So... is TvC "broken"?

This.

personally i think the ken invisibility glitch is broken and banworthy.
he literally looses all his hit boxes so he cannot be harmed, though he can still do damage with his projectile and assists. it is a 100% unbeatable timeout tactic when ahead on life(just drop the controller and wait) and your still gonna be able to win even if your life is lower, just doing single hits at a time with his projectile, and maybe team super mix-ups if team supers still work, i forget.

To me it seems effectively equal to something like the gambit glitch, except you can win even if your low on life. maybe just give the glitcher the win whenever he is obviously ahead on life to save time. if people want to keep it.
at least the otg glitches will kill a character

All the glitches that are being talked about are only a problem where there is no scene. Like in Japan, it is not hard to assume that a soft ban on anything that would make the game come down to only “those tatics” is implemted. Meaning that yes, we will allow it but to a very small extent. Change the game once or twice we see no problem with it. Run a whole season Ranbat with it and we as a communtiy will ban it all together.

The shit you guys are talking about being broken is shit none of you even do so how broken could it really be? Is the Casshern/polymar otg harder than the Megaman/yatter one? No but I have not seen anyone besides myslef and Yourmother talk about either and what they hold to the game up to this point. The shit that needs to be removed out of the game in my eyes is still way above and often missed by most of the “Non Japneese” scene.

Again, Game far from broken. Stupid fun and steep curve to get Top level at!! I guess that would make it broken in the eyes of SRK!!

Quick Edit: When I say steep curve I mean that the game and gameplay style is almost completely new. As you start to get things down new things come up. With a new version and added speed to the gameplay it can only get harder to learn it all.

Melty Blood is this game but Melty blood already has like what 6 different versions or so it has more of a polished feel to it. TvC will get there if they keep at it.

Double edit: With how man new people are going to be comming to this sub-fourm in the next couple of months, this is really not a thread that we need to have in here. So I agree with Yourmother and the choice should be to burn this thread quickly.

But just because we don’t do it here, doesn’t mean it’s not possible to do it (and therefore break the game)

Also, if Smash Bros has taught me anything, it’s that it’s really hard to get a fighting game community to agree on soft bans to ANYTHING. Like the metaknight cape glitch. I still don’t think they’ve gotten around to properly banning it.

^ Stop Just stop.

If Smash Bros has taught you anything it is that soft bans work!!! It started to be considered to be banned. This is what actual game communities calls “soft ban” meaning that most of the community knows about the trick/glitch and knows how game breaking it is, leave it alone and we will not ban it, sure you can use it and we will put some kind of tourney hold on it but “Conduct yourselves with honor in matches and it will stay the way it is, soft banned.”

M2k is the best in brawl right? He play who? MK. He has never abused this glitch/stall tatic. The best does not use it and the rest follow it. Some MK’s still use it as a slight stall but none worthy of a ban.

See soft bans work as long as the community is together on it.

OK kids, here comes the definitive response:

The mechanics may be “broken”, but in order for the game to be broken, they would have to dominate the game, i.e. we would have to have evidence of people using them to win. Any proof? The best cash/poly player I’m aware of is that guy from TRF. I’ve seen him use the ground pound inf (proving he can do it) one time out of probably 50 matches I’ve watched him play. Invisibility glitch? I saw nekonohi (from a-cho) do it once at the end of a match he’d already been dominating. SBO winner? Runaway happy Ken/Ryu. I went to the qualifier and watched him play, as well as playing against other SBO players. You know how many ground pounds I was subjected to? 0. You know how many invisibility glitches I saw? 0. Shit just doesn’t happen in real matches except for every once in a long ass while.

In order for these things to actually be broken, people would have to use them to win. They don’t. End of story.

Probably because they don’t really focus only on doing them. I don’t see any reason why these couldn’t be used to win. After all, the requirements for getting them isn’t too hard.

It’s not about whether people use it or not, but whether it’s possible to do them reliably in a practical situation. Which it is. If the potential for it to happen is there, then the potential for brokenness is there also.

Listen man, I like you more than some people on this forum which is why I hate to have to call you out, but you don’t know what you’re talking about. If I’m not mistaken, your competitive experience is something like zero and you’re just talking from speculation. I’m not even going to talk about myself, but these people are SBO quality players, and they WILL NOT just “not focus on something” that could win them the match. Just watch the HnK tourney from when that was at SBO. Look at how many people just “aren’t thinking about bball combos.” I’ll let you know right now, that number is zero. And the player carryover from HnK to TvC was actually pretty high. My first qualifier I lost to the guy who won SBO HnK. Dude plays Toki and I know for a fact that he did more BBall combos than you can imagine. You know how many ground pounds he used? None.

If you think they just forgot about these combos, or decided not to go for them on a whim, you’re waaaay the fuck off base. Once you show me some evidence that this shit is game changing like you say it is, I’ll buy it, but until then, seriously. I’ve been to these tourneys, you haven’t.

So then what is the reason why nobody uses these combos then? Inconveniance? Just look at it from a technical standpoint based on the factors of risk vs. reward, execution, practical application etc.

The polymar + casshern ground combo basically takes a baroque and an assist. That’s it. Once you pull it off, you kill one opponent just by mashing 2A and there’s nothing the can do about it. Furthermore you can use it to run the clock, because it takes forever to kill them.

I don’t get your argument. Stop relying so much on what pro players do and use your own head a bit.

I do not get it. You two are going about this the whole wrong way. Now I do not know too much about HNK but from what I have seen, a lot of the players in that game have really easy/weird infinite’s. Now if they all have them or at least 76% of the cast has them then we can see why people use them to win, they are on an even playing field with their opponents.

The Cassher/Polymar or ken glitch are really one of a kind, no other characters can do what they are doing. So yes if used then it would break the game, if you have two bars or have taken chip damage with Casshern then that character is dead off of one jab connect. It really “would” change the game.

Again know that when you are in a real fighting game scene there are things that are just agreed upon. I think that we all know that the otg infinite’s are broken, but, unlike those in a actual scene, we just have to “think” about how it would effect our “scene”.

The pro players make the scene, they give us something to push for and that is why the american scene has such a bad one, look at our GF players, they hate the game. We have to hold the value to the top lvl players, seeing as they do not have to guess the value of certain things because they actually have enough players to test shit.

I hate to see you two fight because you two are like the only active members left. :>(

But it was nice to see someone call out Squirrel, pad player… :stuck_out_tongue:

Close this topic it will only build more hate for the game.

edit: Yourmother, your second post on this page is so correct but it is also very clear that they have a soft ban on that kind of shit. Maybe you just have not been privy to the info because they know you will hold honor in your play. I am only to assume but I know that I am close to being right. There is something that is stopping them from using it all the time!!

wolfox made this thread supposedly to go against ppl calling it broken, and instead, ignites more ppl to say why it’s not broken, then of course, brings ppl in calling it broken. INGENIUS! nothing has been solved, only ppl calling it broken (AGAIN) and other ppl disputing it. lol.

Here I’ll spell it out for you. Meter management; risk vs. reward.

Standard combo: You do a good chunk of damage, and if it’s good enough, force the opponent to use two bars and damage themselves even further, putting you in a positive situation both in the health bar and the (extremely crucial) meter situation.

Ground pound: If you hit during the crucial frames, which is tight but doable, you go into the ground pound, killing off one of your opponent’s characters, but leaving both you and their remaining character with a full 5 bars and not much time left on the clock and the pressure on the situation ratchets up quite a bit. Basically it creates a potentially more favorable but way less stable situation.

Have you ever noticed how top level Japanese players won’t use supers if they’re not above at least 2 bars? Keeping an advantage in the meter department is crucial for gaining an advantage in the game and setting your opponent up with a free 5 is just not that smart.

Now how about you use your head instead of asking me to do it for you. The fact is, these are not people who fuck around and don’t pull dirty tricks without a good reason. So if you’re going to watch the videos, try and figure out why. Take something away from it instead of (for whatever reason) assuming you know better than them.

Kind of. Other characters can ground pound, it’s just cheapest with them.

No, there’s no softban. These things have been used in tournaments, just very sparingly. Maybe some people don’t like using them, but in general, people have no qualms about using them. I specifically brought up HnK because it was a game that had infinites that you could go into which had no way of being broken out of, and people went for them constantly. There’s no kind of “honor” in this thing like some people want there to be. You do what you can to win.

Is all of this really relevant? Didn’t they try to rebalance the game to keep the “broken” stuff at a minimum?

I know how meter management works, thank you very much. I play PTX. Meter management is pretty critical for giants.

Also, that makes sense I guess. but even if you and your opponent are both at 5 meter, It’s not like they can do all that much with it if they only have one character and the clock is at 10 seconds remaining.

And don’t dis my pad! >:/ joysticks feel so awkward to me, I just can’t get used to them.

I’m not amazing at this like some of the top players, but from my experience, it’s not broken. The balance is descent at out level of play. Karas is really good and the Robots get raped by supers. Alax is low, but workable. I don’t see anything diffidently broken.

My thinking is that at low level and high level play, TvC sort of balances out. It’s at that mid-level where Karas becomes such an issue for most players.

So it isn’t broken, it’s just a game you either have to suck at or be good at.

This is what I show to everyone who thinks TvC is broken and wont play it for that reason (or any other dumb thing)
