So...SF3 was considered a failure...what are some reasons that might be so?

Samurai Shodown had parrying it via tapping “backwards” in SS2, SSAZ and Shinsho, and the only

Samurai Shodown had parrying via
tapping “backward” - SS2,SSAZ,Shinsho - first occurrence in 1994
inputting a command - SS3,4,5,5sp,6 - first occurrence in 1995
tapping “forward” - Shinsho - first occurrence in 1999
using reversal button - Sen - first occurrence 2008

So while SNK was first with the concept of parrying, Capcom was first with “parrying via forward tap”.

That tapping back to parry sounds a lot like Just Defend in Garou. Was there even a risk to tapping back to parry?

you should time it, but if you pressed it too early (and held) it will be like usual block. Well basically the essence of that isnt in tapping, but so that beginning of blocking coincided with opponent’s hit. For example if you were stunned (couldnt do anything) and still held “back”, and stun ended moments before opponent’s attack reached you, it would get parried (since you regained ability to block moments before that attack hits you).

Capcom didn’t screw 3S.

3S screwed 3S.

Word.

So, all in all, you are not saying that Capcom did a poor job on SF3, but rather, you did not enjoy the game, period. You didn’t like the gameplay mechanics, you didn’t like the characters, and you probably didn’t like the music, right? According to you, these factors result in a game undeserving of the number “3”.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Just know that your experience alone is not enough to confirm SF3’s “mediocrity.” It’s gonna take a whole nation or two to drive it into obscurity for good, which isn’t happening anytime soon, btw. I nor anyone else should have to point out why it is entertaining. Your answer is in here, Eventhubs, Youtube, GGPO, and the arcades.

As somebody already said, SF3 is not “perfect.” Neither is SF2 (rehashes included), SFA/Z 1/2/3, S/SF4, nor any game that you have fun playing (Fate/UC). But you have to wonder: if SF3 is “sucky”, why is it one of the leading games in GGPO and 2DF/Supercade, why was it an entry in EVO and Tougeki tourneys, and why is it given more attention through this thread among others?

Because it’s not a fun enough game to leave my house for.

I’m not even trying to make a logical argument about the game. I’m just pointing out the inherent dislogic in the way people try to talk about fighting games here.

Uh, isn’t KoF 98 the leading game at GGPO? I mean it has three lobbies ffs.

You say it’s not perfect, but give an ‘issue’ with it that is pretty par for the course for fighting games. So the only fault you’ll admit it has really isn’t a fault, therefore it’s faultless (and 99% of the faults anyone else might point out are just ignorance) therefore … you think it’s perfect. It’s perfectly fine, though I mean why try to front like you’ve critically judged the game? You don’t have to critically judge the game.

Whoops, dummy slap for me. How I missed KOF 98 I don’t know. I should have said “one of the leading games at GGPO.” SF3 still is the leader at Supercade, though.

Yet, other people still play SF3 on tens of thousands of computers globally and at tourneys worldwide… I believe I already mentioned this.

You’re not answering my question. :nono:

I know, I was being sarcastic. I agreed with your post 100%.

yunno im sorta glad that i made that initial post so fiery…that it got people got all riled up over it…because before my post the other member’s posts were getting way way too cerebral and intellectual…pretty much sorta boring.

i mean sure ya gotta post some of the stuff they were puttin up in trying to answer the question why sf3 wasnt more a commercial success…

but now everyone is posting a little off the topic…with the whole not answering why it wasn’t more of a success…

damn! i missed my gamestop delivery…now i gotta wait till tomorrow to get it re-delivered so i can play capcom fighting eve +sfex3+couple more games.
