Pretty much. It reminds me of a doujin fighter. And no offense to those games but the design choice just doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t need a fighter dripping with Machismo and gore or anything like Mortal Kombat. But I don’t like exclusively playing as little girls. See for example Arcana Heart. The only doujin fighter I ever really liked was Akatsuki Blitzkampf, which later became legit. But in the latest version they added a bunch of loli characters and seizure-inducing hit stun effects.
Not trying to rag on you guys or anything. In fact, if you poke fun at Arcana Heart I’d probably buy it just for that.
I look forward to your evil characters. Thanks for reading.
I would guess exclusivity deals with Sony and Microsoft, which was the case with the Super Meatboy team and why they released the PC version a month after the XBLA version. That, and that’s where the main market is at.
It’s simply my preferred system for gaming, I like the integrations I can use with it that are clumsier on the console and I like the distribution systems on it. I was very interested when it was originally implied that it’d launch on that platform, the apparent reversal is a bit disappointing, that’s all… Your point 1 seems a bit odd given your second line.
well, “tons” of demands on your facebook page wouldnt make less valid the perception that a fighting game on pc dont seem profitable if this is validated in some way with a market research or something
The PC is a pretty popular system! Thought he major issue is most things that are successful on it have a business model that requires owning the game for at least a quality experience.
If you guys could rig up the netcode so it’s a huge pain in the ass to go through any channels but your own, it might see some success on PC (for lack of piracy). You might even just scrap that and try a different business model (release the game for free with 2 characters, charge money for the rest). I don’t think there’s a huge lack of demand for PC games, the real issue is marketing and making sure the game isn’t super easy to just download and play online.
Deving for PC can be rough though too, if you don’t have the budget for it, yeah. Accommodating a bunch of system specs is pretty hard.
This really didn’t answer anything but I think you guys should really just look into the PC market harder. If you come from consoles, I can see the skepticism. The PC is weird to develop for unless you run with lower end stuff that isn’t too system intensive, or have been making games for the PC for years and have a huge following. Skullgirls might be really system intensive so that could be the killing blow for PC.
Good post but I don’t agree with this. Most computers backing up 2-3 years are at least on par with the PS3 or 360 these days, assuming you bought decent stuff.
My comp blows the shit out of my PS3 when it comes to performance and graphical quality. Developing for PC is so open ended as well and gives you a better ability to tweak your game for maybe a bit weaker systems. The reason why fighters haven’t really taken off on PC is because: No one is really trying. FPS, MMO and RPG’s are all huge genres on the PC with MILLIONS of people playing.
Another thing that would have me prefer playing on PC is that generally the netplay works better on a PC compared to consoles. I’m not gonna try to go in to details because I don’t really have a clue, that’s just my general opinion of netplay on console vs PC.
As for pirating I can only speak for myself. If I’m really looking forward to a game and appreciate the work that’s being done, I’ll buy it. I even think pirating can work to your advantage sometimes as someone tries out Skullgirls for example and they realize they want to be able to play online to play more people, then you got another potential customer that might’ve not even looked at the game until it popped up on a torrensite luring them in with that amazing 2D artwork.
As long as companies protect their online play, sales are usually fine.
Fair enough - the game started as a doujin fighter, after all!
Hopefully you’ll at least play the demo and see if we can convince you otherwise, though. The all-girl-ness is only temporary, and I think you’ll appreciate the gameplay. Our characters are pretty varied in play style, too, so you might even find a girl character you like.
Where was it implied that it’d launch on PC?
Since the game was announced to actually be coming out with the GDC announcement and trailer, the only announced platforms have been “HD consoles.” Any information on a PC release before that trailer is no longer valid, I’m afraid.
Reverge Labs wants to do a PC release, but ultimately it’s not our decision: it’s Autumn’s. Part of the reason I come on forums and ask these things is so we can convince Autumn to let us do a PC version.
Well, it’s all relative: “tons” of requests on our sub-1,500 followers on Facebook is still a drop in the bucket compared to the overall market for the game.
Yeah, the “problem” is that for the sales PC games get compared to their console counterparts, they can require a lot more testing and bug fixing than a console version because of the huge profusion of different hardware and software configurations. The 360 version is more or less a PC version, just on a standardized PC, which significantly narrows the testing parameters.
Outside of testing, we’d also have to get everything ported over to Steam or whatever, too.
But in the end, though, this is really just about optimization: the optimal use of our limited resources is to focus manpower on the two most profitable systems, and then address any others Autumn wants after that.
What do you like better about PC online over console online? Are we talking ping times, or something else? Capcom’s recent networking stuff isn’t great, so I can’t help but wonder if people are just dumping on console online play because of that?
We are using GGPO netcode, so I think that will get us as close as possible to the PC online experience on consoles.
And while I can’t announce anything yet, we’ve also got some surprises in store that should make the PC and console experiences closer in other ways, too.
PlayStation 3, because its fragmented memory structure makes it the harder problem to solve.
It should be simultaneous with the PS3 version!
The only reason I can possibly see it being different, and it’s a longshot, is if for some reason MS takes much longer to approve release than Sony, like with what happened with the BlazBlue DLC. But marketing and customers hate staggered releases, so it’d have to be a pretty ridiculous delay to justify that.
Tell ya’ what; if you have a hybrid grappler like Alex from 3S or even a bad-ass get in and stay in kind of grappler like Raiden in KOF13 I’ll pick it up.
From the games that I got to play that came out for both PC and console (BBCT,SF4) the online matches on PC were much better, less laggy etc.
And about the demo- I don’t care if it will have just 1 character, but can you at least make it with online? Like they did the Ryu-Ken beta with HDR to test the online.
I recommend just 2 characters, 2 stages, and one mode. That should be enough considering how many charactrs are in the game, anything more would be a bit TOO much in my opinion.
Anyway, question.
Will everyone in this game have access to an airdash?
What kind of ranking system do you play on using for online? If you can’t say anything can you give us a hint?
Are there any ither modes you plan on implementing at this present time?
How will you handle your advertisement? Will it be similar to the developers of alien Hominid/Castle Crashers(Newgrounds)?
