XD That’s what I wanted to hear. This game is fuckin crack right now.
Ultimately though, Smash in some way, brought a bunch of people into FGs. I know my kid brother, who helps me tear it up in SFxT online these days, started there. Competitive by nature takes a certain degree of the “Fun time with friends” aspect out of it that smash remedies with a lot of really imbalanced stuff like hammers and pokeballs, so I can totally understand where SmashDevs are coming from with that.
Also Smash/Marvel sounds alarmingly like I will have no idea what’s going on ever (Not that it’ll be a bad game, both of them just tend to travel at a pace I can’t easily follow). But hilarious to watch?
If there’s one thing you can expect out of a game inspired by Smash and Marvel it is copious amounts of shenanigans.
Also Smash taught me how much I hate “non-competitive” aspects of fighting games long before I was any more competent than your typical ten year old. Bob-ombs dropping on your head are such bull shit, I was always trying to get people to let me turn items off.

To each their own! As much as I like a level playing field in my Street Fighter’s and my Skullgirls…I was definitely an exploit the items guy in Smash.

I main Ganondorf in Brawl. I regularly beat out Metaknight scrubs in friendlies all the time.
And then when I get serious I use R.O.B. and do my glideboost shenanigans.
But I miss play OG Smash with people. Nobody wants to play that anymore, even though it’s arguably the best Smash ever.
