He works with doom so well that I just have to use it, plus his endless amount of otg’s is absolutely ridiculous with the right assists. Dude does mass damage and just wins.
Because the day the game came out, everyone that I talked to hated on him and how dumb he looked, so I picked him (and MODOK) up. I dropped MODOK because he just wasn’t what I was looking for.
Spencer, however, was just right.
Doesn’t have fireballs and his projectiles is a grab which works as a good tool. Plus works when closing the distance.
Never was one for fireball types, mostly my tactics involve not letting your opponent breathe or have room to. But I’m trying to perfect my strategms for actual play, but it’s long work in progress.
Honestly did not care for the character when I first saw his promo, but his gameplay style looked fun when the match videos came out and he does a ton of damage. The character just grew on me over time. He’s been almost dropped a couple times, because I keep losing to high priority A attacks, but I’ve learned to adjust.
He is a lot like Cable…More reactionary and high damage, but has the tools to launch an effective offense. Bionic Lancer is one of the best supers in the game and can turn around a matchup quickly.
I used to hate the Wesker matchup, but now I feel like is in my favor. Shoot and teleport high = throw into death. Shoot teleport low = free air combo into death. Shoot and do nothing = ARMMM!!! Also against Phoenix, while Spencer is useless in air to air, airthrow aside, the Lancer DHCed into whatever can punish stray fireballs that would usually be safe.
Also, not too many people know how to deal with Spencer since he is not often played. Combofiend does a lot of flashier combos than me, but even simple BnB combos are more than enough. I prefer to run Spencer when he has meters to burn and has assists…I don’t like him as anchor.
In Ultimate, with the airdash nerf (free ARRRMMMs!) and the move to more of a zoning game, plus his new move, I see Spencer having a longterm role on my team.
I just like his playstyle. Fits me.
Also love “How could I lose? I have a bionic arm!”
I play spencer firstly coz of his flashy combos and damage output. Zipline is a really good way to get around. And once you start mastering the Zipline, you can easily mess your opponent’s gameplan - because it can cancel/trade with a lot of normals and specials. On hit, it causes a lot of hitstun too so you followup with a combo. Love chaining 2 bionic arms without xfactor. yeahhbuddy
I look like him
My first day with vanilla Marvel I ran through the first few missions for all of the characters.
I ran through Spencer’s and immediately saw the potential of Bionic AAARRRRMMMMM.
It was fast.
It was one epic, brutal hit.
But most of all… it punished damn near everything (or so I found out while experimenting after that), and that fit me well given that I like defense. Speaking of that, Spencer was hard to kill.
I put him on my tertiary team at that point (Mind you… I probably played my “secondary” and “tertiary” teams more than my primary, because I didn’t bother with my primary unless I was losing).
I also ended up finding out that he had great synergy with Taskmaster because he had an orange jumpsuit outfit like Taskmaster, and for me, costumes are important. If a team doesn’t match, you can bet your ass I don’t play it
When I messed around with spencer task doom in vanilla I made stupid jokes about how I played docta doom and da jailbreak boyz because of those yellow outfits
I made the decision to main him when I continuously was beaten down by keep away players. I hunted for a counter to that, and Spencer was the answer that I found. He simply has complete Aerial Dominance.
Also, Bionic Launcher to smack people who throw stuff from mid-screen.
Everyone’s hating on Spencer, saying that Combofiend is the reason why there’s so many of them.
People just be hatin cause our character don’t wear a trenchcoat or swing a sword.
Rise of the non-trenchcoates and sword-less warriors!
Why do I main Spencer? Because Capcom said f*** you She-Hulk thats why
I first was awed by this guy when I first saw combofiend play with him but thought more about other characters. Till my friend just Shut down all my assist heavy teams with a simple hyper and saying that there were four bars waiting. Since ultimate though, my team got a bit to predictable and I needed a good anti air. Bam, I see the bionic arm and play test against some spammers and were sold.
Because the man has kickass synergy with Iron Fist
To be completely honest, I pick my characters in a fighting game before I even touch the game based on if they’re appealing to me or not. In vanilla, I picked Amaterasu because Okami shuffle looked like the sickest hyper combo ever. I picked Dante because he had some super flashy moves that looked really cool when in a combo all together. And I picked Spencer because he could snatch you out of the air and then otg into a super. Only later on did I solidify my team choice after seeing what people like Combofiend, Kniv3s, Cl0ckwork, Marlinpie, 10stars, Richard Nyugen, Yipes, etc, did with those characters. My team doesn’t really have good synergy or anything, it’s more like three really good characters on one team, but I love it.
About a month into Vanilla, I hit Random for the lulz and got Spencer. Instantly fell in love with his playstyle, and I’ve mained him ever since. When I found out there was a guy playing Spencer and topping at big tournaments, I started watching and learning, and got better with Spencer. He’s so cool. It’s like he’s an anti-zoning character, hits hard, and has something for every situation.
Plus, you know… How could he lose? He’s got a bionic arm.
“BIONIC, AAARRRRRMMMM! K.O.! How could I lose? I got a bionic arm! With this bionic arm, I’ve got more than enough tools to take down jokers like you.”
I played Bionic Commando on NES way back in the early 90s as a kid. Even though they went with the “MEH” character design for Spencer from the '09 Bionic Commando game instead of his classic design I still had to main him since I’m a big time Bionic Commando fan.So basically I’ve been using him since day one.
BUT, since his ReArmed alternate is coming out as DLC tomorrow that’ll fix that problem since it looks a lot closer to the classic design than dreads Spencer does even though dreads Spencer has grown on me for the most part.
i play him becuase he goes really well with my boy haggar…plus his alt is awesome.
Pshhh who needs a trench coat and a sword when you have a bionic arm
