So let's talk about why capcom's empire of fighters crumbled

Whether or not 3s changed things in a big way is debatable, but not worth debating. So anyway…I’ll try explaining it one more time.

From a gameplay standpoint, 3s felt like it was made for hardcore SF fans. I fail to see how that was attempt to bring back alot of casual SF players or bring in new comers.

I used my brothers (who played the shit out of SF back in the day, and just eventually, like many people, lost interest.) as an example. Alot of people simply looked at the SF3 series and didn’t take interest.

Matarick, that was hilarious. but also sad, becase it’s going to take something like that to get people interested in Capcom fighters again. But all Capcom has to do is TRY. Anything with a cult following this huge has enourmus potientail.

Probably forever or until Capcom comes out with a console version of Street Fighter II that’s arcade perfect. I mainly speak of SSF2T in particular.

Come to think of it that was the reason why Tekken 5 was dropped from MLG cause of low turnouts. Which sucks cause it would’ve been real nice to see a fighting game as part of a professional league.
Oh well to dream :shake:

Broadband killed arcades which in turned killed things the “fighting game craze”. I think there would have been a Street Fighter 4 by now if Capcom didn’t have to rely on console sales to make up their costs and to then turn a profit. Correct me if I’m wrong, but with Street Fighter II and III arcade machines were what was supporting the franchise. Not the home ports. People wouldn’t think twice about dropping $.50 to play some Street Fighter (which is why every arcade and resturant in the world had a machine), but they would ponder if a $50 Street Fighter 4 is worth it. Street Fighter III left a sour taste in a lot mouths. They couldn’t count on nostalgia sales. It would only be the hardcore buying it, which a.) isn’t enough to turn a profit and b.) isn’t worth it because they know we’ll buy re-releases.

Online gaming centers and cafes seem to be doing really well in the US. They are the new arcades. Companies need to start releasing arcade machines that allow for internet play. I guarantee an aracde rebrith of sorts. That’s when we’ll get our Street Fighter 4.

Don’t blame the pike of trash that is SFIII’s failure on change, that game sucked because it sucked. I’ve said it a million times it would have been better off as a completely different game instead of throwing Ken and ryu in and calling it street fighter. How hard is it to make someone who plays exactly like ken and ryu BUT ISN’T THEM? it can’t be that hard since 90% of other 2D fighter have someone just like that.

The final straw was last week when I saw the “new” SF for PSP which is just Super Street fighter or hyper fight with Eagle and yun in it.

  1. That’s Street Figher Alpha 3.
  2. Which isn’t being advertised as “new”.
  3. I highly doubt the game would’ve sold at all had it NOT had the street fighter name on it.

Tigerboi had it right, Street Fighter failed because Capcom allowed it to fail. Same thing they did with Megaman. Megaman 1-3 was fine, we didn’t need 4-6. Megaman X-2 maybe 3 was fine. We did’t need Megaman X4-whatever they are at now 6?? 7???. RE 1 and 2 was fine. Three was ok but just rehash. Those shooters were bad. Someone decided to be smart and rerelease RE4 and now RE is back on the minds of people and they probably could release 2 more RE with little change and still be successful. It’s just that if your going to be an IDIOT and release 4 more RE with little change, and expect us to be dumb and eat it up, then you are setting yourself up for your franchise to DIE. People LOVE to bash Nintendo, but When have they ever rehashed their games??? None of the Nintendo Marios were the same, despite having same technology (UNLIKE Street Fighter), When have their SNES games been the same. When have their N64 or Gamecube games been the same (honestly, with the exception of Mario Kart which really is the same thing (but at least it gets graphical upgrades) and Mario Party which is the same thing in a different fashing, All of Nintendo games are often Vastly different than their previous incarnation. Take Zelda for example, only Zelda ocarina and Majora’s mask used the same engine, other than that, there have been a new engine for Every Zelda Sequal ever.

So THat leads me to the Quote, We didn’t fall because we refuse to support it. We are not idiots, We are not mindless, Empire Fell because Capcom mismanaged it, not because we did anything. Street Fighter Alpha was great, But I don’t need a repackaged Street Fighter Alpha 3 in 2006. I just don’t need that. I don’t need a repackaged Street Fighter 2 in 2004, I just don’t need that. I don’t need a repackaged street fighter 2, street fighter 3, Warzard, Street fighter alpha, and Darkstalkers all in the same game with NO gamplay changes in 2005. I’m sorry but I’m not that Dumb. I’d MUCH rather getting a Soul Calibur 3, a Virtua Fighter 4 evo, or a Tekken 5 over these. While some like SCII and Evo uses the same engine, at least they got tons of changes from the single player campaign to move changes.

This is obviously a 2D fighting board but It’s time to give up the 3D bashing, It’s time to give up the Casual gamers bashing, It’s time people look in the mirror, relize where the problem lies, and Bash the correct individuals that need bashing.

This topic has turned into a complete fucking warzone. Someone get rid of it quick.

The obvious idiocy of tiger boi and company has gone on long enough. Its obvious they not know what they speak of and will just continue to talk out of their ass, so I see no point in keeping this thread open.
