This is exactly what we need. I think plenty of us still want this to happen. Manny, we just need this proof.
Until Manny replies with proof of these things, I don’t see why any of us are still posting. Several people have made their comments about how they felt about Manny, for or against him. That’s been said, so let’s let it go.
Ryu4Ever really? You come on board to SRK and have posted 2 posts in total in your illustrious time here and you want to talk about this stuff.
I know Manny personally and I am actually officially part of GPX/AFC now and I can tell you that I am even upset with the whole website thing. To say thought hat it only costs 1-2 for some freelancer to make a site. Hell I can make a site for free, but like MANNY said he was really trying to make a FLAWLESS site with a lot of new things that are incorporated within. That stuff is not cheap.
What you work for that hotel? In the sales and catering dept? Because that would be the ONLY way that you would know that kind of information. So I am going to call B.S. on that.
As far as your comment toward his personal life especially with his wife, you just need to STFU. Have you been in his household and heard what agreement they have or even talked with Manny about this, because he would tell you.
GAMME was schedule before he knew he had cancer so again…
The whole thing with Kunicon (that happened how long ago btw, just let it be already), you can be the GREATEST organizer, con chair, etc and end up having the worst staff ever and the event go to sh*t because of it or extenuating circumstances from multiple angles (hotel, security, staff conflicts, etc).
You talk about his statement being fake. If you know anything about Manny which obviously you don’t, he would not even go into personal things (money, family matters, health) if he was not being serious and sincere. I known him for a long time when he sponsored my show and supplied all crew, systems and tvs for us.
Biggzy: If you did not read the previous replies, he is issuing refunds. So if the tourney doesn’t happen the same thing will continue.
Just remember everyone does make mistakes, I really am going to try to make things right and will get back with everyone as soon as I know something. ~thanks~six~
p.s. Thanks everyone for your support wether it is for manny, gpx or the scene in general much love
I met Manny at the most recent Magfest and he’s always seemed straightforward and trust worthy. There are wayy to many people in this thread bashing him.
Based on my interactions with manny in the past, I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he made a decision that he thought was the appropriate one during the time, to then find out maybe it wasn’t the best possible way of handling it.
I hope Gamme still happens. These random trolls shouldn’t stop you from doing what you like to do manny.
Sabotage and impatience are the things that hurt the most for people building things.
People that forget what they have and get from others. especially when its free. I have owned up to my mistakes here and the consequences are severe. When I hired you, we knew how to run and work with Smash community groups we had been doing it before, we liked that you were hard working and that you were likable a fit with our crew. I looked the other way from the various “things” you did in your personal time to see if you could fit and work with us even though I know you tried to hide it when I first stepped into your house. You got overly drunk at one event and harassed a random person in the lobby, you arrived late to an event when you said you had a ride to Pittsburgh and than expected us to just supply badges and a hotel to this person. which I did without argument.
I helped you with your event when you needed it, gave you our equipment, let you use our trailer, drove people back and forth to an airport and busport that were over an hour away each time. Supported you when you DQ’d Mewtwo King and Jman - eventhough it seemed you were thinking of doing it before it happened you essentially “predicted” you were going to do it - but I supported you on the boards and the entire time you bashed the VG Bootcamp group that was there and continued to do so every time we spoke or they came up. that was a red flag I should have not let go. Each event you worked with us was done with nothing but professionalism. I now also realized the difference between us and Pound. You didn’t work Pound, Tantalus did and so did the other kids and us. at our events, we work them. myself included. so I am sorry that professionalism to you means passing the buck to some kid (albeit Tantalus is amazingly talented and can practically run events single handed) but I understand. you prefer to stand back and yell and bitch when something is not your way so you can blame someone, with us you were training a rookie and had to work hard yourself.
My skill is not to talk my way out of things, I own up to mistakes and hold my ground when its necessary. whether you like it or not I prefer you respect me even if you disagree with me because I won’t back down. Or respect me even if you dislike because I own up to my mistakes.
I am sorry you feel the way you feel, it is your right. The finger you cast does not go far from the body that pointed it.
This times one hundred million thousand trillion ect ect ect ect.
Fuck these haters go do what matter most man.
I want the tourney to happen too and like many others have experienced your work ethic in person(winterfest random will’s pub tourneys here in orlando ect ect.). But it all seriousness you got buisness to handle with the people that you mean more to than anyone here. I retract any semi negative comments i may have made at your expense, and wish you nothing but the best.
Manny. Just show us that the plane tickets for the Japanese players and anyone else who was promised it have been purchased. All we need to see is that the things you’ve committed to occurring for GAMME are indeed occurring and I’m positive that most of the community will give this another chance.
Like I said before guys the event was not cancelled. I am quite angry at how our thread got highjacked and information posted on the top of it stating the things it did, over an issue that I was working to correct.
I posted that I was working on the solution. I have been on the road for almost 2 years, always on the road from one event to the next. sitting here reading all this garbage and smiling at the people that are trying to politely put in 2 cents I have been working on 3 other events and we leave in a few hours to chicago for MWC. none of you can understand how difficult it is - but I dont make an excuse on that because I love my work - my team also know when it comes to issues like this I will post the information. I had crews in the midwest while I was not available and was not able to make the posts myself and I asked a friend to do it for me.
when I came back the pot had been stirred. I could easily just say screw all this, I have in my head and I have been angry over the entire situation, more so at myself than anything else.
but I am still here, I am still reading and posting, and still clicking on the refund button. I am not going to argue or debate with people that think they know anything about the past, that is just asinine.
I want to move on, but some folks here have swayed a lot of people.
I am grateful to those that defending us. I want to wait to the end of the weekend to see if the many that have backed out have requested or emailed to come back. If too many people end up requesting refunds then I may have to pull the plug.
I don’t want to. I want to run the show. I do have a lot of aspects going into it.
I did list the name of the Japanese players Issei was helping us with. I did invite Daigo myself in person and he agreed. I purchase flights through a tour operator I don’t have to do it right away or prices go up, I get them when everything is settled and I needed the other full names from Issei and was waiting on confirmations or changes from the players.
A few people keep telling me “Who gives a crap about these people go be with your family” - personally they are right, I should stop worrying about this and pull the plug.
but its not how I do things. its easy for people to back you when they have no risk involved and say hey those people are awesome! and then when they have something at stake to turn tale and run and claim they were so awesome in the situation and be the voice of reason. Or for people you call friend and work with to help them with their events no longer needs you because they got what they wanted and have someone bigger in their pocket.
I hate how some folks are calling me a liar or are just making assumptions and have never met me while I will give those people very little time, I am essentially here and I posted my phone number if you have any real problems - if your not part of the solution - just shut up and get off the forum. there are people here who want this to happen.
Those of you trying to egg on the issue are only making it worse.
Some of you are creating accounts to create scandal, I guess you have your reasons. for everyone that is walking away, Its easy to walk away
I’m still here.
The last thing I am going to state. at this point if I have to cancel the event, I will in effect move it or reschedule it and focus it more on the guests and expo side of the event, I will bring the gaming we added but I won’t do tournaments and I will let my staff handle it and do what they do best which is build shows.
Ok, things are ever changing. I get it. So, I’m going to politely reiterate the previous questions.
Again, is** everything still a go in the same capacity that you have advertised it?** Thank you for confirming the event is happening, but from what you know, has anything been gimped or cut? (I am of course talking about events planned, but also the advertised pots of the tourneys as well as the anime convention side of things with the panels and guests).
What are the number of refunds that have happened thus far? Is it really enough to cancel the event? The hotel has said plenty of people are still booked, just want to make sure as it would make everyones decision easier.
What is planned for when, and what days? Please, a list would suffice, times would be better. This is dependent on the answer of the first question, obviously. A concrete list would allay everyone’s fears I think.
I appreciate you trying to explain things and give your life story and some of us understand this already, but I feel you would be more effective (and everyone would appreciate it more) if you just got to the point and quit giving the hypothetical.
I like how all the folks that are called “Haters” are also called “Trolls”… LMFAO!
Is it because we are the ones pointing out the FACTS about GPX and how GAMME is the BIGGEST fraud of 2010?
or is it because Manny is so far up your asses that you don’t see the real Truth as to why GAMME is already a flop.
SO haters going to Hate is the only thing you Mannyphiles can say?.. BRILLIANT!!
SO Manny stated that He would take the 5v5 to EVO instead. GTFO!!! Daigo is already going to be there and I’m sure most of EMP will too. I see Manny trying to make it seem that he would be responsible for that happening. You Da Man!
Haters Going to Hate
Damn Man Cancel it already. I’m sure many have asked for refunds anyways. Be with your Fam bro. And as you stated in the above quote. Leave this SHIT TO THE PROS!
Hey since you have less than a year left you’re definitely going out with a bang bro… Fuck people over, take there money, respect, and who knows whatever it is you can mustar up. I bet your Tomb Stone reads: GAMME OVER
Again you continue to talk to make yourself look good UNTIL someone responds and points out that the things you say are not true and are totally fabricated or totally leaving out very critical points.
I was so excited at the beginning of all of this. I did nothing but talk to my friends about this company and the things you were offering me. “What an opportunity” I constantly thought to myself. I worked with you for weeks and weeks without any questioning of logistics or money, which was my mistake. This also never got brought up until I brought it up myself, and that was the beginning or so of when things went sour. Now let me address your statement:
**People that forget what they have and get from others. especially when its free. I have owned up to my mistakes here and the consequences are severe. When I hired you, we knew how to run and work with Smash community groups we had been doing it before, we liked that you were hard working and that you were likable a fit with our crew. You got overly drunk at one event and harassed a random person in the lobby, you arrived late to an event when you said you had a ride to Pittsburgh and than expected us to just supply badges and a hotel to this person. which I did without argument. **
I don’t forget what you did to help me with Pound. Your help came out of essentially nowhere and was greatly appreciated. I will never play down the amount of help you guys gave me at Pound, but that is not where the issue lies. You can’t help someone out and then just do whatever you please and use that one favor as a crutch.
As far as you all knowing what you were doing with Smash community groups, all I’ve ever heard was negative things from the Smash Community towards you all. You say you have a good standing with the Florida community and drop names like HungryBox and frames but then when I talk to them personally they tell me that YOU and GPX totally screwed TODD over, when the entire time from you I heard how poorly organized his events and such. You all did not provide the equipment you said you would provide, yet still asked for all of your expenses to be covered. This is exactly what John said you all were trying to pull at ECT2 also. First agreed on 25 setups, then down to 16, then 8. You tie people in with promises then try to change deals around when it’s too late.
I didn’t get overly drunk at any event. The “random” person I harassed in the lobby, which I later heard you got your information from Roman (oh Roman… about that guy…) was wrong. The only people I socialized with in the Lobby were fellow Smash players. Let’s talk about getting overly drunk.
How about Roman getting overly drunk, and, while I was asleep in my bed at night, hitting me over the head with a pillow as hard as he could screaming “FUCKING SMASH ****, FUCKING SMASH ****”. I felt groggy, randomly dizzy, and out of it the entire next day. I have drank many many times in my life and never felt like that. That is certainly grounds for termination, No? I am offered basically no apology and, from my first event, feel slightly isolated and like I am not part of the team. I continued going even to another event because of how BADLY I wanted this to work out.
. I looked the other way from the various “things” you did in your personal time to see if you could fit and work with us even though I know you tried to hide it when I first stepped into your house.
You looked the other way from the various “things?” I assume you’re talking about smoking weed in my personal time. I tried to hide what I do in my home because it is not legal and you never know how someone might stand on the issue. I have severe ADHD and this is how I medicate myself. Even if the substance doesn’t effect me in a particular way, I know the stigma behind it, and I don’t want someone potentially working with me to get the wrong idea.
Plus, the only time you ever saw my actual bong was when you showed up at my apartment without calling or anything saying you were close, then basically forced yourself inside when I tried to just come out and leave with 3 other people to all use my bathroom when you all weren’t even welcome inside in the first place. You made my girlfriend extremely uncomfortable as she was sick and on the couch completely undressed wrapped in a blanket, then you all just chilled inside standing there while one by one everybody used the bathroom and talked about how you guys wanted to stop at the bards and strip clubs and shit right in front of my girlfriend while she did her best to look entirely miserable. I think Mandy is the only one who even noticed we were annoyed. Good first impression you guys made as a company.
**I helped you with your event when you needed it, gave you our equipment, let you use our trailer, drove people back and forth to an airport and busport that were over an hour away each time. Each event you worked with us was done with nothing but professionalism. I now also realized the difference between us and Pound. You didn’t work Pound, Tantalus did and so did the other kids and us. **
Yes, you guys did help me with all that, and I have expressed my gratefulness multiple times. I “predicted” that M2K might get disqualified because of his history of not following rules or time standards paired with the fact I was going to be very strict with this tournament and everyone being on time. That is a completely logical deduction.
I never bashed VGBootCamp on the boards, only to you in confidence. This is because they did not hold their own at all on the agreement that we had made. Verbal agreements mean a lot to me, but I guess to you all that matters is when it’s written, signed, and can be traced.
To say I didn’t work at Pound is absolutely ludicrous. I ran the entire 340+ Melee tournament on my own while Tantalus ran the entire 180 person Brawl tournament essentially on his own. VGBootcamp was supposed to run the Brawl side so since they did not hold up on their own, Tantalus helped me there.
at our events, we work them. myself included. so I am sorry that professionalism to you means passing the buck to some kid (albeit Tantalus is amazingly talented and can practically run events single handed) but I understand. you prefer to stand back and yell and bitch when something is not your way so you can blame someone, with us you were training a rookie and had to work hard yourself.
You seriously just made an entire statement about yourself and put my name on it. I handled almost all the work myself at Pound, whereas you CONSTANTLY have people do ALL of your work for you. Why couldn’t you change the eventbrite website and fix it? Oh, because you didn’t set it up yourself and didnt know how. Why is the website not up for GAMME? Because somebody else is doing it. Who’s running each tournament at the event? Oh somebody else and somebody else. Who runs your inventory? Somebody else. What do you actually do? You handle the money and get paid. You complain all the time about everybody you work with being late yet you’re NEVER there on time for anything. In fact, your friends joke about you running on “Camacho Time”, a few hours behind schedule always. Never on the ball.
**My skill is not to talk my way out of things, I own up to mistakes and hold my ground when its necessary. whether you like it or not I prefer you respect me even if you disagree with me because I won’t back down. Or respect me even if you dislike because I own up to my mistakes.
I am sorry you feel the way you feel, it is your right. The finger you cast does not go far from the body that pointed it.**
Is it not? you’ve managed to come back on here and convince quite a few people to trust you anyway, without any sort of proof of anything improving. Whenever I ask about anything that isn’t going right, it’s always somebody else’s fault. The convention didn’t set up your hotel room right or you’ve had to fire the web designer blah blah blah times. So hire a good one the first time?
Overall I am so offended that you even act this way. I came into this company with full open arms and ready to work and hell, I was even hoping to go beyond smash and move up in the company. Yet the way the company has acted and been completely non communicative, the way tons of people who are DETRIMENTAL to your success have NO idea what is going on, has driven me away.
You build up your little empire on people that care, but when you don’t care and the people below you care too much about their community to be drug around, your whole little GAMME will fall out from under you.
Maybe I would be a bit less skeptical if I was even paid for my actions as promised, but obviously I have not been. I have had to ask every questional involving pay. How you pay, when you pay, would it be taxed, etc, I’ve had to ask around to figure this out. I was told you pay people through PayPal (strange, my paypal was never asked for) and that you pay on the 1st of the month. So i sent my PayPal to you close to before the end of the month and received no response. When I wasn’t paid on the 1st of the month I contacted people trying to ask and I was simply told “Payroll was pushed back until a deposit goes through”. Convenient, eh?
Everybody needs to stop and relax for a bit. All of this mudslinging really isnt doing any good one way or another. Lets just step back and see how manny decides to handle this and once EVERYTHING is all said and done we can decide how we are going to handle things as well.
All I’m going to say here is that this reminds me a LOT of Soul Calibur IV Nationals. That was also supposed to be the main event of a huge gaming/anime con, have bigger prizes than Evo & top international players, etc…but it turned out to be a disaster on multiple levels (e.g. the pot only being around half of what was promised).
In that case, it turned out that the guy organizing it was using his company to run a pyramid scheme where people would run “lower-level” tournaments and kick back some of the money to “higher-level” organizers/officials. Some longtime respected Calibur players bought into it, became lower-level TOs in this system, and constantly white-knighted him on the forums until people learned too much about the whole thing to believe them anymore.
I’m seeing a very similar pattern emerge here already…
Pound and Manny, as interesting and entertaining your past interactions have been, I don’t think this is the place or the time to be bringing up isolated incidents of both of you guys stepping on each others toes. There is a lot of time and money on the line here for everyone involved, and I think priority should be placed on answering those questions.
Getting into petty arguments that solve nothing and make both of you look bad isn’t answering questions, and this sort of stuff is better suited to p.m’s, or hell a phone call since both of you guys know each other well enough.
Give Manny a chance to answer the questions, and Manny dude, stop making yourself look bad. Get to the point, respond to the questions, and please stop wasting everyone else’s time by delaying the answers with filibustering.
Come on, Manny. While you’re trying to tear Plank down (which is not a good look, by the way), you’re proving his point. You’ve now posted 5 times in this thread and haven’t answered a single one of the pressing questions. What reassurances do people who have bought tickets hoping to attend this event have that things are going to go as advertised? The closest you came to answering a question was saying that the pot bonuses were coming from “sponsors.” What sponsors? Who’s putting up nearly 30 large in pot bonuses and hasn’t gotten a microsecond of exposure to date? Isn’t that what a sponsorship is supposed to be? An exchange of resources for exposure? You said that Japanese players agreed to come, but there’s a difference between agreeing to do it 6 months in advance and being confirmed a month out. Where’s the confirmation? Why is there still no schedule, no itinerary? What about that registration deadline? What about tournaments that still don’t have rules posted, etc.?
I understand you’re busy. However, if you can find time to try to respond individually and personally to every naysayer who appears (with a verbose yet canned “you’re entitled to your opinion, let me now shit on you for 4 paragraphs” response), you would think you could squeeze some time to address the concerns of people who are still considering attending your event–especially those who have paid for plane tickets and are pretty much stuck going regardless of what happens with GAMME. At this point it almost doesn’t matter what your intentions are. Convincing people you’re a good guy isn’t going to get anybody their plane ticket money back if things don’t go off like they’re supposed to, just like liking Duc and admiring his Marvel game doesn’t bring back any money lost in StudioTraffic.
EDIT: follow xybur’s lead, people. We just want answers. All the other bullshit is clouding the issue.
