Snowboarding

I’m thinking about buying this. I tried on the boots at the snowboard shop, and the boa locks are fucking nice, don’t have to deal with laces. But I didn’t buy them at the shop cause they were charging $180. A lot of the boards in the shop are like $350-450, bindings are anywhere from $100-150. I think this is a good deal… but I wanted your guy’s opinions. What do you think about the board/bindings?

I’ve only been snowboarding 3 times, but I can link my turns. I wanna try going down some steeper runs and get started on the blues. Thanks

i just went snowboarding my 2nd time. I went to heavenly at tahoe. I didn’t do too bad this time! I’m thinking about getting a board n boots because I really want to go at least 1 or 2 more times this season and hopefully every season to come. This time when I rented, I tried snap-ins and i really didn’t like it compared to the straps I had last time. Is there a difference? I fell less this time, but I feel like I had more control and maneuverability with the straps.

IMO, Rossignols are decent for beginners. But i would look into the board more, from the ebay listiing it doesnt say much. (ie does it have a sinstered or extruded base - go for sinstered). Single sidecuts makes the board have a sharper, more aggresive turn.

I cant tell you anything about the boots/bindings. Just make sure that the boots are comfortable and something you can walk/ride in for a few hours. Good bindings are almost as important as the board, do you prefer soft/hard bindings.

This is alot of stuff to consider when you start boarding. When i first started i never really cared so i just bought a random board combo just to learn. It wasnt util this past year that i spent time researching and finding everything that i needed. But i think you should search snowboarding websites to find out. I stand by sierrasnowboard.com and snowboardingforum.com for good information. I have spent some decnt amount of money at sierrasnowboard.com because they usually have good deals and carry a wide selection.

The snap-ins are not responsive. Plus they feel unsafe cuz it feels like im gonna fly out of them. The straps do give more comfort and control. The company “Flow” have their step ins, which is a giant covering which you just step in and lock into place, heard they are pretty good, but its all preference.

I just got back from Brian Head Resort in Utah. 8 hr drive both ways to and from San Diego. I gotta admit that place was amazing. Wide open terrain, good for all levels of boarders. But it is not a place for people who are looking for the park. Its more for all mountain and free riders. But it was good nonetheless. Been trying new setups with my back bindings and it cant find anything good. The new settings completely messed me up on jumps and i ate hardcore shit everytime. But since the snow was insanely fresh and soft, it didnt hurt a single bit.

HAY GUYZ, RESURRECTING OLD THREAD

Anyone looking forward to winter yet? This wait is killing me.

Tell me about it. My brother just spent 400 bucks joining a ski/board club that lets him use their cabin/hotel anytime he wants up in Mammoth.

Oh hell yea I am buying a season pass for that place. It has been over 6 years since I’ve been there. Only need to go 5 times to have it pay for itself.

Good thing you brought this thread back, it reminded me that I need new lenses on my goggles. I was told to buy those padded compression shorts for football players, it cushions your hips and ass when you fall. I also plan to get a helmet (I banged my head hard last time I was up) and those spine protectors that motor guys wear.

Can’t wait to get some air again.

BTW if anyone is looking for NOMIS wear check out The Butter Box - Home Page

Fuck yeah, I am gonna go snowboarding for the first time this winter! Can’t wait. Any tips for newbies like me?

Enjoy waking up the next morning in pain.

Planning on going to Whistler this winter with some friends.

been waiting since last season ended. I can’t wait. I bought another board so now I have 3 total. Need to buy another pair of bindings and a soft shell jacket soon.

I was planning on going to Whistler this season too, but I recently quit my job. I don’t have the funds anymore :frowning:

Don’t fall on your wrists.

Have fun spending the first 2-3 days on your ass, but after that it’s easy to pick up the basics.

I personally started out skiing, moved to snowboarding, and then went back to skiing again but I pretty much only ski park now.

Also planning to go to Whistler this season haha, went there a few years back during spring break, dumped 6 feet over the course of the 6 days I was skiing there just thick powder all week long it was amazing, and the park team managed to keep the parks clear and skiable at the same time, the parks are fantastic.

MY BOY T RICE!

start doing lots of push-ups and sit-ups now. both are similar to getting up after falling down. try doing them with a snowboard and boots on.

Just a little over a month till Lake Louise opens for business. Can’t wait.

Just moved to Anchorage, can’t wait to tear up Alyeska

I’m also gonna be a Never Summer SL. Probably the only the new piece of gear I’m buying this Season.

dont fall forward learn to fall backwards. karate break falls are great for learning to fall in snowboarding. i know its different but i learn alot on turning and controlling the board from skateboarding.

Love Mammoth! I miss that place like crazy… hopefully I’ll have some time to make it out there this winter. $1200 or whatever for a pass is crazy though, unless you can get in on the MVP somehow.

I’m paying $1,000 for my ski lease this winter in Tahoe. Shit should be off the hook with a hot tub and bbq grill and all that, but damn, $400 is a mad cheap.

Yeah - confidence is everything. It’s hard, but don’t be too wary just standing up straight or you’ll fall right down. Expect sore muscles and bruises. If you can go a few days in short succession, you should get the hang of it pretty quickly.

Despite me being out of school, I can still somehow get a student pass for $600.

There should be a SRK snow day to Bear mountain or something. I need to spend at least two sessions on boarding normal (I ride goofy). Which could be a great day for new riders since we can both learn together.

Ahh just noticed that 32 is from San Fran. But there should still be a SRK snow day.

Yeah, I used to live in LA… been meaning to visit for a while now, since I moved back to the Bay Area (where I grew up).

SRK snow day would be sick, either NorCal or SoCal. Bear is dope too though, for all ability levels… cuz even if you’re riding greens and blues with beginners, you can still hit rails and all that.

I went snowboarding for the first time yesterday. My entire body is hurting but it is fun. I learned how to do the falling leaf.

What’s the falling leaf? I can teach you the faceplant in return.

Anyways I got hooked to snowboarding just last Christmas, fell on my ass so many times the first 2 days I swear I grew a third buttcheek. Afterwards I bought a board with bindings from my friend for $30 and a winter jacket/snowpants for $54 from another. All I need now are snowboard boots which I’m trying to get for small change also. (yes, I’m a cheapskate)

There’s this ski resort an hour away from our metro area that’s offering an unlimited ski pass throughout the winter for $32, hopefully I can get a few friends to go with me and find my boots by then, having to wait for size 10 rentals is a bitch.
