Kasumi, low? I’d like to hear your reasoning for that.
Also just realized that this thread is in the strategy section and no-one has discussed strategy…chuckle. We should have put this tier-list discussion in General Fighting Game discussion…
Not like any of these posts matter since no-one plays this.
other than those comments, its near perfect id say. mainly the ones im questioning is because ive never seen anything too solid with them. please feel free to correct me. i love this game and wish it was taken a little more seriously (or i had a computer good enough to run it )
I play shiki on this once in a while. One of the very few arcade machines we do have where I live.
Well, Shiki is definitely above low or low-mid tier. I’d say upper mid or above. She might take a little bit of work thou. Its true she cant compete in a close range poking game but her teleport will evade 100% percent of anything. + she can do mid air dp. + not to mention the easiest super cancel able command moves.
I’ve played the game enough offline and onlinle to know what gimmicks and crap people have used. I have some old SvC Chaos replays from my xbox way back when I was more into the game. I’ve played a good number of Mexi-cali players and some of the good fobs here in Cali, that play it every once in a while. I do agree more with Tech Romancer over Gridman’s list.
I would gladly show you online if you want to get some matches why Chun is goood.
Where the hell is acidglow in this thread o.O??? I thought he’d be the first to respond to this He’s practically married to this game >.< (i was his best man)
Fuck, I’ll get my SNK freaks together down at DSC and record some matches on the Xbox version (although not before I get some goddamned Wild Ambition matches). Really wish I had the stuff from Germany, though…My friend Reggie was hardcore. :wonder:
I like the game. I’m just saying its not tourney viable, so why even bother saying that the boss characters don’t matter? The most commonly played version is mame now, not pure arcade and its open season.
Buktooth has a FAQ on Chun-Li on Gamefaqs. Been there for years. Not sure how dated the info is, but it should be current. Seeing as the game probably hasn’t evolved very much since that FAQ was written. According to him, Chun-Li is the best non-boss character in the game, and Guile can counter her.
I know it was a prevelant theory that the boss characters were always better than the non-boss characters. These tier list seem a bit more diverse though, and don't indicate any real dominance from boss characters. Not really sure about that one though.
Dhalsim, the character I played with is very bad in this game. Drills suck, easily telegraphed and punishable. And due to issues with hit boxes, sometimes Dhalsim mid screen pokes don't register as a hit (did people forget that hitboxes are really inconsistent in this game?). Dhalsim df+C hit 3 times, but God have mercy on your soul if it's blocked.
The only thing Dhalsim can really do is throw fireballs, and try to GCFS and then possibly throw. That about all he has in this game. Now granted, his fireballs are really good, but he has almost 0 offensive options. His limps are really laggy, and just isn’t suited for this game art style. Oh year, and if you get in on Dhalsim (which isn’t hard) he is cross up bait. His has no really good anti-airs. Jab of doom is usless, b+B is slow. b+D is still okay, but a lot of jump-ins beat it.
Yoga legend does damage but has no range. drill super does chip, but it doesn’t matter because when it’s blocked your ass is grass.
By far, one of the most embarassing Dhalsim apperances to date.
I really do not like this game at all. Too me, it feels like I’m struggling to control my character half of the time. Not sure what ANYONE sees in this game. I have a friend who worships this game however. And after a good training section of rapoing him in Alpha 2, ST, and 3s, he begs to play this game. I refuse to play this game in the arcade, because I refuse to pay money to be disgusted.
He plays Terry, and Terry appears to be good for the following reasons.
j+D has a good angel, great for crossups. Seems pretty safe on block, and can begin a lot of pressure for him. And umm, j+D does fucking ridiculous damage for a normal. It also links into his s.C, which can be cancelled into anything, including a super.
And while we are on supers, Terry's buster wolf does really really really good damage. And did I mention that it is instant, safe on block, and unpunishable. It's also mad risky to GCFS through it. Terry hit box also seem retarded, as it seems hard to hit him.
His exceed sucks, true enough, but he has other retarded shit. At least he owns Dhalsim in this game.
At my arcade people abuse Earthquake, and frankly I'm not impressed. His mix ups are very easy to get around. I can't see why anyone would struggle with him, unless you guys know something that I don't (which is likely since I really don't like this game).
Well said. I knew he wasn’t great, but didn’t delve deeper because I am not Dhalsim player. Would you tier him lower than Dan?
Another general question I have is: Is there a Playstation 2 version of this game, or was it scrapped or something? Because I could really use the PS2 format controller. Xbox controller sucks.
I just tried to play this game again on FBA out of curiosity, and man using charge characters sucks. I picked Guile and I couldn’t do flashkicks 90% of the time.
Yes there is but I think it was only released in Japan but I could be wrong. I just remember most people were using the Xbox version since it had online play. Sim isn’t too bad it’s just his normals aren’t as useful as they whould be like in the capcom games.
You have to charge d/b and then up. Yeah charging in this game really blocks. Not that the Flash kick doesn’t suck in this game anyway. Guile has 1 second sonic booms, very fast, and hard to get around. It’s hard to get them started, but not even GCFS can get around the zoning.
Tech Romancer:
While Dhalsim does suck in this game, understand he is not low-tier. He beats Vega, Bison, Hugo pretty convincingly. If anything he’s about even or very close to Ryu and Ken. He’s good for what he is, which is basically a gimmick character, but he has no tools to hang with the top tiers. Although I do give Goentiz players a hard time occassionally.
There is nothing Dan can do to Dhalsim. The SFA3 matchup is better than this one.
I don’t mind if its NTSC-J, as I own a boot disc and play Jap versions of GGXX AC, SS Tenka, etc. anyway. But its either the Jap version or I search for a better Xbox second party controller. I’d rather have the PS2 version at all costs.
terrys good, he has good pressure with jD and sD and if he gets maxmode he has agreat block string
its something like jD, sC,qcf+ppXXd_u+pxxdp+k into some other stuff.
i remember a handful of max combos
Okay, I’m just curious from a more focused point of view, as I wanted to see if I should change my tier list or not.
I built my tier list from the hundreds of casuals back in Germany, the reports I read up on when the game was in its “beta” runs after its release, tourney matches and of course my own experiences. But I don’t play every character so I may miss some stuff.
Well this game is hard to tier beyond the undisputed people, and that’s basically Geese and Zero.
Basically what this game is about is anyone who can out turtle his opponent and build meter quickly. Maxed out meters in this game means tons of damage options. So naturally anyone who can build free meters will generally be good in this game.
The only reason why Geese is good is because he can build up meters for free and get to max mode pretty damn fast. If you attack him, he can block you GCFS and he has an infinite. Geese is very dangerous and incredibly hard to lock down.
Zero can do it as well, but it's not as easy as it is for Geese. And i honestly have never really seen Zero's game, beyond theory fighter. I've personally seen Geese at work. Everyone is free when you're using Geese.
Lower tier people like Vega, Hugo, Bison, Choi, and Kim are where they are because they have Nothing. They have no zoning, and are ate up by GCFS tactics all day. They also can't build meter fast enough. I know Kim has some sex ass Max mode combos, but you'll never get full meters against anyone half way decent anyway. Choi is garbage in this game. He's just meant to be annoying, but his bullshit always catches up to him. His Exceed and DM are useless.
I agree Kasumi shouldn’t be as low. While she is GCFS bait, she can build meters safely, and in theory she has damage options because she can combo into her exceed.
Oh and I’ll write up while I believe Hugo is completely garbage in this game.
