the same thing could be said about turning smash bros in general into a tournament viable fighting game. yes by making certain restrictions we can make the game less random and more straight forward however that wasn’t how the game was originally intended to be played…tho even that statement is a can of worms since combos in SF2 were something that just happened…but it laid down the basic foundation of how we believe a fighting game should be.
While I think that smash could be played as a competitive fighter, I also believe in letting randomness of the crazy stages and items run amok because thats how they designed the game to be played. Some of the craziest things in smash happen because of those random variables.
The fact that the option exist to eliminate items and crazy stages means that the game doesn’t really have a clear intention to begin with. At best the game can be said to be designed for all preferences, a truly open ended experience. If smash releases a special"tournament mode"in the match settings then this entire debate would be over and in truth that’s the only real difference between this and traditional fighting games. Traditional fighting games incorporate the glitches and techs players find that the designers didn’t intend…smash ignores them.
At any rate for purposes to uphold consistency and integrity, items and wacky stages have no business in smash tournaments because the open ended options in smash make it possible to "design"the experience.
More or less that and with the increase of plain or flat level stages(the Ring stage in the E3 trailer for example) seem like changes to promote a more tournament style gameplay or at least present an option for the game to be played in such a way as opposed to Brawls vision in destroying competitive play with the slip mechanic among other things.
Hmmm she could make a good cammy given her athletic moves.
I think the fire emblem characters could just follow under the influences of samurai showdown and last blade characters. Marth would actually be a easy fit for a fighting game…probably a bit OP cause I’d imagine his poking game would be insane.
Fox could be like zero from SVC or even Athena in 02…amazing zoning and incredible mobility options with his dash special.
My non-committal post is being responded to with aggression, which is the product of a capitalist/colonialist hierarchical ideology. COME WITNESS THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM. COME WITNESS THE VIOLENCE INHERENT IN THE SYSTEM!!!
So mario would be kind of a weak shoto cause of his inconsistent projectile trajectory so he couldn’t do traditional shoto traps. He would however have air fireballs and his cape move so I think he would kind of work more like rose and akuma in the sense that his air fireballs would control space and his deflect move would actually be effective. Luigi would be more of a traditional shoto…straight shooting projectile and his u+special hits with no curve. Plus he’s taller so he would have better normals then mario and a better jump arc.
Samus as chun is pretty obvious but samus would kick chun’s ass. She has better projectiles and the ability to completely control the air game in ways that make viper look pathetic. Normals would be just as good but she has a kara throw twice the length of 3s chun with that hook beam…plus the suit would make her HP above average for female characters. Only downside to samus would be her walk speed which I could imagine being pretty slow by comparison. Fox as guile…I don’t see fox being a charge character cause of his projectile speed. I see fox more like O sagat with the insane projectile recover and awesome DP…cause fox’s u+special would be just as sick as O sagats DP but even better cause he can control where he goes. Plus he mobility would be the best in the game…incredible speed and the f+special would be insanely broken as a movement option.
Yoshi would be a charge character, all his specials have lag on them enough as it is so it makes to make him the charge character…so I guess he would be the guile minus a reliable DP. To compensate he would have a amazing jump arc but still he would be fucked on wakeup. Link is more like vega…both have sharp weapons but link has a actual DP,projectilse and bomb mind game that would be deadly as a meaty.
Jiggly would have sims floaty jump but all in all I think he would be a garbage character…no range, no good pokes and shit specials. Pikachu is blank…lighting move,f+special movie and his u+special is the ultimate AA move especially if its the EX version…and he has a projectile
Kirby is like honda especially with both having a HS type of move but I would imagine kirby would have a much easier time around projectiles. DK as gief is close enough but DK isn’t really a grappler…I’d say he’s more like alex then anything.
Ness would be a unique character type because he has elements of zoning yet a projectile he can completely manipulate and control. Falcon is bison in normals only, his specials would be QCF motions and would be just as fast.
