So what did Sakurai REALLY think of Smash Brothers?

^ Why do you always say stupid shit and then turn around and act the victim when someone says something?

No-one is referring to blanket game features that almost unanimously will make most products appealing to any consumer. The subject at hand was referring to game mechanics, specifically those that affect a fighting game when played a certain way.

Shiki’s post was sarcastically mocking you because you straight up admitted that you had never touched the game but yet made a idiotic statement about how it should be applied to another title…I can’t even believe you are really serious about not seeing how dumb your post was.

Unless you are saying product additions like saving replays, online capabilities, etc are directly equivalent to core engine mechanics, in which case you have yet another problem.

Yes it does, and that’s why your statement is so absurd. “I’ve never been to a college level astrology class, but imho they’d be more interesting if they talked about aliens.” You are NOT qualified to judge a game or ANYTHING that you don’t have first hand knowledge of.

False Analogy. A college course and a game are two very different things and if you don’t like my example of replays then I could use mechanics then. Like with Tekken 6. Tekken 6 is a bit slower than 5 and has the bound system. Would someone who has played Tekken 6 would really have to have played T5 or any other game to know that they would like a faster game without a bound mechanic? Same applies here with me. Is it necessary that I would have to have played Melee to know that I dislike random tripping and wanted a bit more complexity in the current game I’m playing?

Should have done that in the first place.

Yes, absolutely.

Sure it does

I find the fact that they dumbed down Mvc2 fucking stupid. I didn’t play mvc1, but i know for a fact that it is better.

Explain how. If I don’t like something that’s slow then what does that mean? I want something that’s faster. If I come across a glitch that’s irritating, would I not desire the absence of it? I liked the idea of directional air dodging in brawl, because as I said it adds a bit more to something I was craving for. I don’t even had to have played Melee to know that I would’ve liked it in Brawl because for one it was in the 64 version which I played and second it gives me more options and mobility which is something that I know I like.

I just noticed what you really said here and specifically put the word “anything” in caps. So are you saying to me that you don’t approve of murdering a helpless old woman in cold blood, because you have done it yourself? I also wasn’t judging Melee. Just because it has such and such doesn’t mean I would know if I like it better than Brawl or not. I would have to know just about everything about it to make that decision.

So you have NO FUCKING IDEA HOW THE GAME WORKS, and yet your opinion is supposed be respected.

Dullyana was obviously referring to knowledge. Go into a governments office and request no taxes. Sure you don’t know what taxes do but you still want them gone. They will laugh at you because you have know previous study or experience with the economy. So your opinion is invalid, just like it is here. Stop trying to make it seem as though you are the victim. The only thing you are a victim of is your own stupidity.

Hey you know what, GGAC has one button throws with instant start-up. You can mash throw while being pressured and possibly throw the opponent, and it isn’t necessarily hard to do so. Clearly GG needs multiple button throws with slower startup to make the game more complex!

Of course pretty much anybody who plays the game can point out multiple things wrong with the above, but not a person who HASN’T PLAYED THE GAME, AND THUS CAN’T MAKE AN EDUCATED INFERENCE. Your line of thinking is the same as an unfortunately large majority, in that they can be fed bullshit and they’ll believe it without looking into things and thinking for themselves. That’s not to say that tripping is a-okay or whatever, that’s currently aside the point.

Your first statement was ridiculous and RoS was mocking that. Even with ALL CAPS phrases it apparently flew over your head, lol.

Am I the only one that smells that?

I honestly can’t believe this topic is still going…

Just to chime in, this analogy is pretty BS, in my opinion. I don’t see what murdering someone has to do with wanting mechanics from one game in another, or even the class/tax office analogies. For one thing game mechanics, skillsets, and taxes are human constructs that can change and evolve in unpredictable ways. What is fun or considered highly skilled one day may be boring or primitive the next. You NEED experience to participate in these things; if you don’t spend time learning a game, skill, field of knowledge, whatever…you can’t pass judgment on it and propose changes to it.

The whole murdering an old lady thing is just an action that has a set outcome that can be readily ascertained by anyone with half a brain. Knife + old lady = corpse. Corpse = guilt, misery, and jail time. Comparing a moral decision to a technical one is inherently flawed because you require different sets of criteria to judge each one.

Now it’s 5 AM so I’m not sure what I wrote makes sense. Hopefully it does though.

Ouch. Remind me why anybody wanted a Smash thread?

I think this is great evidence that FGD isn’t the place for Smash discussions.
