So if you could design your own character for a game

That line rocks, very graphic. That’ll be my fighter’s taunt too, kicking herself in the face. Shows ya mean business. Oh yeah story time: She’s from the streets…

I’d main that. Wheres the UNR?

Now on a serious note ; for a character -

I do not mind making a character that uses moves based off of both ninjitsu and wrestling. By Ninjitsu I’m basing this off of Kage-Maru from Virtua Fighter, mainly the Izuna drop, and wrestling was just more or less of instructional video type of wrestling. You know, Travis Touchdown for instance. But more wrestling than ninjitsu, but that bit of ninjitsu is there. As for how they played, I always thought the concept of El Fuerte was interesting itself, but just all around not safe at all. I’d honestly want to say his playstyle is grappler, but at the same time, a mobile grappler, like Potemkin to say the very least. Character design wise, well I could dig up my old sketchbook and post up a sketch but I really don’t feel like scanning, so I’ll sum up what he looks like. Imagine a TvC char without their silly cape, but the helmet is still there, and the color scheme is for the most part, very dark. I’ll just leave up a sketch later though, if I still have my sketchbook.

I dunno if this counts for games which are actually in development (my friend’s current doujin project) but I did have a bit of a greater hand in designing one of the character’s movesets, so that was a lot of fun.

The character in question is a grappler/ninja type. His mobility is pretty good for a big guy and obviously his strategy revolves around unblockables and pressuring an opponent into getting too defensive so he can grab them. However we thought a typical up-close grappler function would be boring and the artist actually didn’t have any clear idea as to what kind of powers he would have.

I came up with the idea that it might be cool to try to create a ranged grappler who can harass the opponent into action at mid and far range, but who suffers up close compared to speedier characters. A bit of a reverse role for a grappler, but hey, it could be fun.

The idea I had was that he would create portals (similar to Valve’s Portal) and stick his arms through them to grab the opponent at range. The portal grabs themselves are to be helper-type projectiles that would put the opponent into a custom hitstate if they struck and trigger a throw animation. Originally we just decided to keep this to grabs, but after a while more ideas were flying around for a really creative moveset. He’d be able to teleport by hopping into a portal and coming out the other end (think Slayer dash), attack opponents with long-distance punches from weird angles, lots of tricky stuff like that. It suited his ninja design to have something so sneaky and when he’s animated his moves should be really amusing to look at. Dropping an opponent through a loop of portals untill he removes one, forcing them to crash into the ground could make a good hyper attack. Another idea was to let him actually fix the portals on stage however he wished, but this could allow for overpowered okizime and easy unblockable setups.

The problem of balance did pop up though. A mobile grappler who could sling fast unblockables at any range is sounding quite cheap. So his close range game would have to take a hit. His close ranged moves are going to be mid-speed and fairly unsafe on block. Also, since his portal grabs leave him open while he’s reaching through the portal to grab you, most opponents can avoid it by predicting well and dashing, since the hitbox is small and there’s a big blind spot right in front of him. So while he may have good range, he’s easier to punish than traditional up-close grapplers, and the player will need to be really careful not to just spam portals.

Sadly we’re still only in the paperwork and artwork phase, so it’s not like I have beta videos or anything. He’s scheduled to be one of the last characters to finish, so I probably won’t get to see him in action for a very long time.

One character I’d like to do (either in MUGEN or whatever) would be a guy in his mid thirties, average build, but he’s dressed like a Neo-Nazi/Samurai hybrid. His grandfather served the Imperial Japanese Army during the Nanking Massacre and he idolizes him. His moves would be a combination of Geese and Genjuro (SS V Special version).

I’m pretty sure OP meant the kind of moves and in depth playstyle of the character but instead we get a GameFAQS lite thread.

LOL, yeah pretty much, getting a bunch of bs instead of anything really thought out.

I was gonna make an example but I have been a bit to drunk, but who knows, maybe later. Fuck me it’s been hot around here these last few days. I will come back and give you an example with a Tai fighter later.

The funny part is that you KNOW you dug your own grave. You still have a chance to delete this thread. Just sayin’.

Yeah, you right dude!! Anyway…

So we have me making a Muay Thai fighter.

Yeah, I want a smaller pixie fighter with high risk moves with mobility. Make it a small chick, say she is an ex student of Sagat that got her ass kicked so much that she couldn’t continue because of injuries. She finds another master after words that teaches her how to use her ki to be recover more and also do other things…

Okay so we got a pixie, with decent pokes ala Sakura, maybe lacking on range so we can give her both a quick overhead and another comboable medium kick type move ala Sagat and Joe.

Her mainstay would be grapples even though she is a Thai fighter. Her close grapple would be a half circle with kick that goes into a knee clinch, but doing another quarter circle with punch gives you a quick launch attack that you can use to juggle or mashing kick will give you just plain old more damage. that ends with them being knocked back. Give her another grapple that is a Snk like half circle back to forward with punch that has her jumping towards the opponent like Vice or Blue Mary to do a grab that has her waist locking you with her legs to go into a bunch of elbow strikes to your opponents face. Ex version would do that auto tracking shit like Sakura and hit multiple times for nice damage but it wouldn’t have that many invincible frames, just at the start up to go thru late fireballs but it would also hit crouching opponents. It would also hit in the air but with a different animation and damage.

Give her a Uppercut with the knee thats a cross between Sagats knee and Adon’s with diffent arcs and different hits depending on what button you use. The ex version ending with some sort of axe like kick at the end to ground you to stop juggles but setup for grabs.

Give her a nice air grab like Adon to that her leg grabbing you and ending up with her kicking the stuffing out of you that has great range. That mixed with nice anti air normals unlike some other people…

Then give her a button charge projectile, that you can’t spam BUT the more you hold it the stronger it gets ala Rog. I am not sure how she would launch it but it would do more hits depending on how long you held it, and the first hit would do different dmg depending on that too. It would be hard to avoid and depending on if you used Punch or kick it would travel at a different speed.

Yeah this little bitch would be broken, she would have Sakura life and I don’t know about the ulta’s, someone help me out and we can figure that shit out later. lol…

I would make a charge character who’s attacks are stronger the longer you can hold the charge. It would be kinda like Megaman in MvC2, or Balrog’s TAP, but it would be based on how long you hold back or down rather than the button.

This character would maybe have some sort of glow or flashing crap around him whenever he reaches a new level of charge.

For turtles like me, it would be nice to have a good payoff for keeping on the defensive for a long time. It would allow for decent damage without having to do hard combos.

Think about this character as someone like DeeJay, Guile, or Remy. Charged projectile, anti-air, and maybe one more move like dread kicks.

At 2 seconds, the move would be weaker than a normal 2 second charge from Guile.

At 3 seconds, it’s about the same.

At 4 seconds, it starts becoming more powerful.

If you manage to get to 7 or 8 seconds, the move gains EX properties without costing meter (these can obviously be added at meter cost by doing the move as an EX if this is a game like 3S or SFIV).

this is easy.

my character only needs 1 button to win

1 frame unblockable thats a full screen projectile and does 100% life

my character would fucking rape! you just can’t really fux wit dat.

You would still lose scrub, make even easier for yourself fuckhead. Just make me put in money and it just goes into your credits so we don’t even gotta play.

I’d make this guy.

I actually filmed a concept design of him and the kind of moves he would do and the quotes he would say. he’s the one who looks like championship edition Balrog

First thing I think of when I see a thread like this is one of the classes from Dungeon Fighter Online, if anyone here has played that. I would use the Asura character from DFO, but instead of single-blade the character would be dual-wielding. I’ll just call the character Kaotical for now!

Again, DFO-Asura character, so look it up on Youtube if you haven’t seen it before. Kaotical would have 1 or 2 hit normal moves, use Ashen Fork (sword dive) as an aerial command-normal, and almost all of his specials would be various wave techniques:
[]Triple Strike: Similar to Genjuro from Samurai Shodown, it’s a 3-part move where he slashes with one sword, then the other, then both as he travels across the screen.
[
]Vacuum Wave: 2 crescent-waves that travels forward (simple projectile).
[]Wave Wheel: Begins with an upward slash; if it connects then ‘grabs’ opponent in a multi-hitting circular saw pattern.
[
]Ground Wave: Similar to Terry Bogard’s “Power Wave”, but reaches higher and travels much shorter; can hit OTG.
[]Release Wave: A counter skill that emits a wave knocking the opponent away.
[
]Ice Wave: Icicles travel across the ground from the swords; a good multi-hitter.

Fire Wave: Full-screen version of my ‘Ground Wave’ but doesn’t reach as high; can hit OTG.
*Ghost Gate Return: Throws a large orb from swords; very large and multi-hitting.
*Burst Wave: Strikes the ground and causes a shockwave that can grab (OTG included, and hits low); if opponent is ‘grabbed’ by this then they are shocked for multiple hits.
*Giant Wave Destruction: Similar to Burst Wave except after the opponent is grabbed they are lifted up and slammed by multi-hitting Ghost Gate orbs rotating in a circle. (I would make it so you have to input this after a successful Release Wave counter.)
hm, well…

to be honest I would like something that plays like Q or Balrog, like someone said earlier in the thread. a mixture of that would be rather nice, with slow, powerful normals like Q, and fast, quick recovery rush punch-like moves. it’d be obviously a charge character, but…come to think of it, the design itself would be tough to make. I mean, what kind of character design would work with such a character? it’d be something like a sloth that gets bursts of nimbleness and strength at times. would work kind of like Cliff from GGX, where his HS(if I recall correctly) would leave him exhausted for some frames, except that it would apply to his specials, not his normals.

its supers would also be rather similar to Q’s or Balrog’s, rush punch combinations and such…perhaps some sort of “buff” move that gives the regular rush punches a zero-frame charge-up? (as in, no need to charge, just hit 46P? and the move goes off). 'course, stuff like that would probably be OP’d, but that’s just my humble two cents on the topic.

I just thought of a cool joke character today. His whole play style and all his moves would revolve around one thing: His nerf stick. The more he hits his opponents the more they become weaker. Moves lose priority, have longer recovery, do less damage, lose combo potential, etc. Imagine bringing down Sagat to the level of servbot, then kicking his ass!

I’ll explain more later, it’s late now and I gotta think more about this character.

Too lazy right now to do one from scratch, but here’s an expanded version of my girl Ashley from my femal fighting game thread. Note: This is still working in progress.

Name: Ashley
Age: 23
Blood Type: B
Eye Color: Brown
Appearance: Fit curvaceous build, wears a pair of low cut jeans, flip flops, a short white top that exposes her belly with a red trimming on the sleeves, collar and the bottom. She wears her hair in a bushy all-natural fashion, similar to Kelis. Wears a pair of ethnic earrings.
Fighting Style: Tae Kwon Do and Shotokan

Bio: Ashley was born in Chicago, IL. Her family was relatively poor, living in the city projects. She first gained interest in martial arts when her father made friends with a local convenience store owner. The convenience store owner was a middle aged Korean man and he had a father who was well experienced in Tae Kwon Do. Ashley’s father always wanted his daughter to be involved in extra-curricular activities, but instrument and dance lessons were way out of their budget and the local school system didn’t support any sports for females of that young of an age, not that he would let her be in one anyway considering the middle-school and high school women’s sport teams had coaches that always seem to end up on the nightly news.
He so decided to let the Korean store owner’s father, teach Ashley Tae Kwon Do. He didn’t even ask for any money as he was lonely and was eager to teach someone, something he hadn’t done in over fourteen years. Ashley became his student and trained with him all up to her junior year in high school. By that point in her life, her father had regained faith in obtaining his long-desired goal and started writing a new novel. When he had finished it, a few months later, Oprah Winfrey made a surprise visit to his church and upon her leave he gave Oprah a a manuscript of his novel along with his contact info. A month later his phone rang and Oprah told him that she was impressed with his book and wanted to invite him and his family on her talk show.

When they arrived at the show, Oprah called Ashley’s father up after she started to talk about a manuscript she was given a while ago by an amateur writer. She told him and the audience how much she loved it and then she brought out a guest appearance by a top publishing agent. With the publicity, Ashley’s father became rich within a few months and their family left the projects. After high school Ashley left off for college for an artistic major. She was offered the chance to study overseas in Japan for a few months and she took the opportunity. It was a few years after she stopped taking lessons from the old Korean man and she longed to engage in the art of battle once more. In Japan she made the effort to look for the country’s most exemplary shotokan karate master. With her father’s wealth, she was able to take lessons under the revered master. These lessons were nothing like the ones with the old Korean man. The shotokan master was strict and brutal. She was treated the most harshly out of all the students for being a black woman and at times she wanted to quit, but her desire to show them that she wasn’t weak prevented that from happening. In result of that she became one of the dojo’s best students in all history. She sparked up to the level of black belt in a mere two months and was able to land three blows on her sensei, when the rest of the class couldn’t land one. She also entered in a national karate tournament and took first place easily.

After she graduated from college with top grades, she started teaching music at an elementary school in her hometown. After her first year of teaching was over she heard word from a friend that an international fighting tournament specifically for women was being held during the summer. She was given the website address and the site seemed suspicious to her, but she still signed up,not because she was interested in the $2 million prize money, but because she was eager to see the number of other strong martial arts women around the world. When she was given the location of her first match, she jumped in her car and headed off.

in general more stuff like this in fighting games would be cool

If I could create a character I would create this guy…

You know… I’ve never seen a character use Taiji Quan before. I have a character named Chi that I want to make a design for in a game, but it’d be a bit complicated considering that Taiji quan doesn’t involve blocking and is only a defensive martial arts.
