Wow, I missed the kof @ evo revival thread… better late then never not that I have any important input on this.
Yeah, kof scene sucks… no real organization… definitely not deserving of an official event at Evo. Though I think what happened at the BYOC was definitely not a failure. For all the unexpected problems, I think it ran pretty damn well, a lot of good work on the organizers of the tournament. Next year’s Evo will be much less of a hassle running any SNK tourney with all the ps2 ports out. And NW is the new hotness, closest cab is 3 hours away and no console release on the horizon…
Nothing official, at least not in the current state of affairs, but man, I just hope you guys dont give up… Hell, I know the shitty state of competition around here, but if I ever see any interest someone has in SNK or Evo, I immediately give them all the info in hopes of growing the scene by one more. Last year was the first try, right? From a fanboy’s perspective (esp a scrubby Kaillera one), it was pretty damn good.
And Jal - we should play some Garou when Im up there next time… or better yet, learn Neowave… cmon, YOU GUYS FUCKING HAVE NEOWAVE… christ! And dont bother with SS5, SS5S way nicer.
And Uncauzi - what exactly do you guys need? I dunno what to say, everytime I pop in theres no action, but if posting there more would help get results, maybe pointing more people there to get shit organized… though its mostly all kaillera contacts…
Content. Honestly, that was our biggest problem and in recent trials of life me and MadCow really don’t have shit/time to dedicate. Staff in general would have helped maybe peeps to do some cross promoting with banners. We’re not graphic designers maybe someone to do cool spreads/writeups on various SNK games with reviews. Pros and Cons. Problems and possible solutions to the problems that are addressed in SNK games. I mean we could talk samsho all day, but we don’t know jack about the rest. As it were, since samsho in general is pretty straight forward except for a few tricks/move properties/dodgeboxes/1 frame hits.
But eh, here’s what you do. You go to fierceslash and then you go here or TZ or even . Is there really a reason to go to FS? Except to DL a vid?
That’s what we need.
FYI we’ll still try and work at promotings tourneys however we won’t have a dedicated web prescence anymore because well…check out the page to find out.
I understand the whole thread thank you, and i undestand no one is bashing kof, the only thing that gets me started is when all those other morons start saying that kof2003 is not tournament worthy cause of Doulons infinite, and i can bet you they dont even know how to play that game.

supposedly Trieu from snk-capcom and Shawn from neo-geo were at least considering sponsoring SNK tournies, but it’s obvious nothing really ever happened with that.
I’ve got all the hardware to run just about any neo fighter you could think of, but we still can’t get much interest in samsho, MOTW, or KOF in our local durham tournies. I think the largest tournout was 8 for MOTW last time.
other than lack of interest from fellow gamers, two things personally prevent me from joining a nationwide SNK tourney scene (if such a thing existed).
one, I acknowledge that I’m not good enough to win said tournies, my skill is above average at best. I’ve won a few SSV and SVC tournaments, but most people hadn’t played the game or didn’t know what they were doing. moreover, it’s less the fact that I’m not currently good enough to win consistently and more that I just don’t spend as much time playing as I used to.
secondly, I can’t afford to make trips up and down the east coast–don’t even think about plane trips to the west–with my current job. of course I’ll be getting laid off within the next few months so that may change.

Because it is not. Why do you keep insisting KOF 2k3 should be used when there is already KOF Neowave. My Korean and Chinese friends already said that Duo Lon sucks man.
**i think one of the major problems is that snk folks seem to want to convert the st masses. we sound like army recruters and jahova’s witnesses. i say let those of us that play the game gather any and every chance we get, instead of just playing. we should video our matchs and drop them online, tourney results no matter how big. there is a seperate fighting game section here. we can do it here. but the number one thing i think we should do is stop trying to pull people to the snk side of the force and instead let them come to us. if you show a person it will always have a better effect from if you just told them.
The ps2 port of kof 2k2/2k3 will be out by evo- those games could be included easily as a side tourney. Heard 2k2 port is not arcade perfect- but then again, I like 2k3 over 2k2 (where I am in the minority), and 2k1 over both of those (Despite the shitty gfx)
In SF equivalents
98 is ST (most strategic and balanced KOF)
2k1 is Alpha 3 (some wonkiness to go with a solid engine)
2k2 is 3rd strike (high quality KOF I happen to despise due to game system)
2k3 is CvS2 (kinda craptastic yet very fun at same time if played for fun)
