SNES USB Decoder?

So I just watched the EVO stream for the Sailor Moon S event, and I noticed they were using their own controllers. I was able to catch a small statement in chat about them using some kind of USB decoder along with an SNES pad-hack to allow other controllers to be used on the SNES. I’m curious if anyone happens to know how this was done, as it’s something I’d like to explore myself.

Thanks for any help or info, or or any good direction you can point me in.

SNES to USB converters are very common.
It also could be a SNES style 8 Bitdo Controller

Could be a UD-USB paired up with an SNES padhack.
Or hell, just a MC Cthulhu, a PS360+ or a Brook Retro Board with an SNES cable made.

I’m thinking this is probably how it was being done. There doesn’t seem to be just a great explanation of how exactly the UD-USB decoders work with it’s systems, but if I had to guess, it takes the input from a standard current gen controller, converts it over to it’s own button presses which are probably wired up to the “pad-hack” for whatever console it plugs into, thus allowing for that signal conversion. Seems like it’d be simple enough to manage if that is how it’s done.

The best kind.

Was funny to see the ghetto boxes, cause i was used to the decaboxes that Nendo had made

@nendo is a great guy, and his Decaboxes are very hard to beat.
