So...SF3 was considered a failure...what are some reasons that might be so?

lol good ol srk and its sf4 troll phase

It came out at the wrong time. Almost no exposure, growing up I never heard of 3S in mags I would occasionally pick up, there were no commercials, almost no media exposure. It wasn’t ported to the consoles until 99 for Dreamcast only at the time. New Generation wasn’t very good, 2nd Impact was better but the damage was done, then 3S came along and wasn’t ported until 02. I randomly found an arcade that had 3S, played it once, moved on (not a big fan of fighters at the time), then the machine was gone a few months later.

Two big things revitalized interest: The Daigo video (no question) and when it was emulated in 07. Then GGPO came along, and interest has been consistent.

Thank the gods for GGPO.

actually one of the big things that revitalized interest was it getting ported to ps2/xbox in the same year as the full parry event happened :I

I agree.

So many tools like to throw the word ‘freak’ around when describing SF3. It has a different art style than SF2. In fact, I would say SF4 has a freak cast because everyone looks demented. Then you have hypocrites who think characters like Blanka /Sim aren’t freaks.

Necro
Remy
Urien
Elena
Twelve
Sean
Dudley
Makoto
Ibuki
Gill
etc…

Nothing screams ‘freak’ to me. Nostalgia kicks in, and you’re turned off. Then you play the game, and it’s vastly different from SF2 - another turn off. People who say ‘freaks’ do not like SF3, they are most likely haters who have nothing better to do then be insecure about SF4, and have to bad mouth SF3. It’s been more frequent since SF4 was announced to have SF3 characters.

It’s true. I’m really insecure about SF4.

The other day, I was standing in line at the bank. I saw this old lady waiting in line. You know the kind; the kind of bitch that you look at once and just know she hates SF4. She was clearly a 3S fan.

Naturally, I can’t be having that shit on my turf, so I got all up in her grill and was like, “Yo! 3S sucks! Parry this ho!” and punched her in her old, droopy left titty. That will teach her, I thought.

On the way home, I starting thinking a bit about it. She probably didn’t even speak English, I thought. So I went back to the bank, found the old bitch again, and was like, “???” and punched her again, only this time in the right tit. That time, she knew I meant business.

Boy, this whole 3S/SF4 rivalry really brings out the worst in me. I’m always really worried that someone might see me and realize I like playing SF4. Defending my hood is hard work, you know?

Then the old woman said: ???

/point proven

I made you create a long post on insecurity, and it shows that you are indeed insecure.

In a futile attempt at getting this thread back on track, here’s why I think SF3 was a failure in my city:
[list]
[]Very few arcades had SF3 cabs, so many people didn’t even get a chance to play it. This was probably because the cab was expensive. Also, the only cab that I knew of wasn’t serviced often (because noone played it) so the joysticks and buttons were always faulty.
[
]It didn’t feel like SFII or Alpha and since noone else played, there wasn’t any incentive to learn it’s ins and outs. NG wasn’t very inspiring either.
[]Tekken 3 was just too good
[
]T3 and A3 were both available on the PSX, and everyone had a copies
[*]There wasn’t a PAL release on the PS2, and the Dreamcast wasn’t available in my country

???

Oh, god! You tricked me! Boy, I really need to keep my eye on you, you trickster!

Man, SRK never fails to deliver.

I’d also like to add that the Street Fighter EX Series scared away potential players. When many casual players decided not to play Street Fighter EX because of the bad gameplay, their excuse was that it was produced by another company and was considered a spinoff. When those same players tried SF3, the feeling of the new characters/gameplay gave off the same vibe as the EX series did. With that retarded logic, they gave up on SF3.

In other words, the casual fighting gamer thoughts are: “Why play SF3 when I gave up on EX? The gameplay is so different, its probably also produced by another company…now back to Alpha 3 and Tekken”

The stupidity is strong in this thread.

Anyway ROS pretty much had it right.

There are a lot of reasons why SF3 wasn’t played. Actually a decent amount of real arcades did get SF3. You didn’t see it a lot in convienient stores like 7-11 or liqour stores, but you’d find it in actual arcades. SF3:NG was probably put out there more than any other game. The problem is that no one played it at that time. I know I had no idea how to play the game. As a matter of fact I played it like I would play SF2. I never parried or anything like that. It wasn’t until I started going on the Internet years later I even knew parrying was in the game. I personally enjoyed NG for what it was. to me it was a new SF game, with a new cast, but at least the shotos were still in it.

I think the game had a lot working against it. When you looked at UMK3 or Killer Instinct at my arcade, you saw people pulling off flashy combos. You didn’t see anything like that in SF3:NG. So by comparison the game seemed slower than a lot of other games around at the time. And Tekken 3 just overshadowed everything at my arcade.

Overall, I think only younger people who started off playing 3s (and none of the other SF3 games) would want to argue that the game was a failure. I only saw a 2I cabinet once in my entire life. Seriously.

Are you going to post anymore damage control?

because the right breast is HEARTLESS. Woyohhhh!!

Wow you must have been really gotten to. He wasn’t even necessarily directing the post towards you, just 3s fanboys in general because because they are so insecure that any time someone posts anything that isn’t pure 3s praise the thread gets flooded with “you don’t understand it”, “you hate it because you can’t parry”, etc.

Here’s the thing with the parry system in 3s, it makes the game very different from other fighters. Some people don’t like that, it doesn’t mean they don’t understand it or are too stupid to parry, just means they don’t like how the game is played with them. Now you guys can rant and rave about how awesome 3s is and how everyone that plays anything else is too stupid or you can accept that other people may not like the same things you do (shock isn’t it) and get over it instead of hijacking every thread that even mentions 3s into a “parry vs no parry” thread.

Hey, you. I’ll ask you to refrain from making sense or logical arguments in this thread.

People don’t take kindly to that around these parts.

Hey, you don’t like 3S? Whatever man, different tastes.

Hey, you don’t like cheese? Whatever man, different tastes.

Hey, you don’t like PS3? WHATEVER MAN, YOU’RE A MICROSOFT WHORE, KEEP PAYING THAT 50$ A YEAR TO KEEP PLAYING ONLINE, YOU FILTHY, DIRTY WHORE!

:coffee: So serious.

 This guy took Starcade’s post seriously. I mean, yeah, sometimes it can be hard to detect sarcasm through text, but goddamn.
