So That New Karate Kid Movie

It’s definitely not the ignorant part. From linguistics it would be a semantic shift/change (professor wrote it as both) of broadening. One word used to describe things of similar characteristics. Certain american dialects use the word Coke to describe carbonated drinks; historically the word dogge (now dog) use to refer to one particular breed, now it is used as the generic term.

daniel larusso couldn’t fight for shit. it was obvious that he didn’t receive any training or he did but couldn’t handle/comprehend it. will smith’s kid is receiving a shit ton of training for this movie, and from what i’ve heard/seen so far, hes handling it pretty well.

ha ya, ever since I studied a little linguistics, it just seems arbitrary to me to browbeat people over dictionary definitions of words.

On the other hand, I can see practitioners of kung fu and/or karate taking offense to the terms being used interchangeably.

Who cares? I’m not watching a movie about an adolescent karate student for skilled fight scenes.

I agree with both sentiments. But this is much how my girlfriend feels about the Green Day musical: she loves musical and likes the fact that a new generation is getting a hook into it (which she has kinda adopted from my point of view on many things) even though she has a strong dislike of the band. A new generation of children are going to be exposed to a country and martial arts which normally wouldn’t be exposed. Can’t really dog too much on Green Day since I haven’t listened to all of their new stuff yet (but boulevard of broken dreams sure is one shitty song about nothing).

For better or worse, Karate Kid exposed a lot of us to martial arts and to some of that extent so did Street Figther (when I was a kid, both of this were blew my mind).

You’re right. He won’t end up a one hit wonder.

People act like this shit is scripture. It’s not even a remake. It’s a modern adaptation. You want to see the Karate Kid? It’s been on DVD for a decade and on VHS for two decades. Go watch it.

I guarantee this movie will be better than every Karate Kid excluding the 1st.

Just stop.

stop what/ What’s with the old randmon shit people like to post?

Jada Pinkett-Smith is officially not-hittable. I saw recent pics of her, and looks like an alien is growing out of her forehead.

Do not want.

How come the chinese kids are bigger then the black kids in this movie? Makes no sense. lol

for the lulz. all the bullies in the karate kid were all bigger than daniel.

I dunno…3 was good, but mainly cus Silva was an evil version of Jason David Frank.

Karate Kid had Miyagi-sensei instructing Daniel, and making it sound like he was telling him to polish the carrot. This one is no different, thanks to sifu Chan’s “JACK IT OFF!”

Maybe we can petition for them to change Jaden Smith’s character’s name to Riley Freeman and have Aaron McGruder deliver a social commentary after the credits.

Then they might get a Hamilton from me.

This movie actually looks pretty good honestly.

If they had the roles reversed, ie. a chinese kid being bullied by black kids, the movie would be labeled racist.

Black people can’t be racist silly!

Well, so long as they don’t make a video game with the same title than we’re all good. Man the original Karate Kid on the NES was a classic.

Hollywood doesn’t care about Asians enough for it to be racist.

I wonder if he’s going to teach him the first lesson in karate. The one about taking a fall.

So wait? This isn’t a Karate Kid reimagining/remake? I don’t fucking get it. I was wondering why there was no Cobra Kai. Maybe I’ll go see it after all. If it is a Karate Kid film though, and I don’t see fucking Cobra Kai, I’ll kill somebody.
