Not sure what OP is talking about… Rose is loads stronger in this version. EXSS does have its flaws but it just means you cant become overly reliant on it as a get out of jail free card. Grapplers are a nightmare for everybody once they get in on you but thats the point of a grappler. Its never easy to fight off grapplers but they would suck if escaping from them was easy considering how hard they have to work to get in.

Trying to go for a command throw is always something touchy against Rose. We are basically playing rock/paper/scissors…with Rose having more options than the attacker:
Backdash beats throws
OS beats backdash
Throw+Focus tech beats both OSes and Throws on the 1st few frames
EX Spiral blows frame traps and OSes
Blocking beats OS
Stand teching beats frame traps
…
How much more defense do you want ? I was complaining about that nerf too but being able to move forward at distances where you can’t reflect a fireball is just pure power. And they get punished for 130 damage for 200 stun. AND no need for charging. If done at footsie range, you are safe on block. I don’t see any other moves that can give you this much advantage. Most moves that moves this far requires either charging or to be in a special condition (i.e: Hakan needs to be oiled to use his EX slide fullscreen)
In no way did Rose got screwed, 0 throw invincibility on ex spiral does hurt more in some match ups " balrog corner jap/grab pressure in my opinion " but overall its damn good. The Sagat MU for sure is better because of it.
The character in general got some interesting buff or would i say needed buffs. It may not be everything we wanted but the end picture is she’s better than before. I’m sure most of us are happy that she wasn’t over buff and became an AE Yun or Fei long. Then now the Rose section would be filled with tier whores and all credits and respect to a Rose win be gone.
I love working hard for that W ,lets try coping with her changes and the overall game changes.
Try doing lp+lk+mp+mk - backdash. You’ll tech grabs and focus backdash to avoid OS’s. Of course you can’t do it on grapplers with command grab but this pressure on wake up is their strength that compensates their usually bad mobility.
^ Good point! I never understood how that works, because doesn’t focus out-prioritize grab? Then how would it ever work as a throw tech since you are basically dashing out or absorbing a meaty before the time you can be thrown anyway.
Don’t know if you know this but that grab at 1:30 in the vid you’re talking about only hits standing opponents and when you get up from a knock down you go into a standing animation before you crouch I’m assuming this is what you mean as “inescapable” because if you back dash that, you get thrown. However, if say idk you crouch tech on wake up you don’t enter the standing state you would if you hadn’t pressed a button. You instead go into a crouching state right away and that throw would miss. So all you have to do to get out of it is press a crouching normal on wake up if you know that set up is coming.
Well they definitely made her more like Sim in that regard that she HAS NO GOOD WAKE UP OPTIONS anymore. You get knocked down, and it’s the other player’s move. I know exactly what Crappy is saying about being willing to burn 3 bar just to stay safe, but I think delayed wake-up is a big buff for Rose too that she at least doesn’t get a one way ride to Vortex City from any knockdown. Crappy, you just gotta get over the habit of treating EX Spiral as a cure-all reversal. You don’t wanna be one of those players anyway. Imagine how free Yun would be if he always used EX upkick after getting knocked down. I shudder to think.
I’m far from the type of player that uses EX SS as a cure all but there are certain situations that it was viable and worked well. My complaint is just as you said, “she has no good wake up options” anymore.Everyone here thinks that I just mash it on every wake up, this is not the case not even close. Delayed wake up is good I agree but for certain characters like Hakan that can react to your wake up animation in order to time their command grab set up it really doesn’t do anything. Having EX SS here to blow that up was a good option and would score you a knock down yourself so you can go on the offensive.
For the last time, I do not mash EX SS on wake up FFS people.
Yeah I wasn’t really suggesting you do that, but I’ve seen Rose players, even in Ultra, mash spiral through block strings and it comes out like mid screen where they would’ve been safe to just block out the sequence.
Also yeah delayed wake up still leaves the other player in some sort of advantageous position, and I’m in no way thrilled about EX spiral getting throw vulnerability. I kind of want to go back to vanilla Rose ^ ^
