Thanks for the solid replies, and I’m sorry some of you feel the need to use this as an opportunity to burn bridges. Even still, I wrote a blog on the matter and read it if you like. Thanks for the discussion (some of you)!
I think 3rd Strike best represents his philosophy. I also agree with DV3, but somehow 3S feels much more in line with Bruce’s way of thinking.
To the OP. Don’t worry about this shit dude, this forum is filled, repeat, filled with Trolls. I only come here for updates on upcoming fighters, and strategies given by the few intelligent people here.
Well what did you expect, your post just looked like one big statement like you were just talking to yourself and hoping people somehow catch on and make a relevent input, earlier you said.
And it was true, it’s a wonder anyone made any sense of it at all.
Also after getting the inpretation of this thread’s actual purpose through others, I’d say any well rounded character who can do a bit of everything embodies this the best.
As someone who does martial arts, including JKD, in real life, this guy has a point. While the formless thing cant be used in game due to the game being essentially boxes & frames, his other philosophies work. In Bruce Lee’s Fighting Method, & in numerous other martial arts books, distance is highly considered to be a deciding factor in a fight, as in being close enough to your opponent to hit them, but being out of their range, as well as using fakes in order to get them to put their attention somewhere else. That’s Footsies 101. Also, Bruce Lee considered training to be the most important thing for a fighter. how many pros say you need to work constantly on execution?
you’ve got to be new here. I will fully enlighten you. if you’re looking for information on a game or a specific character within the game and you’re too lazy to find it yourself, SRK can be of use. you’re SOL lookin for anything else. if you discuss theory, expect to get assholes along the way
too complicated of a topic to completely get into, but I will say this: I don’t think “no style” is limited TO specific characters at all, unless a) the character is very limited or b) the way you play the char is limited. “no style” is a good guideline to follow for FGs. you have to know that character pretty well though… and I have no idea what to suggest to anyone to do in order to know their characters in such high depth. just playing the game will help you learn the character better, but it also traps you into using a style. so… I suppose if you want to use “no style”, then you should learn the individual strengths and weaknesses of each attack
If you want “no style”, you should probably not limit yourself to one or a few characters, and instead play all of them…? You can just sit on the select screen and wait for the other guy to choose, then counterpick - doesn’t matter to you what character you choose as you know them all. Ultimate counterpicking.
“no style” can be achieved without playing every char. I despise Bison, Zangief, and Ryu in ST, and yet that was the game I learned it in. it’s more like… how you wanna learn formlessness. each char has a different version of it. Ryu’s was very easy for me and I feel I could get the hang of Zangief’s, but I don’t even wanna try Bison. another person I tried to teach had success with Zangief, but couldn’t with Ryu even if it meant saving his life
Y’all bustas are postin’ in a pretentious thread.
I think this has really been the only constructive post here, and the one that makes the most sense. Someone earlier said Ryu in SF4, which also makes sense cause he’s so damned adaptable.
I also don’t understand the hate in the first page.
You can be like water all you want, Tager’s still gonna 720 you and break your spirit.
sigh
One of these topics…:lame:
i’m curious… why do people post in threads they find lame?
Wow. Hella odd. 1st why the hate towards this particular topic. And 2nd I think this topic is totally valid. EG. Who wins the most- predictable people or people that constantly change? The changers.
Who wins more the people that only play their character- or the people that adapt to the opponent?
Hate to bring my homie Jwo in here but I always enjoyed watching him play mvc2. He is constantly changing and adapting in his matches and over time. ( this is also my game of choice for which game allows such fluidity. I think 3s is a littlle more limited.)
I have personally noticed (and call this silly if you wish) that whenever I got greedy I was punished for it. When all I wanted to do was a cool combo I was not allowed to do it. I would get hit. If I earned my way into position for the cool combo then that was fine. But if I just tried to go for it greedily I almost always get hit. ONe SRK poster has this for his sig; Do not seek;feel, for it will come when it is least expected.
Anyways. After having 10000 conversations tons of players over the years about how FG philosophies can (So easily I might add) be adapted to real life and vice versa, I think this topic is tight. Well done sir.
Thanks, it’s been a really great chat and I got some decent insights. The detractors to the thread still perplex me, as this is a very valid topic. It makes me think that posters who believe themselves to be ''policing the forums" by derailing and flaming certain threads are actually doing so to get off on being callous, regardless of subject. It’s something I’ve known for some time but at least it’s more clear in a thread like this. They can care less about the forums or spam threads, they just wanna hurt feelings and/or feel superior. In this case they fail at the former, and only a moron would believe the latter.
All in all it’s disappointing, but hardly surprising. Nature of the beast and all that.
my strategy embodies the purest zen because i don’t even think about what i’m writing i just post
winn
It’s ok. There is no opponent. Because we are one. When he expands I retract. When I expand he retracts. When he insults I ignore. When the opportunity to insult arises, I do not insult, he insults himself (by his lack of self control and childish flaming).
Here’s a great one.
Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend.
