hey sorry if this is a little off topic but i was wondering will there be way to get the SkullGirls soundtrack?
Personally I find the prospect of having 30-40 totally unique and awesome characters playable to be a completely awesome one.
That’s what I’ve seen in the characters so far, and I have faith the team could do it!
edit: There will be a soundtrack! As they said “you don’t get Michiru Yamane to do your music and not release a soundtrack”. :>
I’m not sure if there even is a fighting game with that many characters that are truly unique. But hey, if anybody can do it it’s Reverge.
They said they’d release it after the game comes out. Right now they have released 3 tracks that you can listen to on the site. The rest will come via OST after the game is out.
Planned doesnt mean that all 40+ will be in the game. And I remember a number like 32 or something. It’s not a bad thing. Just means they have alot of resources to choose from for character development.
I believe Mike merely said they had plans for 40 characters, but not they would necessarily make all of them playable or implement them into the game. Keep in mind that Reverge is a small indie developer and they simply don’t have the manpower nor the resources to do that.
Personally, I think Skullgirls will have at least 3 or 4 original DLC characters. And maybe a few EX versions of preexisting characters, since they seem so much easier to implement. Then, once they’re done with the DLC support, they can focus on making a sequel with a much bigger, decent sized character roster.
Try to keep your expectation low, or else you’ll only find disappointment. That’s something I had to learn the hard way…
it’d only be creepy if someone wasl ike “HOW COULD YOU FUCK MY FATHER BEFORE ME!”
It’s more like Alex created about 40 characters for whom Mike had “at least something” in the terms of playstyle. And besides there is always such thing as feature-cut when we’re talking about games developing… Not to mention money shortage and another RL shit.
I’m so glad we’re finding out who the character is followed shortly by their gameplay, the wait for gameplay after a character reveal was always more difficult than waiting for the nekst character.
Personally I don’t really care if the last character is Marie or Double so long as their gameplay is cool.
Also my attempt at making Panzerfaust in soul calibur V (why is there no tank accessory?).

if there were 30 or so characters what kind of character design would you guys like them to have?
Some will be DLC and a lot of them will be for sequels(probably DLC for those sequels too). I don’t see the problem here so long as the DLC prices are good.
Fat girl, Robot girl, Fish girl, Boxer girl, Ancient Egyptian looking girl, Alien girl, and a cave girl
so when does this air?
The 40 characters are Alex’s plans, like… up through Skullgirls 3, if we ever get that far.
Also, someone please go deal with Polish Tamales in the comments section. It is really impressive how he can write so much and be so ignorant of… pretty much everything?
He is also apparently the ultimate arbiter of all marketing… which is something he cares very deeply about for some reason.
Usually I like to address unfounded things like that, but the sheer volume of nonsense he’s posted is… daunting, to say the least.

- The more characters, the more difficult a game is to balance. While nobody forces me to pick lowtiers, it makes the game in general look worse (If the last 20 characters are never picked, one might as well not have them). It also increases the danger of having a broken char thrown into the mix.
- The more characters are built, the more difficult it becomes to differentiate the playstyles. In a roster of 40, it’s very very hard to not have any or multiple of a) ‘palette swaps’, b) bad character design (eg chars on the extreme end of the spectrum, with several 8-2/7-3 matchups and several 3-7/2-8, turning the pickphase into RPS), c) characters that don’t ‘play the game’ (eg SF4 Viper/Elf)
- The more characters, the more difficult it becomes to PLAY. If you run a team of 3, you essentialy have to learn all matchups for all three characters - and unlike other versus titles where you can kill people fairly easily, or “normal” games, where you have time to figure out what to do during the match, here you might run into a 3v1 scenario where you start to figure out what your point char should do against character X’ gimmick, and then your point char is dead, character X still at 80% HP and you have to start from scratch.
Having just one character is pretty boring, but having a roster of 40-50-100-whatever basically only works properly if either most of the cast is literally never used and one can just focus on the Top20 (in which case the big roster makes no sense), or half the cast plays like the other half (in which case the big roster makes no sense).
20-25 characters are plenty; should give everyone at least one that they really like to play (and they can decide to run it solo, then) - while not being a rollmass that makes picking this game up at a later stage impossible (for people that are playing and gradually adding 1-2 characters, this isn’t that much of a problem; for someone who starts out with SG a year after it’s release and has to learn 110 matchups before he is able to play properly, it is).
I kinda would like to see a sort of xvsf charlie and a counter-centric character, with cool aikido-esque counters, like Blue Mary / Geese and Kasumi’s stuff.
Samurai-influenced character (that is all about honor) - Woman, please (could be baiken-esque)
Half-demon character (or full for that matter) - Man/Woman (with a tail please !)
Knight/Gladiator/Roman influenced character, Woman
Some type of Hunter of sorts (trap based), Woman!
29 shotos and a grappler.
