So, less than a month and GG online is as dead as SG online; gg xbl. I’m sure people are waiting for dat GG patch, just like SG. >_<

The online matchmaking system may be completely broken though. For example, searching for a Player Match:
If I leave the default settings as is, I get a message saying that there are no rooms available. However, if I narrow it down to very specific criteria (like 1v1, no Kliff/Justice, no EX/SP characters, no GG/GGX mode, search for fast connections only), I get like, three rooms lol. Why didn’t those three rooms show up the first time I was searching?
Hell, I don’t even bother searching for Player Matches anymore; I just have a room open and hope to have someone from North America join. But most of the time I get Japanese players trying to join, so I have to disband the room and reopen. Why isn’t there an option just to kick the player out of the room instead of having to close the room and reopen it?
As for the actual gameplay…
Your first clue as to how bad the connection will get is at the character select screen. When the connection is stable, all is good. When there’s input lag or slowdown though, YOU WILL FEEL IT. Unlike BlazBlue, there’s no generous 5-frame buffer to mask the input delay. Forget about FRCs, Slashbacks, throw breaks, or even basic combos; it’ll be a fucking miracle to do all of that under the slightest bit of lag. The netcode may work for BlazBlue and Persona 4 Arena, but it’s not really suitable for Guilty Gear at all.
TL;DR Network mode was totally half-assed and Arc System Works needs to get this patched ASAP. I’ll still play online, but…
I test the connection now by starting the match and back-dashing, then mashing punch. If there’s any noticeable delay at all, I just exit to main menu. It’s not worth the effort to completely change how you play just to deal with tactics you wont be able to react against. I can honestly believe that network mode was an afterthought, which sucks when your only other alternative is to just stop. It feels like less ppl overall are on now though; the “new” game shine has faded, I guess.
Also sucks when you spend the entire first player match testing the connection, you find the connection is stable and the other guy bails. =/
