I’m pretty certain that most of us don’t read the comments on the front page, but that’s the first impression that new visitors get of Shoryuken.com. Letting the front page comments turn into a cesspool of suck isn’t doing the site any good.
It was better when the front page was actually integrated with the forums or when there was no comments at all. Now it’s eventhubs out there.
Personally wish we had it set up like what Jaxel has for 8WayRun where the comments are their own forum thread - meaning it’s easier for folks to infract and ban.
They do this for M:TG articles. I guess there’s too many little random things for there to be a thread about all of them.
Bite me buddy, at this point it’s less about the trolls and more about the fact that the front page is turning into pure virtual sewage.
Hell, I can’t believe I’m saying this but the forums are light years better kept and civilized.
It’s not the Skullgirls threads now either, but hey just pointing it out.
Keep comments heavily moderated or don’t allow comments at all.
You probably think SOPA is a good idea…don’t you?
^THIS.
Front Page is garbage, you’re surprised there’s some garbage ass ‘trolls’ (I hate this new definition of the word trolling where acting like you’ve got asperger’s syndrome and slamming your face on your keyboard counts as trolling) hating on everything posted?
Man what the fuck is wrong with some of you.
No I’m not surprised there are trolls on the front page, I’m surprised that no one’s doing anything about them.
Yeah they’ll come back, yeah giving them attention is bad, but don’t act like the notion of my wanting to enjoy the front page is somehow the problem here.
Disqus was decided upon because linking to forum accounts showed that trolls still mucked about on the front page.
I’m here to point out that disqus has actually made shit worse because it was never this stupid / bad before hand.
If my wanting help on the matter is making me look like a baby then fetch some pull ups and a damn pacifier, but do something about the problem.
It’s a bigger more visible community these days and we’re attracting more griefers/bringing out the crazy in people.
Maybe something as simple as “all new accounts will need to have their contributions moderated/approved first”?
I hate bad/lazy forum software. :\
I used to be the admin of a family-oriented gaming site that attracted a lot of trolls. We did the same thing, which helped out a LOT, as well as enforcing mods or admins to approve all new members and/or requiring that a certain amount of time passed (generally a week) before they were able to post. It was enough of a deterrent to practically eliminate any troll accounts. Unfortunately it did stifle growth for a time, but those who were willing to overlook the restrictions on new members often proved themselves to be good and positive members of the community.
Do you guys make money off comments count anyway? I don’t think you do, do you?
I trust Saotome Kaneda more than I trust the US government. So no.
It has always been like that, dude…
Where the fuck have you been?
You actually think that would work? …lol
It is. lol
You seriously come on SRK for front page?
Is there a reason why you don’t desire all of SRK to look at least somewhat presentable to outside viewers, KingofSarus?
Master Chibi is a relic. You are not. It was definitely not “always” like this.
Like I care.
I’ve always noticed the front page was pure lolshit. There were bashing left and right.
Even before I registered here, so don’t give me that shit.
He just decided to throw a tantrum, because they trolled Skullgirls.
And neither are you.
Yes, the front page was ALWAYS a cesspool, before even 2009.
It was more like a irradiated, barren wasteland, since it hardly ever had any content on it.
Wait, the argument is that it’s worse now than before, not it was never a cesspool.
