I think this is pretty sad, OG players challenging Snake when they have a clear advantage…Oh well hopefully they will return in kind & challenge Snake in HDR…Whatever happen to bragging rights? What’s with all this betting with money, dont yall people got jobs?
I was referring to in-person at Season’s Beatings. Online matches are fine for practice, but I wouldn’t trust them when prizes are on the line.
Don’t be trying to hustle so obviously, what idiot would MM online?
So is SE v Shirts MM still happening? I guess it depends on if he’s willing to play classic mode on console. I might MM my boy thelo or someone else if I can go (that ft50 casual session with you and all the EVO casuals with everyone in both st and hdr gave me confidence to see the players who I thought were unstoppable giants are actually human…somewhat. =P
I agree with rcaido if SE or any primary hdr player MM’s someone who’s best in st then the opposite shouldn’t be completely out of the question.
Sure, ft5 for $20 in HDR the next time we meet? It’s unfortunately not looking like SB for me but perhaps NEC?
I’ll ft5 anyone for $10-20 in ST or HDR, no exceptions. My stipulations are that HDR must be in 4:3 aspect ratio (new sprites for remix, original sprites for classic) and that money matches don’t start until after the tourney is over. Preference of version is CPS2 > DC > HDR classic > HDR remix but I won’t turn anyone down in any version unless I’m low on cash at the time.
Sure thing, we can do this next time we meet. Sucks about SB. If I remember correctly, we’re pretty evenly matched, so this should be interesting!
When is next NEC?
Honda v Vega? That’s a pretty entertaining matchup to watch! Wall Dives and Sumo splashing abound!
Thelo: Well, NEC hasn’t been announced yet but I’d assume it’ll happen at the beginning of Dec. like it normally does, during the eye of the holiday season where there are less schedule conflicts. We’ve never been matched up in a tourney so it should be fun.
Silver Rain: You seem to have fine taste. I’ve often heard of it being referred to as “one of the ugliest matchups in the game,” but I digress.
Well in fairness… What I really enjoy watching is seeing Honda lose… You know Cammy players everywhere have nightmares of being Sumo splashed and Hundred Hand Slapped… its true!
Seriously, I just enjoy watching high level SF2 play and Honda / Vega is a matchup I don’t get to see enough… I think it can be extremely entertaining watching two very different styles matchup.
Yo Ganelon what’s good, man I’m still replaying our evo match in my head being 1 round short of making semis! You’re the toughest claw I’ve faced in hdr and I’ve never seen anyone so aggressively use st fp and skyhigh claw if I can go I’d like to MM you (though I despise 4:3) I’ll need to get revenge at some point having you knock me out of evo and the st tourney:rofl:
Claw vs honda is as DSP said “one of the most misunderstood matches in st” I remember Apoc posting how it was 5-5, IMO whoever gets the life lead will probably win because both layers have to take risks to do damage and it’s a pretty entertaining match so I’m hoping I get to see you guys.
Snake if you want to practice up for this match try to get into contact with bcchoi and maybe he will be on GGPO and your pad should work there. He is really good with Dhalsim and will give you a better idea if this bet is worth doing.
Hey, nice meeting you at Evo, orochi. It was an interesting match and you seemed very precise with dps on your own stick. I’d be happy to mm the next time we meet. I’m not sure I feel fully comfortable about 16:9 spacing yet so you’ll have to excuse that requirement (plus, HDR tourneys in our region are almost exclusively 4:3 anyway).
It’s nothing to a boss Czar.
Ok yeah just makin sure too haha… Well if I go to SB then yeah I’ll do a $ Match with you for a hundo…
Agreed again lol
My internet goes down for 3 days and the forum gets super active all of a sudden. Thats crazy.
But tier lists do literally, objectively exist:

So what I presume you’re saying is that the difference in-between the strengths of each character - although those differences exist - are too small to be meaningful. Or perhaps you’re making a general statement that “any character can beat any other character”.
Either way, the statement “I don’t believe in tiers or rating systems” seems rather like dismissive hand waving (“oh, you don’t need to worry about tiers…”)
The tier list above was put together by Gian I believe, with help from Gotoh, Aniken, Kusumondo, Nuki, Komoda, Gunze, Muteki, K, Nakamura, Yuubou, yaya, Tsuji, ARG, and (my personal god) Taira. Obviously they put some credence in tier lists.
Not “believing” in tier lists seems like not believing in gravity.
gravity is over rated.
While I agree with you geo that tier lists do exist, I also agree with people who say that “any character can beat any other character”. Cuz it’s true. No matter which tier list you look at, there is no matchup that is 10-0. Gravity is fact, but tier lists are just opinion. As long as any character can win even once, they have a chance to win a tournament.
Say for example that Zangief vs Honda is 2-8 Honda. That means if a Zangief player wins 2 matches in a tourney, then people could say that if they had played 10 matches, the Honda player would have won the other 8. But in a tourney, all any player needs to do is win 2 matches (for a best of 3). And according to the tier lists, every character can do this against any other character.
Even in a Grand Final, where the Loser’s Final winner has to win a best of 7 twice (8 matches to win), there is still hope for characters with a disadvantage. Say for example that a Zangief player has to take 8 matches vs a Honda player to take the Championship. This is not impossible IMO. It’s very unlikely, but not impossible. If the Zangief player did win 8 matches, this can still fit into the tier ranking. People could say that if both players had played a total of 40 matches, the Honda player would have won 32 matches, and the Zangief player could win 8 (2-8:8-32). But 8 is all Zangief needed to win in order to take the Championship. So it is possible IMO.
This is why I don’t take tier lists too seriously. I put some stock in them, but I don’t believe in them as fact. Even lightning can strike twice.
Having said all that, there is no f***ing way I am using Zangief vs Honda in a tournament. But I will use Ken vs Vega, and that’s prolly cuz Zangief is not my main. That’s another thing, believing in tier lists too much can dampen your confidence in a matchup. You have to be able to believe that you can beat the other guy. If not, then you’ve already lost IMO.
I’ve got over 400 skydives and 3 BASE jumps and I can tell you, it most certainly is not
