Skullgirls GD, Keepin' It Classy In Medici -- Now out in EU/AU!

Actually I’m completely 50.50 on esports. I see it as a great advance for the FG community,
But I hope we dont get to the point where tournament streams are pay-to-watch and advertisements come on between every set. :stuck_out_tongue: The concept is awesome but the reality may have some major drawbacks.

Hitbox controller observation for mike z:

In mvc3 and sfxt a super jump can be done on a hitbox controller as such:

df+u= forward super jump

In other words, I start with df then immediately add the up button so I’m pressing all three together by the time the jump happens. In skullgirls this yields a regular forward jump instead of a forward super jump. However these work instead:

D+uf= forward sj. or d+f+u= forward sj

I’m still ending with the same three button composite (d,f,u) but the order does matter. Why?

It’s already started, remember 8.95? (I hate that meme, but I can’t remember what stream it was. Canada Cup maybe?)

Really? Perhaps the combo’s I was seeing just were bad combo’s then. The lots of multiple hit’s seemed to bring the scaling up… but I guess with the right moves she can be a powerhouse, like she looks.

Got any good hatred Install specific combo’s yet? I would imagine that Level 3 being like X-factor for her in some sense or another.

I see. Thanks for that. I myself love the idea of e-sports, and I hope it really takes off! I will admit that some people in it are not helping the cause though, with the bad talk and stuff, but I think that will go away.

And yes, current games are like that, but I think in the future things may change. When you have most of the people that grew up in the video game age of the 90’s to know grown up and in their 30’s, then more people will understand the games and get a kick out of watching them on TV, without having to dumb down the games.

EDIT: You said you work on some aspect’s of E-sports. What do you mean by that?

Does anyone have any links to any videos of Cerebella using her purple alt? I know there’s a bazillion of them out there but haven’t been able to find any in my recent searching.

If anything is to succeed, you need money, and the best way to get money is through ads. It’s annoying, but it has to be done. If the e-sports world is going to grow, they will need lots of support from ad companies and such.

I think DoA5 is an example of a game that can still be technical, but has enough spectacle attacked to it to manage to be fun to watch. We’ll have to see though.

They haven’t really perfected the science of making a game presentable to an uneducated audience (i.e. one not made up of hardcore gamers), but it seems to be something more and more companies at looking into. DOTA2 has very interesting spectator camera angles and AI to support highlighting the most interesting parts of a game, making it very interested to watch with or without commentary, for example.

For a while I was working on a business plan for an organization to run tournaments and help streamline the flow of information to get people interested and excited about ESports (as well as host charity circuits on a yearly basis to improve the general view of gaming in the states) – had trouble getting the idea endorsed because its hard to get people onboard with you when everyone thinks you’re just trying to tap into the money pool (if I was out for money, I’d do better just focusing on my current career more – I average 2-3 promotions a year and I’m already going to retire a millionaire. ).

Put a lot of the business plan on the back burner, mulling over just investing in my friend’s soon-to-open gaming center and putting the finishing touches on my prototype for a timed account, console-based arcade cabinet to use in his shop.

Hatred Install hasn’t been explored quite that much, but here is her 10k combo.

ehSports is a joke though

The word in itself is stupid. You’re putting a disguise on playing video games competitively by referring to it as a sport, like you’re embarrassed or trying to trick someone.
The spectator culture bred from it is hilarious and is damaging the FGC. Slowly as the stream becomes a bigger focus, these viewers have power over the games played, not to mention the weird way they handle the star SC2 players. Stream monsters are complaining about Chris G’s GF efforts in KoF XIII and MK as if they paid or employ him. People are worried about sponsors not giving money because of that shit ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
The money coming in has breed a bunch of people playing games and forming communities around BAD games because there’s money/fame to be had playing them, a bunch of players happy to get top 8/16/32 whatever gets paid.

MLG themselves is trying to stage drama/beef between PL/CD jr and REO because it’s a great story to tell to bring in viewers. It’s changing from competition to entertainment. It’s less about being the best at the game, it’s about bringing the most attention.

I hate this shit, they are making a joke out of our hobby all while trying to profit from us. It’s all changing to be more theatrical, more entertaining, more about the non-players.

Found this one:

DoA5 does looked very cool, and I can see it being fun to watch for people not into fighters too much. Skullgirls, while fun to watch, it’s artstyle may turn off some people. I do think that Skullgirls and DoA5 are good steps in the right direction.

That sounds interesting. I guess some things they can do, not sure if the hardcores would like this though, is to have people before tournaments or during breaks talk about the fighting system, or explain what rushes, or talk about the terminology of Starcraft and such.

MLG is an example of one of the worst ways E-Sports works. Many other organizations have been doing it much longer and much better than they are. You can’t just take the shittiest, worst example of a business plan and write off the entire thing because of them. theIeSF, for example, does good work.

And it’s not about trying to trick anyone. Again, a lot of the issues you’re talking about are with people being obnoxious and shitty about the entire situation. And yeah, money ruins people – but the people that it ruins tend to be people who were already fucked up, but just didn’t have a reason to show it.

You have those folks in all facets of entertainment, and they’ll always be around, no matter how poor or otherwise you are.

EDIT: I’d like to reiterate, there are been problems with MLG since its inception, and MLG =/= ESports. There have been plenty of organizations and groups running e-sports events for longer than MLG has even been a concept, just because MLG does a shitty, ill-inspired job of handling it doesn’t mean that the concept in-and-of itself is some kind of ominous demon moniker that’s going to run competitive gaming into the ground. Especially since e-sports competitions have been around since the early 80’s.

Hell, the Electronic Sports World Cup first started two years before MLG even first appeared – and several events valued at nearly half a million occurred long before even that one.

I agree with you on some points. Especially the part about bad games.
People genuinely like flashy things. A game can be super flashy but have horrible content/balance. insert vanilla mvc3 joke

Ah. You should. I think it could make some very cool looking, and powerful combos.

That’s very nice. It’s corner only right? And why doesn’t it work on double? She’s too heavy and falls out of it or something?

What’s wrong with branching into new markets and getting new people to enjoy it? Every single sport has done this, why can’t the FGC?

If it’s about not being able to curse like sailors… that’s a stupid reason. I love YIPES to death, and his comments are hilarious, but sadly, society hates that talk. I wish people were fine with it, and we weren’t so PC, but we aren’t. Hopefully that will change one day.

And I don’t think you should think people are selling out by joining e-sports. These people are doing what they love to do, but unlike other sports, they cannot live off this. I’m not saying they should be paid like football people and stuff. In fact, I think most sports players should be payed HALF or less then what they are currently being paid, but with E-sports, these players can at least live off just gaming, and not have to be living poor.

That’s just my thoughts at least. Like I said before, I am not that well versed in the e-sports thing, but take what I say from an outsiders view.

Man I absolutely suck at learning combos. Sometimes i wish training mode would let you change the game speed so I could get the button combo down then speed it up to normal.

If there are other better corps than MLG sorry but I’m in the USA and MLG is the biggest “eSports” corp here and my first encounter with eSports and they’re weaseling their way in or being snakes trying to create a rift between communities. Poor MK community doesn’t see it at all.

I like that they picked up KoF XIII, that game deserves recognition but I don’t like the using a ton of money to force a scene approach because it’ll fall apart as soon as the money leaves. They announce the game 3 weeks before the event itself during FR, the majority of the KoF scene is West Coast, the event is in Ohio. They are idiots.

Some are for it, some are just going to ride it out and take as much as they can get until it’s over, some want to kill it.

I’m trying to convince myself to be more like group 2 but this shit is too stupid.

The changes are bad.

I don’t care if there are more spectators, except they have power now or at least their sense of entitlement is out of hand now.

I want more PLAYERS with the right mindset coming in.

Back on topic (i’ll PM you).

You know, I was playing through Filia’s story the other day and I have to admit.

As much as I love the animation quality of SG, I kind of wish it was 2.5D so we could get some awesome costumes. I want school girl Painwheel. :frowning:

Is there a regular scene in Montreal? Only thing I know of is MAT branch for EVO seeding -_

I’d love to actually go to one of those get-togethers & whoop some ass live for ONCE IN MY LIFE :<

Have you checked the match making thread?

I’m curious if there’s a community in Vancouver – my friend is determined to get me to move from Texas to Canada, lol. I’ve already told her I can’t go unless there’s a decent competitive scene. :stuck_out_tongue:

way to have your priorities straight :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone know the specifics of the trophies? I do what the videos say, like the Double use every character in a combo, but I don’t get it, nor Hatred Install return damage.
