Correction, Ken’s father is half Japanese and his mother of full, making Ken 3/4 Japanese. Keep in mind that this is according to the SFV animated series where he alto has orange hair. His last name is Masters because Ken’s grand dad on his fathers side is American. Ken was also born in America, technically making Ken a solid American. So in actuallity Ken isn’t Japanese.
PS: Nothing is wrong with caring a out SF’s story.

Here’s an interest fact (I use this term loosely) I read up on wikipedia. After the success of SF2 Capcom struck a deal with Hasbro, the makers of “Barbie” and they made the first SF2 action figures. In order not to confuse buyers SF’s Ken with Barbie’s, they gave him the surname Masters which had been later used in the animated movies. Capcom later canonized it as his official last name leading many to believe that he’s American, that and the fact that he’s blonde. In the original SF Ken’s name was written in Kanji, his name meaning “fist”, indicating that the original Ken was a Japanese Ken. But in SF2, his name is written in Katakana, indicating that his name was the American Ken, short for Kenneth. Ken’s background had been altered by Capcom.

Actually, I think the real interesting question is why you have to be at least partially Japanese to throw a frickin’ Hadou move.
Even Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Go brothers, Sakura, Dan, and Sean…all have Japanese in them. I think Capcom has some race/ethnicity issues…
