I mean, the general rules of combo’ing and tagging out don’t apply to them.
Are we really gonna be seeing these guys in tournaments sometime soon or is this not decided yet?
If not, we should talk about it now. I for one think that they should be banned on the basic principle that they are giants, they have constant super armor so combo based characters don’t work on them (Karas). I know they are beatable and I know they suck against certain characters (Casshern/Ryu) but why should I be forced to switch to Casshern or some other “giant raper” to play those two specific matchups?
I mean, could you imagine entering a tourney and fighting a Smart PTX user? You pretty much have no choice than to pick one of those characters. The way I see it, you should potentially be able to use any character to beat any other character with heavy emphasis on the skill of the player.
I know tournaments haven’t started up yet but still, we should get the discussion on these two characters going since nobody really talks about whether or not they’re “fair”. Now keep in mind just because they can be beaten and have somewhat severe drawbacks or disadvantages doesn’t mean they should be playable in tournament.
One example is Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen for the Cube. Akumaru (the dog character) absolutely sucks but they still banned him, simply because he’s too short and impossible to combo. Now he’s definitely beatable if you play low and know which attacks connect with his small hitbox but why should you be forced to learn a completely different way to play just for one character. Basically Akumaru doesn’t adhere to the general rules of the game. He doesn’t get combo’d and most high attacks miss and he’s just …boring to fight against. Just boring.
This is the same for Yoda in Soul Calibur 4. He is Banned from most tournaments. From what I hear though, since both Vader and Yoda are now DLC, they are considering leaving them playable even though Yoda is absolute trash.
I want other people’s opinion on this though because I notice some players are actually trying to play with these characters which I find ridiculous and a waste of time. I mean they’re boss characters made playable for fun I think. Yes… if you had a boss character in the game why not give the players a chance to play with those characters for the hell of it. I highly doubt thought and consideration was put into how these two giants balanced out with the rest of the cast. There’s really no point in having them unplayable…so that’s why I think they’re in. Just for the hell of it, I doubt they expected people to play them in tournaments.
Also, I have to mention this. This ties in to why I believe they should be banned. They’re just LAME and BORING to fight against. NOT FUN. It’s like fighting a boss, but your friend is controlling them. I literally have no fun fighting them because you have to focus on stupid one hitters, running away, super jumping, more running, throw out some projectiles, run away again, rinse and repeat. Does this sound fun to you?
I mean dam, there was this one kid in my school playing with PTX in my school’s video game club and he kept winning due to spamming throws (Yes I know you can easily Tech Hit them) and knocking people out of anything they would do with the super armor. The winning wasn’t the problem, the problem was that nobody wanted to fight him because it simply was not gonna be a fun match for them. They knew what they’d have to rely on to win and the whole idea disgusted them to the point of not playing. I refused to play as well, because going Soki/Karas on a giant is kind of retarded and those were the only chars I had at the time. My point here is, these guys are lame to fight against, lame to play as and if they are legal (…somehow) everybody’s just gonna have a giant raper counterpick team specifically for them, therefore making the Lightan and PTX mains USELESS in tournament. It’s inevitable.
What do you guys think?
