So i am getting a smashbox, its a controller for playing smash bros. It works as a gamecube controller here is a pic
what i wanted to do , was use this as a hitbox fightstick across different platforms as well. I feel like setting it up for PC would be easiest. Im wondering what i would need to do to make it so that it works on xboxone and ps4 as well, and if i could make it compatible with even more platforms the better.
I can show pictures of what it looks like inside after i get the item sometime next week. It has 3 possible ways of connecting.
- it has a gamecube controller cable, dont really think this will be used if trying to connect to other platforms
- i have a gamecube controller to wiiU converter, if that helps, it plugs in via usb
- the product itself comes with a usb type b cable that is used for programming angles and buttons via software.
so is it possible for me to mod my smashbox to work with other popular platforms? if so how? im also willing to buy converters if needed. I still want it to be compatible with gamecube so i can play smash bros though. I know its kind of confusing because we have no idea what the pcb looks like yet, but its a gamecube controller basically. So if theres a way to get GCC to work on other platforms as well then i assume the same would work with this.
FYI The Smash Box layout is intended for Smash and not for fighting games.
You could dual-mod the controller, but we don’t till someone takes the plunge and look inside
ill be sure to open mine up and share some pics, I know the layout is attended for smash but personally i would love to use it with other fighting games as well. That way i could use the same fightstick for everything.
If impossible to dual mod is it possible for me to use adapters of any kind?
Did you have any further luck with this smash box? (dual mods, adapters etc?)
What were you planning on using it for? Anything besides smash?
Ordered one for my son who plays smash, mkx (PS4), streetfighter (PS4). With the new layout from hitboxarcade and the included software, this controller seems a good deal. But, it would be nice if it could be used for the above mentioned PS4 games as well. Someone posted on a review that it works on PS3 with a gamecube controller adapter. Wondering about PS4…
The most I’ve seen someone do is get a Gamecube to Wii U/PC adapter and use the legacy controller support on MKX and SFV but other than that I’m not sure if adding multiple adapters is a good idea to use because I can cause very bad input delay and would not be worth it. You may be able to dual mod with a Brook UFB or Ps3/Ps4 board and do it that way but other than that it’s only geared towards smash and brook has a Gamecube to Wii U and Gamecube to Switch adapters for Smash IV and the upcoming Smash 5. The original hitbox is probably the better bet with other games like MKX and SFV.
A quick search on the review section for the “Mayflash GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, PC USB and Switch, 4 Port” adapter on amazon reveals that it works for PS3. It appears that this adapter has negligible lag. I think MKX supports PS3, but, i agree, a dual mod would seem to be a more robust long term solution. I haven’t received it in the mail yet (they shipped the controller today). But, it looks like this controller may have very little space inside to work with. But, will post results if i decide to dual mod with a Brook PS4 w/audio PCB.
