Skullgirls Nominated for 8th Slot at EVO

Oh crap, SkullGirls is catching up!

Oh gosh, I’m just tempted to donate even more, but I feel I should wait to get paid first before doing so D:

I cannot believe it. This is actually a possibility.

Like right now, Melee is only ahead by like $50. That’s… amazing.

Like I said to myself, we are not going down without a fight!

My wife’s donation just put SG in the lead.

I LOVE HER.

You all realize there’s like 16 days to go right? >_>

Tell your wife she is super pretty and amazing and the bestest.

Now I wish my checking account wasn’t closed. :frowning:

let the hype flow

We can’t lose as long as we have on our side the people who don’t think Melee is a fighting game.

LET’S GO.

all the more reason to keep up the efforts instead of waiting when its to late.

For the sake of Skullgirls I shall not consider Melee a fighting game again until February 1st.

EDIT:

Precisely. We gotta make motha luvas lose hope and join the (Based) Broad Side.

Just donated what little I have. Still sad that I can’t play the patched game yet, but if the game gets the attention it needs on the main stage at EVO, then that’ll more than make up for it.

So I said screw it and donated much more. Donated a good 50 bucks to this cause, maybe I’ll donate again next paycheck or the paycheck after that.

I want to do whatever I can to help SkullGirls make it to Evo!

OK so I wrote a note in my Facebook and shared it with different fighting game groups and all my friends. I’m putting the note here, and you can change anything you want or copy/paste it exactly. Let’s use the normally-a-stupid-burden social media and blogosphere to get some money donated to the boobies!

Put it on Facebook. Put it in Google+ and share it with every circle. Tweet the link to it to everyone you know. Bombard everyone you know and don’t let up.

Title:
Support Breast Cancer and an Indie Game Developer

Text:
“Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. It is also one of the leading causes of cancer death among women of all races and Hispanic origin populations.” - CDC

I know you’re confused, wondering, “What does breast cancer have to do with gaming?” The reasoning is very unique. Breast cancer research and gaming have found a common interest this year.

Every year, there is a very large fighting game tournament series called the Evolution Championship Series (EVO, for short). This year is EVO’s biggest year yet, featuring eight fighting games (the largest amount yet). And as you can imagine, all the popular fighting games are present. But you may not be aware of one indie game developer who is currently in the running that could also use some help.

Lab Zero Games is an independent game developer group formed by a few friends who were laid off from her previous job. Their previous job involved the making of a fighting game called Skullgirls. A fighting game made by tournament players, with nearly every feature a tournament player could ever want.

The game uses hand drawn sprites running at 60 frames per second to create one of the most fluid two-dimensional fighting games in years. Youtube videos don’t make the game justice. The engine is similar to games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Darkstalkers and Guilty Gear. More importantly, this game came from the combined dreams of two guys: tournament-player and lead programmer Mike Zaimont; and lead artist Alex Ahad. Mike was very interested in creating a fighting game engine that was a balanced combination of several popular fighting games. Alex Ahad was an aspiring artist with a unique universe filled with interesting characters that he hoped to include in a game. When their interests met, they worked nonstop pitching the idea to developers: a tournament game designed by tournament players for tournament players.

A month after their game was finally released, the entire team behind the game was laid off due to legal troubles with their parent company, and since then they worked without pay for nearly 8 months to be able to bring to the gaming community a title update (for PS3, but they are still working on the Xbox 360 version). They are still not being paid because their parent company is still involved in legal troubles, so they will likely not see a penny yet.

You, who is still reading this, can make a difference in two ways. This small group of friends want to get their labor of love into the biggest fighting game competition in the world, and at the same time you can help provide money to entities conducting research in prevention and finding a cure for breast cancer! A game like this belongs in the grandest stage. Help them AND help men and women all over the world by clicking on the link below.

The donation is tax-deductible, and will help a lot of people. Help grant a few people their biggest dream, and help millions of people live healthier lives.

I honestly didn’t think the SG would have beat Melee but ya proved me wrong…LET’S GO SKULLGIRLS                 :D…I would love to see this game make it to Evo

it’s still not won yet. Keep watching the donation links, who knows what can happen during the next few days.

I should have posted that I didn’t think SG would overtake Melee granted the poll isn’t over yet but the community definitely blew me away on this one

As long as we have a good lead we can still take this.

Mind games, muhfukka.

It’s a shame Apex was as good as it was, got the Smash community all fired up at the right time.

So here is the current standings as of 9:04 PM (PST) for the top 3:

SG: $2,781.22
SSBM: $2,579.47
DOA 5: $1,287.69

Looks like the $50 I donated helped quite a bit there!
