and put on a tourny at the park or something. It wouldn’t be that hard, just need a few TVs and a few PS2s. Now that I think about it, maybe I should. You guys have any problem driving down to Norco?
Norco’s really close to me. Only about 20 miles away. Not too shabby. I’d be up for that. But a tourney at a park? …Eh… dunno about all that. With this weather…
Hey y’all just found this thread I live in Los Angeles, and I’ve been hurting for good gear players to test my dizzy against. Im up by USC, people on this ever still meet up for casual play?
