So Cal -> Rowland Heights/Diamond Bar/SGV [[ MvC3 ]]

Does anyone know of tournaments, get togethers, casual nights, etc that are held in these areas? I live all the way out here (Rowland Heights)…and don’t really want to drive all the way to the West Side or LAX or the Valley or UCI or etc…(I will if I have too). But I’m just hoping someone can direct me to a more local place, not really looking for tourneys, just some casual gaming/spectating. A pretty new player to MvC3 but loving it a ton, but I feel I can get better if I can play and learn with others, especially with getting advice about the more difficult combos. Alright, thanks a bunch!

hey playground. i’m searching for a weekly casual scene that’s local. anywhere(almost) in the 626 will work for me. i live in el monte, and need to find some people to practice with. i’d like to make it to weds. night fights, but my jobs keep me from going there consistently. are you playing on ps3 or 360? i ask because i play on ps3. i’m building arcade sticks though, and could make one for 360. or possibly 2 or 4, depending on how many set ups we can get going. really interested in doing something locally. we have enough people in our area. just need to find the ones that are willing to meet weekly.

i’m a little older, and used to playing in arcades. this is the first game that i’ve played where you actually have to meet people, outside of an arcade, to get any type of competitive practice. i only have a few friends that play this game, but neither one of them is really putting that much time into it. at the very least i can give you some tips and advice regarding gameplay.

I’m also in the 626 area (Baldwin Park) and have been looking for practice with people. Online doesn’t really cut it for me (input lag issue) and most of the people i know aren’t playing consistent enough for good practice. Its kind of sad AI went out of business with their mvc3 cab. But, let me know if you guys set something up in this area.

if you guys are looking for a place to practice have you tried video 94? AE is only 25 cents and they also have an mv3 cab set up. i go there pretty often with a couple of my friends throughout the week and it can get crowded everynow and then with good players

oh nice i gotta try that place out later. Is there any other place worth noting around this area?

which video 94? i know there is one in el monte, but i’ve never been in that one. there used to be one by nogales high school, is that still there? i see another one in rowland heights on colima. are you guys looking for a weekend session thing, or something during the week?

The Video 94 is the one on Nogales and La Puente right across the street from Nogales High School. MvC3 donation and AE is a quarter. AFAIK there are no other Marvel places in the area.

Thank you everyone for responding, I figured there must be a couple more of us way out “here.”

I play on Xbox, but I don’t have a place to host :frowning: any fun games. I’m a bit older as well, 27, haha, no longer a college kid who can dedicate every waking hour to this game. I feel that’s partially why I can’t make it to all the weekday and Sunday night events, because they run until like 3am, and I need to be asleep for work. Lame, I know. Plus, a lot of my friends either 1. don’t live in the area anymore or 2. don’t play MvC3, so that’s been a huge problem for me in trying to find other people to play with.

Maybe we can check out this Video 94 one night, and we won’t have to be embarassed if we aren’t that good since we’ll know that we’re all looking to just get better with others who also just want to improve their skills. I have never been there so if someone can post hours (I tried looking for it online, but couldn’t find it) that would be super helpful. (If you already go there, let us know when you usually go too).

Does anyone know if Super Arcade in Walnut is still open and has an MvC3 set up? Maybe we can all meet up there and have a game night or something—last time I was there it wasn’t too busy anymore (which leads me to think it also closed, but maybe not).

Damn Round 1 at Puente Hills Mall -> if you’re going to drive other arcades out of business, at least get new arcade games for us to play, and not a gazillion ticket machines so I can spend $3920 for 20 tickets to trade for 2 pixie sticks.

Thanks!

If you guys are looking for casuals there is a lan center I play at for ssf4 and mvc3 all the time in Azusa called DIZeLAN Frag Center. If anything we all can plan a meet up?

Video 94 is open from 10 am to 3:30 am I believe. I sometimes show up if I don’t have too much homework from mon-wed but I’m always there thursdays and fridays.

video 94 is right in front of nogales high school next to the gas station on la puente and nogales

hours are from 10am till about 3am in the morning so they’re open pretty late

me and a couple of friends are usually there in the afternoon until around night time maybe even later if were not busy with school then next day

BeeJay-What is a lan center? Are these like the places people used to play Counterstrike in the days of old? So they just have a lot of console and/or computer set ups with games and people just take turns playing (paid by the hour)? Do they have controllers/fightsticks available or is it BYOStick?

I found the Yelp for it (with times): Dizelan Frag Center - Azusa, CA

Thanks! Sounds like that could be a fun casual place to hang out and play too. Yeah, this place seems pretty cool and low key.

I think I’ll try to stop by either Video 94 or this place tonight after work (past midnight) anyone else thinking about going, which one/preference?

video 94

sounds like video 94 is open during the right hours. i can’t make it tonight due to work, but if someone can let me know when would be a good time to gather, i’ll try my damnedest to make it.

i know super arcade is open, just haven’t been there in a long time. i was pist when they took my x-men vs streetfighter out. not sure what the set up is like now.

if you guys wanna try and meet up at one of these places, during the week, or weekend, let me know. also, let me know if i need to bring my own stick, i got a few in the works. thanks everyone.

I tried hitting up video 94 today and the mvc3 cab is nice. There were only 2-3 people playing though. It would be nice if someone plan a time to meet up =). Just wondering, is there a lot of people that play at DIZeLAN? I really want to get some practice going.

Headed to Video 94 now, I’ll see how it is also (it is a bit closer to me than DIZeLan)…maybe next weekend we can set a time to meet up at one of these two places

Alright I went to Video 94. It’s a small place with 1 MvC3 cab (but running on a PS3), 2 Super SFIV Arcade Editions, Tekken 6 and a Street Fighter IV. It’s a quarter per play (on a donation system).

I was there from about 12:30-2:30am, and there were about 9 people at it’s max and 3 and it’s min, but most were playing SF4 and only on the MvC3 between turns, so it seems like a good place for us if we want to play MvC3. People were generally friendly, but as usual mostly chatted with the people they came with (I went alone).

So yeah, anytime next weekend do people want to make a trip to Video 94? (I will try to check out DiezLan also in the near future and give an update on that).

General notes: Plenty of lot parking, not a sketchy area, they sell some snacks/smokes/drinks but there were some local fast food joints that were still open close by. Also, it’s close to a freeway (60) which is nice for people who don’t live too close by).

@Playground Bully - The hours listed on Yelp were not up to date. The general rule throughout the week is 4:00PM to 3:00AM. More often than not, we stay past 3:00AM.

We do have a few house joysticks for patrons to use, mainly for the Xbox 360 platform. All the hardcore fighting game players here either bring their own, or have them stored here at the center. Currently, we do have one PS3 setup, but as of late, the Mortal Kombat demo has been our focus on that.

@theaznshumai - We have our share of players, and we’re always on the lookout to welcome more into the fold. If you want to level up, then you most likely want to play with BeeJay and all the gamers he plays casuals with. You can PM him, but the best way to contact him is via Facebook. Whenever I plan a fighting game event, I do so with him because he brings in all his other SRK friends spread out all over SoCal.

To save you time and gas and ensure that you’re coming in at an ideal time for casuals on MvC3, you can check out the status of the LAN at www.facebook.com/dizelan or Joe_the_Pwner (DIZeLAN_Slayer) on Twitter. Every hour or so I update the status to give viewers a sense of what games are being played at that particular time.

Otherwise, you can give us a call at (626) 334-8600.

Quick question about DIZeLAN: For MvC3 casuals, and I mean like rudimentary MvC3 player levels, would this be a welcoming place? I don’t want to get in the way of people who want some real competition, because I’m still trying to get into the scene (and learn to be a better player) so is there a time/day (or even like a program of sorts) for new players to learn basics/get tips/etc? Thanks a bunch! I definitely want to check this place out, but maybe not at peak MvC3 times when I’ll be laughed at, feel self-conscious, and then brood silently in the corner. Thanks!

@Playground Bully - Yes, I think our local fighting would be to your liking. They’re a friendly bunch. No douchebaggery to worry about. Peak times for MvC3 would be between 10:00PM-2:00AM. As I mentioned before, either give me a call, or check the status updates on Twitter and FB.

video 94 this friday

playground, do they have sticks at video 94? can i bring my own? my friday night is free this week, so i’m definetely gonna try that spot out. hopefully i can make it to dizelan next week.
