Skullgirls Easter Eggs Thread: Giant Moai Head Inside

I think Ms.Fortune randomly says “scrape, scrape” during her rekkas. Reference to people saying “scrape” during a double snap in Marvel 2?

I haven’t seen anybody mention it, but Peacock’s bombs (George and Lenny) are named after the characters from Of Mice and Men, which is referenced in a lot of old cartoons. Sorry if this has been brought up before.

And it’s been apparently confirmed that their original names were Fat Man and Little Boy, except they decided to try to release this in Japan, so that was just completely not okay anymore.

Personally, I’m glad they decided on George and Lenny since it fits the old cartoon theme better. What’s better than referencing a reference? Also, didn’t Fallout 3 have the exact same problem with naming some of their guns?

Obvious, but just for completeness’s sake:
Cerebella’s j.d+MP is a reference to Tager’s falling elbow.
Filia has some Morrigan-lookalike moves (her j.HP and her drill both stick out in particular).

Actually Filia’s j.hp reminds me more of Ragnarok and Crona’s bloody needle attack from Soul Eater(Manga and Anime series if by some reason you havent heard of it) more than anything

when avery wakes peacock up in her story mode he says “hey, hey listen!”

and…?

Ms. Fortune’s color 4 is based off the original design for the character.
Color 9 is the obvious Morrigan(darkstalkers) reference.
I believe color 3 is supposed to be another Final Fantasy XI reference, based off a Mithra warrior.

Ms. Fortune references Total Recall in her level 3 super and Full House in Feral Edge.

A reference to this perhaps?

Peacock vs Valentine intro quote, Peacock says “Hellooooooooooo nurse!”

an obvious reference to Animaniacs:

It’s actually older than that and dates back to vaudeville theatre.

I think that Forty’s red palette is based on Reiko Hinomoto from Rumble Roses - all-female fighter by Konami.

I wonder if Valentine get Anesthesia’s one from the same game.

Also I think we should structurize this stuff. Right now we have:

  • Palettes
  • Move animations
  • Quotes (either text or voiceovers)
  • Stages
  • Cameos or tidbits going on in story mode’s artwork (like that cafe one)

Maybe thread opener would list them like this in his first post? That way thread will not get too cluttered too fast.

I’ve heard the Announcer say “Beat em’ up guys” or something similar as a reference to SF Zero/Alpha 3 announcer.

I kinda felt like Filia’s Hairball was a reference to Bad Mr. Frosty’s Snowball attack from Clay Fighter 2.

Peacock’s item drop: Barrel with a turkey in it is a Streets of Rage reference

Peacock’s time over seems to be a reference to Daffy Duck when his bill gets shot to the side of his head.

Peacock’s crHK seems like Jam Session

Valentine’s time over is a reference to MK (explode into bones!)

Filia’s win pose is a reference to Ryu’s win pose.

Final fight.

Streets of Rage >

I personally don’t know. It was word on streets.
