Why should a taunt give a bonus?

The problem with 3s taunts is that they’re not taunts, they’re self-buffs. And it becomes about setting up your buffs so you can’t be punished. A taunt is suppose to intentionally leave you exposed to attack, to goad your opponent. You know, like a taunt.
If you really want a taunt that does something, then it should give your opponent meter or a buff. Or maybe kill your current character and have the next char come in with large recovery!

In any case I’m not sure you’d get a ton of time to be able to do taunts in a game that’s cut from the Vs series cloth.
The taunt granting a stat bonus does not negate the taunting quality of the taunt. And furthermore, taunting is usually done when you are fairly certain the taunt is safe from reprisal, even if no buff is granted as a result.
In this case, the opponent has no motivation to stop you from taunting as it is in their best interests to allow you to taunt as much and for as long as you have the ego and hubris to do so. This contradicts the goal of a taunt as described in your first paragraph.

Taunts in 3S can still be taunts and you can taunt your opponent in other ways as seen here.
I’m already planning on calling soldier dives for taunts with Parasoul. I’ll find something to do with the rest of the cast, like fill the stage with ants with Peacock.
That second one was a counter, not a taunt.
Also I’d just like this game to have taunts as taunts and nothing more, as it was simply add more personality to the characters~
