Do you have another assist? Like one where you would OTG with Wolverine’s :df:+:m: and let the assist hit?
Hi guys,
TLDR at the end =)
I’m a (let’s say experienced) Street Fighter IV player, just got UMvC3 and chose to main Wolverine (I used to play him in MvC2 so… natural choice!)
I’d like to have your opinion on one particular aspect.
I’m not used yet to UMvC3’s physics (I’m still bad there, I find the physics “too heavy”, with sloooow jumpins… I’ll get used to it eventually) so I don’t really know how to open the opponent’s guard.
My team is Strider/Deadpool/Wolverine (Deadpool cause he’s the most awesome character ever, Strider cause he’s also soo stylish – and yes, character style matters a LOT in my choices ), I don’t have any trouble at all for example with Deadpool 'cause he has good zoning tools, an overhead, and a cancellable slide.
However I have some trouble with Wolverine.
I can’t find a way to efficiently pressure my opponent, and open his guard. I feel like him crouch- blocking - doing advancing guards whenever I start something will end up in me not doing anything.
Jump - 3.Drill Claw seems nice but sooo unsafe.
Otherwise, I’d just dash, slide but it doesn’t seem like I can connect anything, or cross-down Berserker Slash but again, without any combo possibility
Too bad cause I really like Wolverine’s combos: nice, easy and damaging. It’s probably the first time ever I find damaging combos by myself without even looking at this forum =) .
So how do you guys usually play him? Any insights on how to open the opponents guard?
As a SF-IV addict (and moreover Ibuki player), I’m used to rely heavily on mixups, ambiguous crossups and mindfucks. Unfortunately, it does NOT seem to be the Marvel way of fighting =)
Thaaaanks!
TLDR: How do I open the opponent’s guard with Wolverine?
Berserker slash + iron fist Y ( wall bounce ) assist is the best side /side mix up btw.

@Damascus
well i didnt read any of your post really but the first thing id recommend is switching your team order to wolverine/deadpool/strider. strider vajra assist, deadpool otg assist. wolverine anchor is garbage compared to wolverine with assists
Thanks ataconazy, I played a bit and I also realized that I can’t seem to find any reliable guard opener without assist for Wolverine
can someone lemme know the framedata on blocked berzerker slash, berzerker charge? I never know how minus i am to their cr. L
it seems like -3 or something?
I realise this sounds like a really newbie question, but I really need help.
Whenever I do a standard Wolvie B&B (ground chain, launch, MMH drill claw, dive kick, H S, MMHS), I can’t seem to get Wesker OTG assist out in time to extend it into a tornado claw, fatal claw finisher. Wesker always comes out too late to hit the grounded opponent before he recovers.
I’m already mashing the assist as soon as I land, so what am I doing wrong? Should I drop some hits from the combo before that? I can OTG with df+M into another assist (jam session, tatsu, etc), but calling out an OTG assist doesn’t seem to happen fast enough for me.
I don’t actually use that myself but it sounds to me like you have to MMHS or MMLHS later on so that you land faster after the S. The later the S, the larger the window for Wesker to come in.
Instead of MMHS try MMLHS. That extra hit will give you more time on a hard knock down.
quick question. When i do BnB Mid screen seem like after i do the combo before relaunche i land infront or behind. Is there a way i can make sure i land infront everytime. I would like to go into Weapon X from time to time to close out a char, my reaction isnt good enough to determine what side im on in time. Thanks in advance.
For that you will probably just have to learn to see it when it happens. You could also try landing and doing H xx H Berserker Barrage (Mashed) xx Weapon X. The H should give you enough time to confirm the side you are on and the B. Barrage (mashed) gives you a soft knockdown so they won’t tech out until they hit the ground. It’s extra damage and makes it an easier confirm.
Still, I’d suggest finding an alternative to this because usually you can combo into Fatal Claw and DHC into something else and do more damage than his level 3 does.
Are you talking about after the dive kick? If so… to land in front all the time you must slow down on your air normals.
A follow up vid looking at the TAC from Wolverine to Dormammu and just how silly it is. Rediculous damage:

Is the tornado claw > fatal claw > tornado claw > fatal claw combo exclusive to having wesker assist? I play Wolv/Dante/Akuma and can’t seem to figure it out.
Edit: nvm, got it. It’s possible with both.
Ah, that seems to work. I do get that little bit more window of time to have Wesker’s gunshot hit the opponent with this. Thanks a lot!
Anyone running wolverine/spencer/X have a reliable way to end a combo with slant shot. I sometimes OTG slide to the opposite side of my opponent which screws me up. I also can’t seem to ever do the tornado claw loop with slant shot either, although I can with tatsu.
I currently try to do standard combo > dash while calling slant shot > OTG slide > berserker barrage H > Fatal Claw > Bionic Maneuvers
edit: Walking forward a little instead of dashing seems to work, but harder to time.
I used to play Wolvie/Spencer and doesn’t the side you end up on after the OTG depend on 1) How soon after the OTG the Slant Shot assist hits (ie, if it hits immediately you can’t go under them, but if it hits later you can go under them?) and 2) How close you are to them + their relative hitbox/hurtbox size, if you are further away you won’t get under them etc.
So maybe taking a step or a dash away from them could help, as well as playing with the timings of the assist call and the OTG? It’s been a while since I’ve played them together and I’m without my xbox for the weekend so I can’t play around with this again.
As for the Fatal Claw loop though, you generally need an assist which will pop them up high enough into the air so that after the Tornado Claw they are being hit by the Fatal Claw at nearly the top of it to give you enough time for the second TC xx FC.
What are the best mixups with Wolverine on incoming characters? I see the cross up drill claw used quite a bit. Is there any trick to doing it to get it to cross up?
Walking forward instead of dashing forward did the trick, but you can’t get lazy with the timing. Wolverine/Spencer is a cool combo, but you can’t really take advantage of unscaled verticle grapples with that team unless you go Sent anchor.
I created a combo using the otg properties of hidden missiles that allows me two fatal claws.
LMHS MMH Drill Claw Dive Kick Land St H(Call Doom) S Air MMHS Land missiles connect L Tornado claw Fatal Claw L Tornado Claw Fatal Claw
The trick is you need to do tornado claw as soon as the missiles connect
