SNK vs Capcom SVC Chaos

what about kasumi? She has pretty good attacks

Tessa has an unblockable setup with her ghost projectile while she crosses up with her jump D. Then again I dont really us Tessa so I could be wrong on the actual setup. Besides all that she is still pretty good but I wouldn’t say she is tops either. I would say for Shiki it’s hard getting an opening on a good defense player but even then it just depends on how well the Shiki player knows the match ups. Even though this games balance is pretty bad I still enjoy playing it from time to time.

Not to mention it was pretty much a rushed game from SNK at the time. I remember reading that they still had the contract to use Capcom characters but time was running out. So in the end they rush the game before the contract expired to get something out for profit.

Shiki’s mix-up game is insane. In most any other game she would easily be top-tier, but in this game she’s around a solid mid which just shows you just how broken this game is.
Her command throw is stupidly good. It’s faster than it is NGBC and is comboable. Her f+A and f+B chains are stupidly good too.

What keeps her from being top is her reliance of close-range combat in game with some many characters that can keepaway, GCFS and punish, etc.

– God Tier –

*goenitz

  • Demitri
  • Violent Ken

– Upper mid –

  • Guile
  • Tessa

  • Orochi Iori
    *earthquake

– Mid tier –

mars people especially, they arent good.

– lower-mid tier –

  • Shiki
  • Dan
  • Choi (maybe not)
    – low tier –
    bison
    vega
    sagat
    balrog

the rings arent unblockable dude. i promise. good luck ever hitting one of his dms. incredibly situational. sagat is shit dude. goenitz is the ultimate zoner no doubt but you CAN get in on him and once geese and zero do, good luck getting the fuck out. boss characters (RA, athena etc,) arent playable in arcade so… tessa has sick keep away and a pretty dirty infinite dude. i dont know what game you’re playing. a solid earth quake is annoying too man… slow fart + that teleport and insane splash thing. the only thing against him is his size. ever hit his standing d? that kick is broken good.

ps: this is a very quick list. im sure im missing a few names from the top tier list but all in all its a pretty solid and good direction.

Why have you listed Terry twice? In top and upper mid?

oops. i copied/pasted his list and quickly edited it. terry is upper mid. hes VERY good and solid but cant hang with goenitz and the like

Tessa infinite? I’d like to see this infinite. That Earthquake stuff is hella unsafe and I know because I’ve played good Earthquakes that tried that on me. Chun should be Upper mid cause her command grab and mixups are too good. Not to mention she has probably the best cross up in the game.

i always found this game very fun, and very underrated in that ‘fun’ sense - although it’s not terribly balanced, it has enough positive elements to make it at least worthy of rebalancing to improve it with a sequel/patch etc. was kind of sad that never happened :frowning:

Dude, seriously your list sucks. The fact you haven’t listed people like Shin Gouki already makes this list incomplete, because whether you want to believe it or not they’re able to be used, either with a simple code (console, AES versions) or simply be holding the trigger (console versions). If you’re gonna tier the game, tier the game; there are no tournament standards for this game since its already not competition viable. Quit leaving them out.

Earthquake has a lot of nice stuff at his disposal, fart projectile is awesome at zoning, his Fat Guilty DM being an overhead and his warps are great assets. But he’s very punishable, vulnerable to cross-ups and it’s not always easy to get him out of pressure.

Sagat is solid, enough said. He may not have his picks and control like in CvS2 but his fireball wars are still solid, his tiger uppercut still pwns, solid bnb, can combo into his Exceed, etc. His Tiger cannon punishes well.

No-one really sucks in this game; its just the good people are really, really abuse-able; for example Goenitz can’t really be dealt with by a lot of characters unless you have a teleport, some kind of multi-hit projectile (Shin Mr. Karate’s Chou Haou Shikou Ken) , fast-recovery projectile (Guile Sonc-boom).

I’ve made a revised tier-list based on the info given to me on Tessa and Shiki, but everything else should be correct:

– God Tier –

  • Athena
  • Red Arremer
  • Shin Gouki
  • Shin Mr. Karate
  • Goenitz

– Top Tier –

  • Geese
  • Zero
  • Orochi Iori
  • Mars People
  • Demitri
  • Violent Ken

– Upper mid –

  • Guile
  • Iori
  • Terry
  • Shiki
  • Tessa
  • Chun

– Mid tier –
Everyone else

– lower-mid tier –

  • Dan

BTW, I just checked the Mars people “Not Independence” in training mode. It IS unblockable. The only way to avoid the rings is to position yourself in the middle of them, get past Mars People at start-up or use some sort of teleport. Mars People still rapes.

why is Zero top tier? care to explain that to me?

Wow…

Well, if you want to be specific, he’d probably be at the middle of top tier. First off his pros include being able to zone/heal/attack with the cyber elf summons, second he’s a pumped up Iori as he can hit confirm his rekkas off almost any of his (fast) normals - even Orochi Iori can’t do that. His Spiral Shot DM eats other people’s DMs (even some Exceeds) for breakfast. His command normals are mad good (3-Dan Zuki FTW, which can be canceled to Rekkas btw), his ability to charge stuff while he does other things is good, and his charged attacks negate a lot of other stuff. Also anywhere cancel semi-infinite’s in MAXIMUM mode.

His cons are that his constitution is third worst in the game, after Gouki and Serious Mr. Karate; just touch him and he’s out. He can combo well, but his damage output is below average to balance this. He has no reversal and no real invincibility on his moves.

Why is Goenitz above Zero and Geese? And Mars anywhere near the top? And I thought Chun was the best of the non-boss characters.

Chun Li is good, but there are better non-boss characters. Someone else can elaborate more because I didn’t like using Chun Li. As far as Goenitz, his keep-away with that tornado column is nearly flawless for keeping people away. He can peg people with that and slowly chip away at their health and it cancels out projectiles. Of course, if someone like Geese or Zero gets close to him, he’s done, but one has to get through that tornado trap.

Doesn’t GCFS own tornado zoning?

i already said boss characters arent in my list because they arent playable in the arcade. its like throwing gill or st akuma into a serious tier list. we know theyre leagues better than anyone else in the game.

good luck ever getting in on a solid earthquake.

his tiger cannon is fucking slow as shit. fireballs are near meaningless in this game (besides goenitz) cause you can just fucking dash through them. sagat is slow and lanky and big. he cant zone at all.

get in on goenitz once and its over. he doesnt have anything up close. granted getting in on a good goenitz player is really hard but it can be done. theres a video on youtube of a jap tournament where a guile player beats a goenitz.
I’ve made a revised tier-list based on the info given to me on Tessa and Shiki, but everything else should be correct:

whatever, its not like the rings are unstoppable. i knew there was a way around them wether it was blocking them or staying in the middle of them. mars people dont have any kind of combo into DM or exceed and are slow. they’re a zoning character that doesnt do it to well.

Viscant’s tier list I got from another forum.

I don’t agree with either of your lists, but his is still better than yours.

Basically.

Goenitz is good, but you are COMPLETELY overrating him.
Putting him on the same level as the 4 God-broken Final Bosses is total retardation.
Ranking the 4 Final Boss on the tier list is equally retarded, since they’re obviously better than everybody else and were never even playable in any standard versions of the game.

Goenitz’s normals suck and he has no combos that don’t involve his QCB+P. None of his DMs are comboable. He has no effective lows. He has almost no comeback ability once he is behind because he has no way to pressure the opponent into making a mistake.

It seems a lot of you never played this game back when it first came out when even top players were playing it (for about a month).
Chun is definitely the best non-boss character in the game.

oh yea theres his sick gunshot with like zero recovery and he has a really easy infinite thats an aa

outside of bosses i though guile was the only character to give chun problems
she has near one whole health bar combos with or without meter
gdlk air game
can go under fireballs
really meaty df+rh that crosses/mixes up far more than ST
a COMMAND GRAB that leaves the opponent open for ANY combo chun feels like doing
if she GCFS and does dp+k, the dp+k is unblockable
kick super punishes just about everything

edit:shiki, yea thats about right, but guile beats chun pretty good, its insanely hard to get in his lp fireball,hp fireball zoning is annoyingly hard to get around

and for some reason vega beat terry pretty hard, he had like no tools to keep vega from hitting the skies and vegas dives and flying claw went through everything (even power geyser)

My boy Reggie back in Germany played a solid Earthquake and beasted with him. I’ve never had too much problem with Earthquake’s zoning. Throw-mix-up games can destroy Earthquake. I work just fine thanks. If this were the truth he would have been abused in the early Chinese/Korean tourneys long ago.

“Goenitz doesn’t have anything up close”. True. His strength is keeping away but just because you get in, doesn’t mean he’s done. He’s got great constitution, rekkas, grab DM, one of the best Exceeds in the game, etc. But yeah, once you get in…

I really wish I had saved matches of our casuals in SVC from Germany, because you don’t know what you’re getting if you say Sagat can’t zone.

I’ve seen that Guile match against Goenitz player. I already noted how Guile can shut down Goenitz.

“Dash through fireballs?” You mean GCFS (Guard Cancel FrontStep)? Yeah, that weakens a lot of the zoning properties in this game, but its not free, you still need meter to do that, and a lot advanced strategies work around Just canceling attacks to bait that sort of thing. I will say though though that GCFS, among other things, is part of what breaks this game.

I made other points on Mars People and why, exactly he is good. Apparently you missed that post. In fact, all the midbosses pretty much categorize top tier, except Dan and even he doesn’t outright suck.
