SO-GO Bar Fightz Round 3! MIND GAMEZ Nov.28th.2009

Dino: I don’t hate Soul Calibur. It’s one of my favorite games. I just think it has ran its course. Sure people still play it but i really would like for you or any other SC player to try another game. Tekken is as close as you’ll get to SC so when you want to practice for that, give me a shout. I’m not hating, just being realistic. Let’s wait for SC5 with other games.

NeoRussell

I agree with this… It’s hard to say it especially when you’ve put so much work into it… but sometimes when a community has no energy left… you just have to walk away and go to the next best thing… It’s unfortunate… but stuff like Marvel in GTA and STHD are pretty much dead here… it’s almost impossible to build a decent sized tourney around those games now.

I agree though T6 > SC4 for the tourney.

Updated first post, to add that all games will be on PS3 console. Anybody need a 360 for T6/BB/SF4?!?!

Also extended the times to be slightly more realistic. Cut off for sign-ups will still be 3:30PM, so that brackets can be made for 4PM start times. I extended SC4 to start at 5PM since we’ll only take about 2.5 hours.

Nagata - If you think you can make it before 6PM, I do suggest try to make it. I’m sure we can go through the 1st round, plus some of winners and losers before you get there. Maybe we’ll rig the bracket and give you a bye. If you already made other plans let us know.

BTW I’ll need at least 1 person to bring a Setup for T6 and BB. Also do guys somehow prefer 360 for these games?!? LMK

Russel - Just because a game has so-called “ran its course” doesn’t mean we should stop playing it. Hell we should stop playing HDR, I’m sure thats ran its course. Imagine if after MvC2/CvS2 everyone didn’t play 3S because “it ran its course”.

And because I play SC doesnt mean I dont play other fighting games. BB I can care-less about, T6 I’ll play, but havent bought a copy yet. SC4, WILL NEVER DIE!!. I strongly disagree that the SC community has no energy left, or that we should “move on”. Its almost a sign of disrespect in my opinion. Plenty of people play it, we still get good tunrouts for a game thats supposedly “Dead”. I see no reason why I should STOP to play another fighter. Make absolute no sense to me. The only reason you guys think SC4 is dead is beacuse IM THE ONLY ONE KEEPING IT ALIVE!!!

Oh yea I added BB and will likely add HDR. These games can be played from about 5:30-8, a little bit after the other games die down. It will also depend on which other games people are playing. I don’t want to overload the amount of games, but last time we fit BB and HDR in just fine. We’ll see how this goes.

Since I dont have a PS3, just wondering if I would need a PS3 to PS2 converter to use my HRAP2SA =\

better hope they dont card you or else all your gonna be drinking is smoothies and sodas

Updated first post with a reminder about the $5 deposit, which is refunded when you buy food. Any other questions or concerns just ask.

Dino: Playing SCIV casually is fine but competitively IMO is done.
EVO and Nationals are over so the game has ran its “Competitive course”.
We were playing non-stop seriously before because we want to represent our city and country well. We have done that. Canadians are already well known in SC.

Since competition in the states are all but gone, i think its best to attract new players with new and popular games. That’s my opinion. I recommend that you just run 2 Tournaments. SFIV and Tekken 6. This way, we can have casuals after. I’m almost positive we will meet our quota of players to cover the venue. Just run 2 tournament and cap it there. Everybody already knows your a great organizer so you don’t need to appease everyone by adding more games in a short amount of time we have in the place.

Edit: i’m not trying to disrespect you in anyway. I just want to voice my opinion. You know i’m cool so don’t get offended if I said anything that did.

My Vote:
I vote that this tournament only consist of SFIV and Tekken.
To save time and get more casuals in. That I think is the most important.

NeoRussell

hey i have an extra inpin converter i can sell ya

 Wow alright thanks.

This

I dont attend tournaments much so I really wouldnt have too much use for it other than … yea, attending tournaments LOL

Will there be a lot of TVs for SFIV casuals? Because it’d be weird to come, go 0-2 and go home =\

What

SODA?

What is this demon language doing here

everyone got carded at SOGO 2 iirc.

Are underage people not allowed into the venue at all? Or is it that they simply won’t be able to purchase beer/alcohol/whatever?

Yea, it would be awesome to have a section dedicated to casuals. Waiting for hours gets a bit boring… Also, it helps with the warm ups.

That sounds about right.

Girlfriend says…

YES she is coming to keep you fuckers all in line!

Minors are allowed in the venue but will not be able to purchase alcohol. I think I remember Dino mentioning beforehand that the venue wants minors to sit separate from people who are drinking, but I don’t think they really care that much.

Vince didn’t bring me, I brought myself. =p

Here are my two cents on this issue:
I understand that we want to encourage new players to attend these tournaments for all games and that obviously larger communities such as SF and Tekken will draw in more people. I’ve picked up Tekken 6 but I would still prefer having SCIV at this tournament because that is my main game. Even though the SCIV and BB communities may not be as large or “hype” as others, I still think we should run tournaments out of respect for all these players.

Another option: We could begin running tournaments separately. ie. Tekken + SF one week, SCIV + BB among other less popular games (PUZZLE FIGHTER!) another week. That way no community will be left out of having tournaments or a competitive scene to participate in. This route however will mean a lot more work for mostly Dino and I but if he is willing to do this, I am as well. I’m not sure how this would work out due to work and school schedules for the both of us and for attendees but it’s just an idea I wanted to throw out there. (I also have practically a month off of school for my winter break and I need something to do.)

Personally, I put a lot of time and effort into the registration process before and during tournaments. At the two other Sogo events I didn’t have anyone help me so it has been kind of stressful registering people in, sorting out money, refunding money, etc. over a span of at least 10 hours. I enjoy helping out our fighting game communities but it has always been nice having a game there that I play during my breaks. This time I am putting out a request for one or two other people to help me with the registration process that night so I don’t get so burned out. If anything, I’ll bring my own TV and system so I can play something I want to if I have the time.

Sorry for the wall of text.

Emily, Jess and I will help you out as best we can.

I’m going to MM Emily in Puzzle Fighter.

This needs to happen.

Though telling the tournament director to not run his favourite game is kind of iffy .
