So That New Karate Kid Movie

Probably around the same time sigs revealed that Million Dollar Baby is part of Karate Kid canon.

For those that care, I saw that movie. Tried to avoid it in honor of Mr. Miyagi’s great legacy, but it’s not like they replaced him with the Asian guy from Hangover, they got Jackie freakin’ Chan, so I had to respect that.

Thoughts:

  1. Fighting was obviously much better, even though the kids were much younger.

  2. A LOT of nods to the original, sometimes nearly word 4 word dialogue.

  3. I understand a lot of people’s points about the “kid” thing, but I still thought Jaden was too young. Just couldn’t get in the movie like I should have been able to when its an 11 year old kid who looks like he’s 8 playing the part. Wish he was at least 6 years older.

  4. In the end, it just kept reminding me of the old one and why I liked it so much, instead of standing on its own. I so wanted the evil kung fu dojo master to say “sweep the leg” to his pupil. And I needed to hear “get him a body bag,” but that’s just me.

  5. Why not just call it “The Kung Fu Kid”? The title made no sense and there was no reference to karate in the movie.

LOL a Canadian threatening to spit in someone’s face? You’d be much more believable if you were threatening to be insanely polite to Will Smith if you ever see him.

i heard he was gonna lock his backdoor.

Movie was great. Paid homage to the original and made it even more epic/better at times. Jaden Smith was good. Jackie Chan was good. Not the same as Mr. Miyagi but still good in his own way even though they pretty much play the same character.

I had no gripes at all but I guess the only complaint people could come up with is that the kung fu is a little bit more fancy and such that everything seems a bit too rehearse. The sound effects and camera work were good though and made the hits seem brutal at times which is good.

so much unnecessary will smith hate in here.

To those who’ve seen the film, are the fight scene good?

I don’t hate him, but i’ve read some stupid quotes before. i remember a long time ago reading about him and he was going off on all this conspiracy theory shit…of course it all had to do with the white man out to get the black man. The government introduced HIV into the black population to thin them out and shit like that.

But he might be fucked in the head…but pretty much everyone in hollywood is. They really shouldn’t be allowed speaking in public aside from when they are acting in a movie.

I’ve also heard will smith say he prides himself on how good he looks when he runs in movies. haha…but then i watched bad boys again. dude actually looks pretty good running.

This is sort of off topic, but considering some of the epic win that was on the previous page, I feel no shame.

I noticed a few months ago that there are certain angles where Clark Gable in his movies, when he has has a mustache, looks uncannily like Will Smith. I think it might explain part of Will Smith’s success–his face already existed in the Hollywood canon, and white producers who looked at him back when he was still trying to get his movie career off the ground were like, “You know… I don’t know why, but he looks like star material.”

obama caused 4/20

will smith is filthy rich,he could rent every room in ceasar’s palace and cancel evo. Then beat the shit out of you and make you bathe and wear deodorant.moral of the story, don’t hate.

Saw the movie last night…it was actually REALLY good!

There were alot of funny moments and the fight scenes were good. Seeing jackie chan beat up a bunch of kids was pretty funny and awkward…but still pretty awesome. Though i did notice that one of the kids he beat up…i dont think he was a kid, he’s probably a young adult…maybe 18ish, could be wrong. Some of those other kids were probably 14-15, which would explain why these asian kids were so much bigger than Will Smith’s son…kid is like 11 right?

Riley Freeman makes an excellent Karate Kid.

Saw the epicness that is this movie.

Shame on you O.G’s hating lol, I have the first 3 karate kids @ home with part 2 being my fav and all i gotta say is that they did a good job and paid homage.

They could have named it the kung fu kid but all in all kung-fu is a mind state and the karate is a part of that. Why be picky with the wording?
Movie felt very nostalgic, they bascially made one movie that had parts from the first 3 movies mainly the first 2.

The fight scenes were crazy as hell, i thought Daniel-son got his ass whipped back when i was a kid but no where near the beat down’s Dre-Parker caught.

Movie was dope, the training, the journey to where Mr Han learned his kung-fu all that. Plus how dope was it when the evil Sensei was talking?
What do we teach?!

No weakness!!
No Pain!!
No Mercy!!

Just classic!! and they were extremely brutal with the no mercy. I swear if jackie chan didn’t show up when he did i think those chinese kids were gonna kill dre parker …lol not just beat him up…lol.

Stop the hate go check it out if you love the old joints.

8.7/10

did Ralph Macchio make a cameo??

I wasn’t trying to pretend it was anything more than conjecture. Go rent “It happened one night” on DVD from netflix and tell me Clark Gable in that movie doesn’t look like Will Smith. He even has that funny mannerism that Will Smith has where he hunches his neck forward and looks “up” with that grimace that says “yeah, uhuh.”

What makes one person make it in Hollywood and another fail is a difference in luck and hard work. Okay, Will Smith undoubtedly worked hard to get where he was, but can you really account for the luck that got him to where he was today? Little things like an actor’s “look” and charisma when he’s auditioning for a part with producers and directors can mean a huge difference.

Sure, a more plausible explanation is that Will Smith worked his way out of the television comedy trenches because of “Bad Boys,” a buddy-cop movie, whereupon he did movie after movie being paired with a white guy, before finally getting films like “Ali” and “I am Legend” where he was the male lead–but where’s the fun in talking about that?

Older brothers or friends. But clearly older than the rest. And even then, he didn’t actually hit them. Push maybe.

I agree totally. I saw it the other night, and enjoyed it a lot. I recognized a lot of the scenes (probably all of them) and even whole lines were taking from the original but it still felt fresh somehow. I thought it was a fun movie

Much more violent then I expected.

No blood of course, but it does have some good fight scenes, especially near the end at the tournament.

The main Chinese bully plays a very convincing villain. I’d be scared if I came across that character irl even though I’m 25…

Jackie Chan’s pretty damn good in this movie. His acting is great and I almost cried during the sad part… And I NEVER almost cry!

Jaden was aite… His casual acting is pretty bad but when he needs to be serious and angry, he acts very well.

The most important part of any movie IMO is acting! Even if the script is terrible, it can be saved by a great actor.

It was better than I expected. Little Willy has potential.

Jayden, Chan, and Henson were on George Lopez last night.
