I think EVO should be held outdoors next year, seeing how well SBO is going.
i play games in order to escape from having to ever go outside, what the fuck were they thinking?
That sounds dangerous, aren’t there bears outside?
It’s karma for not having Guilty Gear.
I assume they thought, “Woah, this is amazing. Let’s change it!” The good news is an American player got far, it just took shitty everything and other players not taking it seriously to get there!
Nah, bears don’t like laggy situations when trying to maul.
I didn’t think much of Tokyo Godfathers. I prefer Paprika, but I think Millenium Actress was his best, since his skill is in pacing and that film just goes nuts.
fuck that noise, they should have EVO on a bus that is tanning it down the highway or a road full of potholes and shit. that or a boat in a Tsunami.
There are 2 Vanilla MvC3 set-ups at SBO. You honestly have to try to fuck up that hard.
SBO is trying extra hard to fleece people out of their money this year.
On the topic of Graphic Novels, I’m a big fan of the FABLES series. The Last Man is also good. Personal favorite is the Negation series, because my gosh the art is awesome. Here’s one of the regular panels of the comic.

If it’s about the 'xplosions and that gun scenario, I already said I wouldn’t call them criticisms as much as gripes, as they don’t represent the story as a whole by any means. They were just minor nuisances that popped up here and there.
I went in with no standards; maybe the began establishing themselves as the series went on but as I already claimed, I don’t want to waste a ton of my time on something. I go into something with the hope that I will like it but no expectations of good or bad (with a couple exceptions such as unless it’s like some SciFi channel movie or something, I expect those to be crap because one would only watch them to laugh).
Don’t really care about the taking seriously thing, I can’t really take you seriously with some of your thoughts on it either. We’re in the same boat, I agree with you on some of the things about it and disagree strongly with others.
Like I already said, worlds should have logical consistency to them. Vehicles triggered to explode don’t fit in with that.
“This is unrealistic.”
"It’s fiction, dude."
That is a really low level of response.
I just think you have this one down wrong yourself. I can suspend my disbelief at that “lolevolution” bit at the end (though I found the over-arching explanation for their powers bad nonetheless), I can suspend my disbelief that stimulating parts of the brain through saline vials give rise to psychokinesis. There are some things however that do not warrant a suspension of disbelief (and in this case whether the vehicles exploded or not wouldn’t even change the story whatsoever).
Well, if you know the origin of the exploding vehcile in media tell me now. I was under the impression that Hollywood films were the first to gratuitously utilize it and then it spread from there. I could be wrong. That’s besides the point, because as I said countless times, what I’m boiling it down to is logical consistency of the world.
And this doesn’t skew my view, it’s a minor gripe that happened nearly entirely in the first volume. If somebody was going to ask me to say a flaw in Akira, I would not say exploding vehicles, because this is not an overarching concept that played a large role in the overall journey.
I will say though that I didn’t do a list of positives and negatives, I just posted my annoyances or criticisms since while you’re enjoying something it’s easier to just keep reading through it, and I have a tendency to write out the things I don’t like while reading it. If I were to praise other aspects, it would have to be in a more formal review after I’ve finished the whole thing. Though if a certain chapter was really incredible I would take my time to write that, however with Akira things often stayed at a stable level of “quite good” (worse at the second half). And if I read a manga that was competently solid throughout, I probably wouldn’t even write anything at all except “Was super solid.” when I finish it.
Basically, this whole long paragraph is to say I don’t point things out in this format unless it’s a gripe, criticism, or immense praise.
ZING! Haha, I haven’t seen a good chunk of what Anderson has done (really I argued against the Perry part because a film of Wes can still be a quality product even if it borrows most things from prior films, whereas with Perry you’re not getting a quality product at any point). And it’s not out of nowhere, they spent a good chunk of time together doing stuff, but other than the “You’re such a jerk!” cliche of the 80’s and 90’s manga, intercharacter development wasn’t really there. And the whole “love” for Ryu which was dropped with one sentence from that badass woman (keep forgetting her name) was just… funky (not the good kind).
Latter part I agree with. Former part… I thought they had the potential to be flushed out into being very interesting. I don’t think it ever happened.
I mean comes back to the Kei group, I know he shows his face and hangs out with the biogas guy.
I just disagree that it’s there, of course we could have different standards on what the entire thing is to begin with. His architecture stuff is great though, especially because he shoves it into the background of his panels very often - of even a face close-up, and not enough manga artists do that. I don’t call that an aspect of subtlety though.
As for the “made up your mind” part, blagh really? How does this: “I would need major elaboration, maybe as far as to going specific examples of images.” force you into the whole defeatist “he’s not gonna change” prose? For this case I would just need to dive into specifics as vagueness of general discussion won’t cut it. However diving into specifics and starting to analyze lone images may get boring, so I can understand how we may not want to go that route… If you do have enough time to kill to present a compelling argument with examples on that front though, that would be pretty cool.
I just don’t equate drawing proper and fitting expressions that match a character’s personality as subtle or amazing; I just leave it at a well-done job. It was refreshing to not have a lot of those “gasp! shock!” stills though that many manga tend to use, I’m finding Kokou no Hito (what that one guy above posted) has A TON ERRRYWHERE.
http://mangafox.me/manga/kokou_no_hito/v01/c003/19.html (<- those things)
And for example, that’s not a criticism of the series, it’s just a gripe with the first 5 chapters (that’s as far as I got) because there’s a disproportionate amount of them, and I would have liked the author to try out other methods of expression. Otherwise it has started out really good.
(Please don’t treat gripes I may have with a single element or scenario as a criticism of the story as a whole - they’re not the same.)
EDIT: Up to chapter 23 and it’s just getting better.
dhim approves
KEEP IT DOWN NERDS, I GOTTA DO SQUAT THRUSTS IN THE MORNING!
What are we talking about? Girlystyles was posting a book on the previous page but I don’t feel like reading it.
What’s good peoples?
Pony fighter is pretty fun.
blazblue III seems entertaining, especially since I skipped out on EX. though I now realiz that blazblue CP is a slightly unfortunate shortening of the name.
Yeah saw that BB 3 trailer and only really noticed Noel looking different aesthetics wise (better though). I also skipped Extend since thats probably the worst paid update for a fighter in recent memory. Im probably gonna be playing Patch SG (Whenever that decides to drop) and P4U though. Although Im glad they are changing up the game mechanics like making the burst similar to GG/P4U for example. I’ll give that game a rental for a fair try, but was never a fan for the BB aesthetics for their characters or story. The questionable game mechanics also turned me off for a short-lived experience of BB. Cheers for those hyped for the game though
What do you all think of the SFA, Sakura Ganbaru, and Ryu Final manga?
On one hand, I placed 2nd at Skullgirls at Union Strike, only losing 3-2 in the finals to Trumpet (4th ranked at EVO).
On the other hand, there were only seven people. >.>
Those cerebella ones look wrong…
