The four customs that I’ve built… I’ve used pre-made cases or in the case of the two shitty sticks that Snaaaake made me, I gutted them and rebuilt them.
I don’t want to have that MDF board look, so I was wondering what a good wood to use is.
How do I go about building the support for the top panel?
What’s the best way to get a lexan top to stay down without using screws?
internal cable management? I always see people with these brackets holding their wires down… Where do I get those? I couldn’t find them at three radioshacks and the guys at Home Depot had no idea what I was talking about.
In terms of height, why are the larger ones always slanted? Is there a purpose to that?
Exotic woods are always nice if you can afford to work with them! I think ghaleon’s latest zebrawood stuff looks great! If you’re looking for cheaper stuff, red oak looks fantastic, too!
My stick case is more of a striped/tiger/flame maple, which looks great clear or stained any color you like (mine’s milspec green).
Let the buttons hold it down for you but be aware, if your stick is very wide then you’ll need to make a notch on the side with the stick so your lexan can slide in to it while the other side is held down by buttons. This (and other) method can be found on Slagcoin’s Mount Layering page.
If you have a pic it might help cos I don’t know what you mean either. You can use terminal strips (see Slagcoin’s Termin Strips & Organization section) to help with wiring.
You can also try Zip Tie Mounts which come in black or white and can be painted with Krylon (sp?) should those colors not suffice. The sticky backing won’t hold out for more than a couple months so I suggest screwing it down (theres a hole in the middle). All you need to do after that is get your preferred color of zip ties and tie stuff down, snip the end and presto!
Its mostly preference but in some really thick ones they can end up being much higher than a seating position so to lower them you add a slant. Slanted boxes are usually more suited to standing play while flat are for seated/lap play. Your thickness will depended on the type of buttons
& joystick you use as well as preference. See Slagcoin’s Button Chart & Joystick Chart(Plate to Base) for measurements.
Other than that, read through Slagcoin.com, its a great resource Best of luck!
