Skullgirls Nominated for 8th Slot at EVO

Yeah I have PS3. I’ll see how things go money-wise. I’m anticipating the new Sly Cooper game coming in about two weeks.

So, anybody think Mike’ll do his Russian accent in next week’s stream if we donate enough?

If you say so. I’d be willing to play it, but I am not smart with mods and that sort of thing. Sadly I also do not have a properly functioning wii and I have not had the time to replace my stolen Brawl disc. D:
Props for being a PSN SkullGirls player.

I prefer Brawl over melee; I straight up hate Project M. Brawl controls soo much smoother (screw melees twitchy bricks) and I actually like the momentum in that game as opposed to instantly changing directions because A) it doesnt look or feel stupid and B) opens up new techniques like pivot jumps (i.e. instant back airs).

However, I’ll admit that melee is slightly more competitively viable…mostly because of tripping.

That being said, Brawl+ is the shizz, But Skullgirls, A.K.A. Based Broads, is the Shizznit.

Brawl is so slow it has no momentum, and what are you talking about about? pivot jumps? the fuck is that. Brawl is not viable competitively because of everything, the balance is broken, it is so much casual-friendly (no wavedash, no l-cancel, no way to control tthe angle of the air dodge, tripping, etc)

because Brawl its a party game no a competitive fighting, no offense.

It really isnt that slow and I personally think the controls and responsive ness feel so much better in Brawl. And by momentum I mean that if you’re runnnig right and turn left you keeping moving right for a fraction of a second even though your body is facing left.

using the momentum described above you can jump in one direction while facing the other which allows you to do instant back airs

Balance: I half agree. I agree that balance is good and that Brawls’ is lacking, but I disagree about it making a game competitive, good, or more fun. Look at MVC2. It’s waaaaaay less balanced than either version of MVC3, but it’s tons more fun and still manages to be played competitively.

wavedashing: I personally hate any form of movement that looks dumb (i.e. doa teleport), but I will use it. When I, or someone else, makes a fighter with sexy looking wave dashes I’ll be happy. That being said I dont think I give a @%^& about the loss of wavedashing.

l-canceling: I agree, though I just adapted and dont use certain moves when I’m that close to the ground.

angle of air dodge: I agree to an extent. While controlling the angle is Extremely nice, so are the abilities to air-dodge multiple times and move/jump/attack after an airdodge. I think it was a fair trade. Multiple air dodges with the ability to control direction would be ridiculous; however, one or two directional air dodges + ability to move/jump(depends on character)/attack after might be alright.

tripping: I agree so much that it was my only real issue with the game

ON Topic continuation:
Skullgirls has none of those issues. Filia is the only one with a truly useful wavedash and it looks decent (yay gliding animations). Every character is viable. Every character has unique and effective mobility options. And - my personal favorites- not only does the game look and feel good, but there aren’t any stupid looking mechanics or animations.

I choose Skullgirls over Melee, Brawl, and Project M (which In my opinion is a stupid, albieit dedicated, mod). I even prefer it over Brawl+. That mod has owl turds for balance, but it’s sooo much fun.

I’d like to say that if weren’t for the donation drive. I would have never heard of many of the games that people were donating to. Even Skullgirls. When I saw Skullgirls as one of the games I was intrigued to find out more about it. I instantly became entranced with it’s art style. I have never really understood the mechanics for fighting games like Skullgirls but this time something felt different. Needless to say I started researching and looking at videos for Skullgirls. Watching combo tutorials and reading these forums as well. I bought the game a day later. Now I find myself reading these forums and constantly looking for Skullgirls videos on youtube. Especially Filia :P. I’ve even watched interviews from the lead animation director and Mike Z on how the business works, the development process etc. In other words, I like this game a lot and I enjoy it as much as I enjoy smash. I know that EVO has it’s limitations, but it would have been amazing to have both games there. Skullgirls and Smash.

In the end, the donation drive has helped get exposure for all the games that are competing for a spotlight chance on EVO. Without it I know I wouldn’t have even heard of Skullgirls existence. The best thing to help any game is to get the word of its existence out there. And the donation drive was one of those things. I know there can be many others like it.

And now I return to my humble programming.

I’m trying so hard not to respond to Dravidian and derail the topic. So, so hard.

That being said, you guys are doing great. I like the momentum I’m seeing in your donations. You’re almost at 7k! Keep up the good work.
