So I posted this over in the tier list discussion thread, yeah I know whatever;
I feel I should elaborate on this more, using Painwheel’s flight etc and with certain positioning, you can have cerebella come in for the grab but have Painwheel fly over to cross the opponent up and Cerebella will still land the grab, at this point it becomes obvious that you either need to hit Cerebella and/or Painwheel but it’s particularly awkward, I would record this and show you guys what I’m talking about but I sadly don’t have a video camera/web cam and no capture card either.
You can always jump but I think there’s prejump frames that have no blocking? I’m unsure, the whole unblockable situation is theory and training mode setups, as I said, nobody to test it with nor the options to test it.
What I’m asking is: am I wrong in thinking as such and if so why? I get that there are frames before an assist will do anything but if there’s prejump frames, I don’t see how it would become impossible to set up said unblockable. Can you tech command grab assists?
I really want to run Peacock(Bass Session)/Parasoul(Egret Charge)/Double(Cerebooty) but I’m having the same issues. One mistake against a butter churning Solobella and Peacock is pretty much dead. And I STILL can’t use Parasoul or Double worth a shit, bleh.
What kind of time line are we looking at for DLC then in best/worst case scenario? Is it gonna be staggered the way Capcom does, or when its done its done and you drop it on us asap?
Perhaps it’s because I use the Analog stick on my controller, but I find myself pulling of that move more then I want to some times. That, and my specials don’t always come out… but I like the feel of the controller too much to stay off it for long… If only there was a PS3 controller with the Analog stick of one of the Fight pads.
Back when I played Brawl (quiet you, this was before I had ever played a traditional fighting game and nobody I knew played them either) if I was on a particularly good streak I’d have friends want to ban me from playing Mr. Game and Watch. Don’t even remember who my second was in that game, I think it was Pokemon Trainer? Either that or Zero Suit Samus. But whoever it was it was a mid/low tier that was typically up against a Meta Knight.
I realized that pretty much right after posting. Button config doubles as a button check, and character select doubles as a stick check.
As for the topic at hand, I think I have a pretty relevant point of view. I have a game development degree from DeVry. The way the courses were structured essentially makes sure that each student, at some point, has to fulfill every production role of game development, from sound, to art, to documentation, and to (most of all) programming. Everybody I know who graduated and know their shit ended up getting a job doing the part of software development that resonated with them the most. I know producers, technical writers, technical artists, and programmers.
The point I’m trying to make, zferolie, is find your lane. You do this by making video games. A “Game Designer” is what I wanted to be before I learned how to make video games. If you washed out of Full Sail, chances are you haven’t actually made a game yet, and you need to get one (several) under your belt before you can honestly say what it is that you want to do.
I met Mike_Z last year at Evo. Told him I was a programmer, and asked for advice on how to get to where he’s at (which is developing the games he wants to develop as his main project as opposed to something done on the side, after coming home from the office job). He told me to quit my job, whip up a prototype with my newfound time and energy, then shop it around to publishers. The advice sounded ridiculous until I realized that quitting my job would essentially put me at where he was at when Pandemic closed down.
I haven’t quit my job yet, but it’s still something I consider, because the most fun I’ve ever had at any job was when I was working on a Flash game development contract with royalties as my sole compensation. The game tanked, and I made less than minimum wage when all was said and done, but I had the time of my life doing it. So I’d recommend taking Mike’s advice.
My friends never ban me from using my characters. They rather try to guilty trip me for dominating them on games they have no practice in and pull the “not fun” card. I’m notorious for my refusal to go easy. Best I can do is play characters I have no idea how to use
I can’t believe I missed FinestKO. From the sounds of it, it was some hype shit and I look forward to the archives. I’m just too damn busy playing the game! (By which I totally mean, scrubbing it out with silly Painwheel resets).
But srs face, I’m looking for some people who I can try out new stuff with (Because that Fortune looks so fiiiine), without that whole, lose in ranked and go down a tier risk. Any of you warriors in the BC Lower Mainland/Seattle region? Hit me up on PSN/XBLA, the name is the same as my forum handle.
Yeah. Most of the time though they are ok, if I keep going easy on them. But I have to make sure I go easy without making it obvious that I am.
And I almost never pick Male characters, so they don’t have to fear those 2.
My friends tend to play games like Brawl and the naruto games for the Wii, PS3, and Gamecube more then traditional fighters. I loved Brawl, and still do. In that game whenever I picked Yoshi they knew they were going to lose. That and peach. I pick mostly ZS Samus because I can go easy with her and they can’t notice.
In the naruto games… I wasn’t allowed to play as Anko a lot… god I love her, even if she is botton tier. For you who don’t know who Anko is…
Don’t even apologize bro. Every thursday some friends and I get together to mash out some SF4 (And recently SFxT, though we’re all remarkably tepid about it. I may be pushing a certain agenda that we change to another fighter about girls and skulls) and one week there were two guys who brought a wii and smash, and were playing an elaborate wager on who would get the master bedroom of the apartment they just moved into. It was some of the most intense looking smash (And by extension, fighting), I’d ever seen. It was the most excited some of those guys have ever gotten. While it lacks the customary depth of a game like SF, it’s nothing to be ashamed of!
Only 8 entrants? We need to get out and support this game if we’re going to be serious about it. We just had local for it with a 1$ entry fee and no one bothered to show up. Seriously, I see a bunch of Mike Z ass kissing and talk about how great the game is, but if no one is going to come out for it, it’ll all be a waste.
I feel like Smash Bros. is a really great concept and could have been amazing if the developer wasn’t so anti-competitive.
I’ve actually got a friend who is designing a game that is supposed to be a mix between Smash and Marvel in terms of gameplay. Still in the beginning stages but he’s got boxes bouncing off of boxes so it’s something I’m excited to see in action. He’s actually the guy that introduced me to Skullgirls, he has a Cerebella avatar and I asked him what the hell it was so he showed me.
