You know what would be really cool with Painwheel if she is the “aerial dominance” character that Mike Z was talking about? Different modes of flight. I was thinking about something like this today coming back from classes:

You would take the normal fly command (QCB + KK) and you get a different type of flight depending on what kick buttons you pressed. Since Skullgirls is a six button game and not a four button game like MvC2, why not have it matter what kick buttons you pressed? For example:

  • short/forward gives you a “MvC2 Sent” style of flight, but only lasts for a short time.
  • short/roundhouse gives you a “MODOK style” of flight that lets you float around for a very long time and be able to block, but at the cost of sacrificing speed + mobility.
  • forward/roundhouse would give you flight mobility and duration that was a hybrid of the other two versions, but would do something else to encourage using this mode (maybe a unique move that’s only available when this flight mode is active for example)

I know this probably won’t happen given that Painwheel is likely in development, but Skullgirls has really inspired me to think up of shit like this that most other fighting games wouldn’t even imagine.

I was saying that about Painwheel months ago. That blade fan on her back has to be for flying.

The different modes is a good idea that I may or may not have already had (^.^) but activating things by using a different combination of kicks is no good. What about people who play on pad, what about people who hit 3k but happen to hit two of the buttons a frame earlier than the last one, what about new players, etc. Having any gameplay difference based on that sort of thing is incredibly counterintuitive and unnecessary - I’m looking at you, Skrull. The choice should be a different motion or a joystick direction afterward.
Aesthetic differences are fine, like how you get different phrases for Tanden Renki based on which button(s) you activate it with* but there’s no real reason to complicate inputs this way. It’s up there with requiring half circles for some moves and not others.

If Painwheel is going to fly, it’s obviously going to involve the wheel. I think it would be cool if the wheel had a hitbox while you were flying, so you can hit your opponent with the blades, because her name isn’t Flywheel it’s ***Pain***wheel! Maybe give her an air normal or command normal that knocks your opponent upward, kind of like an aerial launcher, which you could follow up by flying straight into them.

Why can Mike give hints about Painwheel but not Umbrella :frowning:

I bet Panzerfaust is a a really kind and gentle guy when he isn’t all about business and is one of Umbrella’s best friends and personal guard :3

His intro will have him petting a kitten and shooing it away before the fight starts.

Because (I assume) we were supposed to get info on her from Fraggs already while Umbrella hasn’t been officially revealed yet.

Mike hardly told us anything about Painwheel anyway.
All he said was that fly/unfly wouldn’t use different combinations of kicks.

I also didn’t say she could fly, I just said if SOMEONE were to fly I wouldn’t do it that way. :^)

Although the answer to “Why can I talk about X but not about Y” might be simpler than you think.

I really hope she doesn’t turn out to be the new Hsien-Ko or something lol. I’ve never heard of her at all outside of fan speculation. I can totally understand why they wouldn’t talk about her though.

They’ve got tons of interesting characters to promote as it is.

It is nothing to apologize to us about. We already got Ms.Fortune. All that matters is that things are revealed at a nice pace and you guys have been doing this especially well since August or so.

Now I’m getting Huitzil/Phobos vibes. Which is both a good thing and a bad thing…

Or even better, his dizzy animation is Panzer looking all dazed, while the other soldier is flopping around hanging out of the tank’s porthole before pulling himself back in.

Meanwhile, his normal grab animation is him picking up the opponent with his bigger hand and repeatedly slamming him/her into the ground, L4D2 Charger-style.

The main move I want to see from PanzerFaust is him grabbing the other character with his tank-less hand and then aiming the tank cannon on his other hand to fire point blank into the enemy’s face. Just seems like such a perfect display of badassery for him :).

I think it’s kind of unlikely they’d have a huge dude with a tank for an arm who didn’t do exactly that, but yeah I’d love to see it as well.
