Skullgirls GD - It's Showtime on PSN! XBLA 4-11!

Minette is a good name anyway I think.

My first thought goes to Minnow when I hear that.

I can sort of understand the call for the Vita version, but we don’t even know how that thing wil turn out right now. All I want out of Reverge besides the game is a good PC port with no dumb DRM and possibly Steamworks. It’s the safest version to make outside of HD consoles and there is an established userbase which the Vita lacks.

She looks thirteen. I hope that is not Nancy.

That’s Marie at the bottom left of the statue isn’t it?

Looks like Venus to me. The 3 ladies are in the windows of the cathedral stage in the same order too: Venus, Double and ???

I think the “???” lady is a character we know nothing about currently.

One… she looks way too young to be Parasoul’s and Umbrella’s mom, and looks nothing like either of them. Or Nancy’s concept art, to boot.

Ha-ha. “Minette” is french for “puss” lol =]
MF is all about puns, huh?
Anyways, I prefer Lunch, because of… Russian thing >_>

Oh my, how inappropriate.

Almost cruel, unless…

A brief search of lunch and Russian yielded abiet (Ah-BE-yet?). I’m missing something here.

??? O_o
It should be “Obed” and it means dinner, not lunch. Actually we don’t have lunch in Russia. Which I come to regret in the age of 18 >>
Because college is making me too freaking hungry too freaking fast. >

Hey guys, when critiquing media it’s possible to acknowledge both positive and problematic elements. It doesn’t have to be a black and white, “Skullgirls is irredeemable sexist trash”/“Skullgirls is a shining example of positive representations of women and anyone who has a problem with it are the real sexists” kind of issue.

It’s true that Skullgirls characters have much more well-developed personalities than the women in the vast majority of fighting games. And it is of course absolutely fine for women to be represented as sexy. This thing JakeWasHere quoted:

…is pretty much sexist slut-shaming as far as I’m concerned.

It becomes problematic, however, when sexualised character traits exist entirely to pander to male desires, rather than in service of the character itself. It’s really impossible to deny that Skullgirls is pandering at this point; a character was given a stripy panties palette entirely to appeal to the fetish of one of the guys on this forum, for fuck’s sake.

A far more interesting question than the rather open-and-shut case being discussed here is: Does this pandering, problematic as it may be, necessarily undermine the other, more positive elements of the characters’ representations? That is, do these characters ultimately exist to be objectified by the viewer, thus rendering any other complexities they may possess irrelevant, or are their pandering qualities merely an unfortunate aspect of an overall positive representation, such that we can say “well this one part is pretty bad, but all this stuff is pretty good”? But this is really a debate for a feminist forum rather than a place like this where a significant number of doofuses still think the complaints are from dudes scared of seeing some tits.

Boobies.

You’re saying it like it’s a bad thing trollface.jpg

A more interesting question, indeed – and better phrased than I could have managed at this ungodly hour – but still quite open-and-shut, depending on your perspective; I think there are many people who would answer with an immediate “YES, IT DOES.” and bring that entire line of questioning to a halt.

Oh well. For the sake of my own sanity I’ve decided to leave off giving a damn.

I’m just gonna say of course its pandering. Its marketed as a fighting game which happens to be a male dominated genre. Why wouldn’t you try your hardest to cater to the audience your aiming for? And for the sake of sounding ignorant I don’t honestly think any fully straight guy has a problem with the fan service the games has and neither should anybody else.

Honestly for the people that legitimately have a problem with this I would like to know why it offends you so much in the first place? I really don’t even know why I’m responding to this beaten down horse of a subject that we’ve had countless times with this game in the past. I’d honestly rather not get into another of these arguments again.

Yeah, for example this word “gay” first just meant carefree/happy/cheerful/colourful and then somehow became a synonym for homosexual males.
So if someone calls SG “gay”; since it’s neither bad/annoying, nor homosexual (bar incestuous Umbrella fondling her sisters tits, but thats pedo too so it won’t be discussed here) I’ll assume they mean that SG is “colourful”.
They’re right on that.

Sweet we talkin about sexism thats a new and fresh topic.

Maximilian exposed… so true… doing videos about MW3 just because millions of people play it…

People really are just that scared of the female body, that they’d cry sexism to try and make it go away. If you ask me, so long as nobody’s enjoying hotdogs and popsicles a little too much, there’s no real sexism. Of course, you could argue, but that’s just how I see it.

I am not alone in this cruel void-like world etc etc etc.

In other news, almost every fighting game ever made has some form of cheesecake in it, so (regardless of anyone’s opinion on women in Skullgirls,) if they’ve been on Shoryuken.com, then they’ll have played something with lots of fanservice. Moving on.

I’m looking forwards to this Machinima video, although at this point it could just consist of the release date over a black background and I’d be happy (I have fielded the ‘when is it coming out?’ question so many times at FGC events that by now I feel like Reverge’s EU Community manager.)
