Mike seemed to be under the impression that there was no way to stop people from resetting that timer. Have people really not managed to do it with sonic generations? Also even if you could the rules for arcade games are a bit different since they are mandatory. Sonic generations was a disc game so the demo probably wasn’t subject to the type of restrictions that trial versions of arcade games are. Maybe you could just expire the online portion?
I think it would be good marketing to let them play anyway. It’d still be a very incomplete version of the game, so people who enjoy it would be inclined to buy.
thats what i meant. make it so they cant play online anymore after a month. that sounds like a good idea. just shut down the trial servers right? if the player liked the game, they would buy it. Besides they only get 3 characters to use, im sure they would buy the game before the month was even up if they were going to buy it
If everyone is going to buy the game within a month anyway, then there’s no reason to have a 1-month limit.
Here’s what I think the demo should be.
four characters: Filia, Cerebella,Peacock, Parasoul
Reduced Training mode. (You can’t change the pre-set settings at all, no damage info display, you can only train with one character at a time so no teams)
Quick H&H like manual for a tutorial
Allows you to fight to the first sub-boss of the game in Arcade mode.
1p vs 2p offline.
well EVERYONE wont buy the game within a month. but what i mean is people, who download the demo when it comes out will buy the game within a month if they really want it. i guess if you never heard of skullgirls and just happen across the demo and try it, then you wont care that much if the trial is online or not
I’m curious as to how well received the demo for Sonic Generations was since it does seem to be an interesting way to distribute the demo.
this game looks badass but i think having online in the demo isnt the best way to go, people could just not buy the game ever
Why do you assume that?
well i mean if online is gonna be a big part of the game, why would they put it in a free demo? seems kinda pointless to me
but the point of the demo would be to showcase the games features. Is online not that important of a factor? What do you think the demo should have then?
To show off how good the online playability is. Seeing as how important that has become for fighting games, I think it would only help for people to know the online is good first hand instead of gambling on hearsay. Plus, they have no brand recognition and existing reputation like Capcom or SNK and yet SNK put out a demo allowing to try out online so I think it would only help their cause to showoff the quality of their work.
Yeah, you make a point there, i mean im gonna buy it either way so idc if the demo has online
Yeah, the demo is for those on the fence that need a little push.
is the demo even out btw?
It’ll come out on the day of release.
the demo wont be out until the game is released
ah. that disappoints, wish it was sooner
I dunno. I’m on the fence about online in a demo. It would have to be limited as has been mentioned before. A time limit or only able to play against other demos. Don’t think for a second that there aren’t people who would simply play the demo over and over if there were two characters available for online against the full version owners.
It wouldn’t match demo players to full version players, ideally. I think it would be fine to have the first 3 characters, as was already stated. I would think anyone who was really interested would want to try all the characters or at least get experience fighting the other characters.
